Came across this old snippet today, and wondered if Ioan still feels the same? I think he's getting closer to the role in terms of experience - he would be more a David Niven/Pierce Brosnan type to my mind, though, and I'm not sure if the film-makers want to go back to that.... Thirty-three year old Ioan said recently: “I would love to play Bond one day but I think I am 10 years too young . “Physically, I am not quite big enough. Of course, I could go to the gym or whatever.” “Maybe in seven years time when Daniel is done and tired of it and can retire a very rich man, then maybe I could step into his shoes. I think he’s been absolutely brilliant as James Bond. I thought he was superb.” http://fametastic.co.uk/archive/20070422/5733/ioan-gruffudd-wants-to-be-james-bond-after-daniel-craig/

Depends on the culture of the time I would think.

Good point. when DC's second outing didn't get as rave reviews, I did wonder where they'll go next.....

My first thought was also what Havoc said. It will depend on the times. Musicals were popular in the Depression, very few in more prosperous times, and then at the Oscars, Hugh Jackman mentions reviving Musicals. Audiences usually want to escape in movies, so they frequently want the opposite of what they have had or are living.

Don't know how many of you have read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, but I think Ioan could play a good Dawsey Adams. Here's the description of the character - "Dawsey is thin and wiry, and his face has a quiet, watchful look about it - until he smiles." "He has the sweetest smile I've ever seen." "like everyone here - he is too thin, though you can tell he was more substantial once. His hair is going grey, and he has deep-set brown eyes, so dark they look black. The lines around his eyes make him seem to be starting a smile even when he's not, but i don't think he's over forty." Doesn't it sound like Ioan could play him?

Whooo!Sure does, GG! I must look up that book!

Shipmate- 07-20-2009

Definitely DOES sound like him,GG. I may have to look up that book myself!

Gaffer'sGirl- 07-20-2009

It is a novel written in letters between a woman author, her publisher and group of survivors of the Guernsey Occupation in WWII. It's also a love story, but so much more. Once you get into it, the story is quite captivating. One letter about sending their children to England brought me to tears. The more I read the more I like Dawsey. The rights were bought and it is a bestseller, so hopefully it will become a movie. Ioan would be so good.

I'm on my way to reading it right now. . . . . . sounds very good!

HBO is currently shooting a pilot for George RR Martin's Game of Thrones, one of my favorite fantasy series ever. It has a huge following, and the producers have been listening to fans on the westeros.org site to guide them in casting. One of Stevie and my favorites, Sean Bean, has garnered one of the lead roles of Eddard Stark. They've snatched Jennifer Ehle for Catlyn Stark. The kids they've chosen all seem to be excellent choices for the Stark brood. A lot of other excellent actors have been cast. I can't see HBO not picking up this pilot. They know they have a large, built in audience from the web. They've had GRR Martin's help in writing duites. So, I believe there should be more casting too. It's mainly a UK cast, perfect for Ioan. Two roles would be great for him. There's the sneaky chancelor Little Finger, and the role of King Robert's brother Lord Renley. Unlike Renley's middle brother Stannis, Renley is the attractive popular son. He has the charisma of his brother Robert. Now Robert is supposed to be huge and fat, and Mark Addy fills one of those attributes, but he's not tall. So Ioan would probably fit just fine. All these are ensemble parts, so most of them aren't huge. But look what Rome and the Tutors did for some of the actors.

Sounds very interesting, Havoc! Ring his agent immediately!!!!! (and it's good to see Beany'ead in something like this too - I look forward to it!) :The General:

That does sound like an interesting project. I'm not familiar with the series, but it does help to get an approvaal when there is a ready made fan base. Of course, there is no way of telling what Ioan has or hasn't auditioned for. Sometimes casting directors have someone in mind and there is not chance for a different actor. But, maybe a guest role that's a change from his usual casting, would be nice.

It has a huge following, and the producers have been listening to fans on the westeros.org site to guide them in casting. From what I read about it (the story, the actors that they've cast so far, the writers, etc.), Game of Thrones sounds like a very promising series and I hope HBO will pick it. And it would actually be great if Ioan auditioned for a role in it, as even a small role can do wonders for an actor's career, if it is in a good production.

Havoc- 11-14-2009

Did the best I could. Mentioned it, yet again, on the Westeros forum ladies.

Shipmate- 11-16-2009

All this sounds like a great idea to me. It would be a fascinating thing, for sure, if it could ever all come to fruition, especially with Mr. I in there someplace.
