I'm going to get a "Banana Split Blast" in a little while,I think. My tongue is all set for it....(soft-serve ice cream with little chunks of banana and strawberries, whipped cream on top,and a drizzle of hot fudge to cap it off......ohh,forgot the cherry on top,too!.........) Mmmmm, would hit my spot today, for sure! We are having temps in the low 90's today. :breakdance Wheeeeeeeeee! :breakdance
Gaffer'sGirl- 07-18-2008
That does sound good to me. Is it a local shop or a Dairy Queen sort of thing. 90's - nope hasn't reached here yet. We are still overcast this morning.
No desire for anchovies?
Shipmate- 07-18-2008
Ummm,no thanks...I'll pass on the anchovies  ---------- "The Blast" comes from a fast-food chain around here called "Sonic".
Gaffer'sGirl- 07-18-2008
Aw! You don't know what you are missing. I'm one of the few and brave anchovy eaters.
We don't have Sonic here, maybe over in the Seattle area.
Shipmate- 07-18-2008
The anchovy,to me, falls in the same category as the humble sardine.......bleaaaaaaah!
Gaffer'sGirl- 07-18-2008
Oh! I grew up loving Sardine night in our house. Sardines, kippers, oysters, etc. on crackers with Miracle Whip. Usually it would suffice as dinner for that evening. It was ritual with my Dad spreading newspaper on the counter to prepare. Hoarded cans of fish, saltines or Ritz crackers, MW and mustard. The kids would get in line and he would prepare one for himself to test the waters and then, one for the first in line. Dad would eat one and then the next kid in line. I loved it and have to open a can about once a month. Weird, I know.

Sorry,Fair Lady, but think I would rather eat a pair of woolen socks first!

Deep dish, cheesy pizza and gyros with extra sauce. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shipmate- 07-21-2008
Whooooooooowheeeeeeeeeeee,Gnat! That does sound good! Let's do lunch, haven't had a gyro since I last was in Chicago,about-------20 years ago!
GNAT0629- 07-22-2008
Well Matie my friend - come on up!!!! We have several places that'll serve a good gyro! I did end up going to get one for dinner last night. YUM-O!!!!!

Matie, your banana split reminded me of a big family night out we had a few weeks ago. Scott was home on leave and he loves a local New York Italian restaurant called Frankie and Benny's. Scott had a huge knickerbocker glory, but it had banana pieces in it, which he hates. So he was sucking the ice cream off and slipping them into Sarah's dessert without her noticing. When Sarah found one she said "Ooooh look, banana!" and gobbled it up. We laughed so hard at the sheer mischief and delight on Scott's face -it took me back a few years!
Now I can't hear about bananas without seeing his expression. and now I'm craving ice cream.........
GNAT0629- 07-23-2008
Ok Stevie, explain to me exactly what a Knickerbocker Glory is please. It's mentioned in the first Harry Potter book and we dont' have them here.
My newest craving right now is rice pudding and fish n chips. I know, we can't get fish n chips here like in England, but I had some at Cheeseburger In Paradise on Saturday for lunch. So delish!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have a feeling if I ever make it to England that and scones are the only things I'd eat. I'm too scared to try some of the other things that I often hear about. :hide2: :hide

Also,Stevie, could you tell me what a "black and white" is,please? I had never heard of one before, and someone was being interviewed from the UK and mentioned it,so is it just chocolate and vanilla ice cream? ------------------- Say,that doesn't sound so bad right now either!
StevieT- 07-24-2008
A Knickerbocker Glory (funny, I always thought of it as an American desert!) is just a huge glass filled with ice cream, cream and fruit and topped with a cherry.
As for a 'black and white', Matie. Hmmmm....Newcastle is the place for black and white as they are the city's official colours (the football team's strip - their nickname is the Magpies) but I've never heard of it in relation to a desert.
I have heard a pint of Guiness referred to as a 'black and white,' if that helps?
GNAT0629- 07-24-2008
Thanks Stevie - sounds delicious to me!!! There's a place by my house that makes the biggest ice cream creations outside Disney World - delicious food and ice cream treats! Anyway, they have something close to what you've described. Might have to try it sometime.
Now I do have another question for you........again came up in the Harry Potter series: spotted dick. What the hell is it??? Cuz nasty thoughts run through my head when I read this so please clear it up for me????
