Shipmate- 10-21-2008

Hi, At the end of the film the other day, I,on purpose, counted to see where Ioan's name came in the ending credits--------his was name number 10.

Gaffer'sGirl- 10-21-2008

That sounds good considering the size of his role. It did seem like it was mentioned more often in the early publicity than say Jesse Bradford, Noah Wyle, Scott Glen, Toby Jones or some others who had bigger or the same size parts. Maybe it's just my perception.

Shipmate- 10-21-2008

No, I agree with you on that. ----------------------- Hey,when some of you see this film---notice something for me,will you? Notice how much food and drink (of all kinds) is consumed throughout the telling of the story. I've never noticed so much in a movie. Any comments?

Gaffer'sGirl- 10-21-2008

working lunches? Or at least that's what politicians can claim.

Shipmate- 10-21-2008

Nah,...yeah,...well maybe......but what I mean is it seems like somebody is feeding his/her face in so many of the scenes...I just got to noticing after a while, that's all...

Gaffer'sGirl- 10-21-2008

I'll watch for it. It may be the actor's or filmmaker's specific choice to make a point. Interesting observation.

StevieT- 10-22-2008

That's interesting, Matie! I've noticed the same thing about British soapland. Life seems to revolve around the cafe, the pub and the dining room table. I suppose in busy lives, sitting down to eat is the only time we get to chat......but I suspect working lunches have a lot to do with it, in W.

saw W last night
Hi all, Saw W last night. IG looked great with no evidence of the golf mishap. I found the movie a tragedy. I don't know if I could have watched it if I had a family member killed or injured in Iraq. Just the sections leading up the decision for war upset me alot. Not sure if it's ok to be political here but am looking forward to Nov. 4 and throwing the bums out. jackiee

Long time.... was thinking of "you" tonight
Hi! I was going to see "W" yesterday as it is at the local theatre. Maybe, I'll get there next week. I didn't know Ioan was even in it - even more reason to want to see it - learning Ioan is in it. Even if only a cameo.

StevieT- 10-24-2008

Hello, Jackiee and Sandra (lovely to see you both :hug) And political is okay - life is political! jackiee, I have to admit, that thought about Iraq had crossed my mind. The UK news at the moment is filled with the inquest of ten RAF airmen who's plane exploded above Iraq two years ago, when hit by small arms fire. The inquest hs concluded that the MoD were ultimately to blame, due to cutting corners on safety measures, despite repeated warnings. To me, however, Bush and Blair must bear some of the responsibility for putting them there in the first place. I look forward to 'W' as I suspect it will only confirm my opinion. So jackiee I agree (tho I'm not American) that the whole world may benefit from an Obama presidency. What happens in the US ultimately affects us all.

Hello all, I don't know whether or not this is appropriate here or in the other thread about W generally, but since I am talking about this in reference to Ioan, I thought I would put it here. I picked up a hard copy of the New Yorker (for those who don't know, this is a prestigious magazine with impressive literature and investigative journalism, and what is written in the New Yorker typically has a national news impact) yesterday to read some political coverage and there just happened to be a review of W in there. Well, the reviewer panned the film, claimed it wasn't Stone's best and that Brolin did his best with shallow material. I suppose I could talk more about this, but I wanted to get to the Ioan point.... I scanned through the review to look for the requisite mention of Ioan, and there was none. Nearly every other actor was mentioned except him. To say this is disappointing is an understatement. Not even worth a mention, in a Stone film that is destined to fade into obscurity. All I can say is this, I certainly hope Ioan is enjoying his southern California lifestyle, because that is what seems to be dominating his life these days. I will say no more. Best wishes to all, GinaP

I don't have much time right now, but I'll just say that there are so many factors that can effect the ebb and flow of an actor's career. Most have a time period where they are not getting the roles that they want or deserve, if they have the talent and I believe Ioan does. Other factors such as chance, choices made, what your agent can get you into, what roles are pre-cast, typecasting, and uncontrollable factors like a Strike can effect an Actor's career. Two to Three years ago, Ioan board posters who were disappointed with his choice of FF would state Ioan should go for some small roles in prestigious films or leads in smaller films or a TV series. Seems to me, that he is doing all those things. We'd all love to see him as a major star in major movies, but then fans would complain that they liked him better when he did quality British productions. And so it goes. In reality, Ioan probalby doesn't have a huge amount of control over what is offered, only some over what he chooses to do. But, finances can effect those choices. More thoughts, but I have to leave for work.

StevieT- 10-25-2008

Just a thought, but I wonder if it is Tony Blair who is insignificant to American thinkers,in a broader sense than Ioan's sixty seconds on screen. In the reports so far, Tony merely agrees to invade Iraq. In Britain, this earned him the unpopular image of Bush's lapdog (and when you consider the low opinion there is of Bush over here, this doesn't say much for him). I await the general British press reviews come November, tho I hold out no hope of greater interest in Ioan. It's a tiny part which portrays a foregone conclusion; I don't think it's a comment on his entire career that it's not reported on. He has new work coming out, more in production and yet more on the horizon. Okay he's not A list and probably never will be, but I certainly don't tink he should be written off just yet  I agree with Havoc that a return to some decent British drama would work well for him. Come on home, Welshboy - we'd love to see you!

Gaffer'sGirl- 10-25-2008

We'll tug-a-war over him, Stevie. or :duel . Actually, all I care is that he is in the right place at the right time to get parts in good quality productions that are seen around the world. Then, we can :occasion: and :excited: . Not too much to ask for.

Hi everyone, Please move if appropriate. This has nothing to do with Ioan, but with W. I tried to go to the other thread, but it was locked. There was a lovely looking woman who had a bit part in W, Anne Pressley, an Arkansas newscaster. Only 26 years old and someone assaulted her in her home. She died of her injuries today. I was very saddened, and thought this would be of interest to those who have seen the film. Here is the link: http://www.newser.com/story/40918/tvanchor-dies-days-after-attack.html GinaP
