W - New Project?
Fingers Crossed. Oliver Stone has found the actress to play Condoleezza Rice in his upcoming "W," with Thandie Newton in final negotiations to star as the National Security Advisor-turned-Secretary of State. Meanwhile, Ioan Gruffudd is in final talks to play former British prime minister Tony Blair. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/film/news/e3iac100babad132e4d1d296d591732e20a

Wow!! Thanks Annee! Now that would be a very different role for Welsh boy. I hope he accepts. Susie D.

It would be rather interesting to see Ioan as Tony Blair. He and Michael Sheen (Blair in The Queen) were in Wilde together and from what I've read remain friends. They are both from Wales and attended RADA. I hope we get to see Ioan's take on Blair.

Far too much hair for Blair.....hope they don't thin it out! But I like some Oliver Stone's work, particularly his 'anti-war' movies (who could fail to be moved by Platoon and Born on the Fourth of July?

Wow, it sounds like interesting job offers/roles are piling up for Ioan! I hope to see him in this movie.

But I like some Oliver Stone's work, particularly his 'anti-war' movies (who could fail to be moved by Platoon and Born on the Fourth of July? Those are good films but I dislike Mr. Stone on his involvement as a producer of movie "Savior" and how that movie portrayed the war in former Yugoslavia.

Oh, I haven't seen that one, Selma. Thanks for bringing it to my attention - I'm quite prepared to alter my opinion on the evidence......

According to the article below, it seems as if Ioan HAS the part. Cannot say whether it's a "bad choice of word" or if it's an update. http://www.cinematical.com/2008/04/06/more-w-casting-condi-rice-and-tony-blair/

StevieT- 04-06-2008

Yeah, well, we'll know soon enough! Fingers still crossed for you, Ioan

Like most filmmakers, I think Oliver Stone has had his brilliant moments and his not so good moments. I never got to see Savior, Selma, but I took exception with some of his JFK, but really liked Platoon and Wall Street. Stevie - I thought the same about Ioan's hair, maybe it's wig time. Also, Tony Blair looked better eight years ago, so maybe they let his hair stay as it is. Neither Ioan or Josh Brolin are near the age of the people they are portraying, so maybe he's going more impressionist than realistic.

Like most filmmakers, I think Oliver Stone has had his brilliant moments and his not so good moments. I never got to see Savior, Selma, but I took exception with some of his JFK, but really liked Platoon and Wall Street. Don't get me wrong, I loved Platoon where Tom Berenger played whom I absolutely loved in Someone to watch over me (SIGH)see the pics and if you all could, see the movie Someone to watch over me. But I especially loved Stone's Heaven and Earth (it is must see) but on subject of Savior which I must say didn't finished watching till the end I didn't appreciate how it represented the war in Bosnia. It is hard for someone to explain so that others understand how and why exactly war started and who was the aggressor and who's the victim if someone isn't familiar with the history. I am not saying that you or anyone else don't know what happened and why the war started, (I often wonder that question why myself sometime), but rather saying that I know that maybe there were some things that both sides had done that were wrong but it has always been clear who defended themselves from the aggressor.

It would be rather interesting to see Ioan as Tony Blair. He and Michael Sheen (Blair in The Queen) were in Wilde together and from what I've read remain friends. Ah yes! Michael Sheen did an excellent interpretation of Tony Blair in "The Queen". Interesting GG, I didn't know they knew each other. What the makeup people can do is pretty amazing these days. We might have trouble recognising him as Ioan in the end! Go for it Welshboy!! You deserve this opportunity! Susie D.

To me, this really sounds like an update. http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/art-and-architecture/news/ioan-gruffudd-to-play-blair-on-film-805394.html Also, another nice article http://lookingcloser.wordpress.com/2008/04/06/oliver-stones-w-gets-wilberforce-er-gruffudd/

but on subject of Savior which I must say didn't finished watching till the end I didn't appreciate how it represented the war in Bosnia. It is interesting what you say about Savior, Selma. Though I liked Platoon, Wall Street and JFK, I did not go see Savior, though it was produced by Oliver Stone. However, I read good reviews of it and heard friends who saw it saying it is bleak, brutal, hard to watch but realistic and a must-see. To me, this really sounds like an update. Thanks, Annee. So filming will start in a couple of weeks...

I like this wry take on the news from New York Entertainment.... http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2008/04/oliver_stone_finds.html
