You never know with directors, GG. Some of them can be that cruel, but I am with you. I hope it's a joke, and not rather harsh criticism.
Sara Sugarman isn't exactly a David O. Russell or James Cameron. Rachel Griffiths and Sara Sugarman are friends, so I'm sure it was a joke. Listening to the commentary it certainly doesn't sound like a harsh critism.
Oh, I didn't know they were friends (obviously). Sorry for the comment.

 I loved the movie....esp. the scene....when Annie Mary arrives at Hob and Nobs store...and she hits her head and they go......oohhhh...and when Ioan is telling she should join the group...it almost sounds swedish... :applaud: !!

Now, I can comment on this film too! Just saw it on my new DVD. I knew right away that it would be entertaining when the opening credits started, and Annie-Mary's father appear as he did!!!!! That took me by surprise so much that I :rotf: !! Does anyone else see any similarities between the Annie-Mary character and "Ugly Betty", or the children's story "The Ugly Duckling"? Or, is it just ME??!! ---------------- I also wonder what your reactions were when Bethan Bevin died???? I have to admit, I got a little teary. -------------Now, as for Mr. Gruffudd and Mr. Rhys.............They were an absolute HOOT together!!!! Campy and cute as all get-out,... without being too over-the-top, if that makes any sense :dunno ? ------------------- The "Get Your Gun" scene sells itself well, and I think the boys did an admirable job. Let me know what YOU think. SHOOTERS is on its way now in the mail.......

I love Annie-Mary. She is such a nice girl. Clumsy perhaps, but I like her. I am not sure how I feel about the death of Bethan Bevin. I am always still teary-eyed about Annie-Mary climbing on top of the van and starting to sing. First a bit hesitant and than with more force. And the look on Bethan's face. :sad The knowledge that Annie-Mary gave her a very special gift... :weeping. The funeral happens right after this moving scene, so I'm always still crying over the previous scene, but Annie-Mary just looks stunning as she sings at the funeral.

I just KNEW I'd hear from you, Syl! Yes, the ending was a tear-jerker alright......particularly when Annie-Mary got her gift from Bethan. Oh, poor things! ------------- Another happier scene, when Mr. Pugh and his ladyfriend exchange the 'sponge cake' comments at the church gathering! (I had some trouble with the accents, have to listen very carefully.) Funny writing and lines throughout!

And I love that song 'Dear heart and gentle people' they sing at the end, with the end credits. So cute how Ioan and Matthew are just dancing there and that kiss that Ioan gives Matthew, on the cheeks. So-o-o-o cute. :thud
Don't know if you have the same DVD as me, as there are several versions being sold and I don't know if they are all the same, but the extra's on this tape, such as the interviews with the actors are wonderfull. As well as " the making of.."
Gaffer'sGirl- 09-16-2007
Oh, now I'm going to have to double-check. I don't think my version as those extras. If it does, I can't believe I've never watched them. I think Very Annie Mary is a funny and touching movie. Ioan and Matthew as Hob and Nob are a pleasure to watch and listen to. The phew -phew during their song and yes Syl I love that end song. They all look like they are having great fun.
I really like Rachel Griffiths. The first time I saw her was in Muriel's Wedding - another of my favorite movies. Glad you finally got to see it Shipmate.
GG

I have a version without any "extras", just some biographies, a trailer, and that's pretty much it. That's okay though, I'm happy that I got to see the film.
Gaffer'sGirl- 09-16-2007
I checked mine out last night and that's what I've got too, Shipmate. Must be those other region viewers who got the fun stuff this time. :weeping Oh well, it got me watching again, at least through the "Annie Get Your Gun Scene".
Shipmate- 09-16-2007
Hey, I have the EMMYS show on right now, and guess who was just interviewed going in on the red carpet? Rachel Griffiths! She looked so pretty too. Kinda hope she wins! (Wonder if Matthew Rhys is there this evening?)
Gaffer'sGirl- 09-17-2007
I was at work and missed them, though I do see that Sally Field got an award. Did you ever see Matthew?
zoo.station- 09-17-2007
Just wanted to chime in and say, I am a big fan of Rachel Griffiths too. I think she is great and Shipmate you are right, she looked lovely at the Emmys.
Shipmate- 09-17-2007
Miss GG, No, never saw a ghost of Mattie anywhere.
Gaffer'sGirl- 09-18-2007
That's too bad, Shipmate. Though it makes me not feel so bad that I missed the Emmys.
Hey Kaitlyn - do you know if there is an actual place called Porpoise Spit? There and Sidney is where Muriel's Wedding with Toni Collette and Rachel Griffiths was supposed to take place.
Shipmate- 09-19-2007
There's not really a thread for the movie "SHOOTERS", but I saw it today, and I did not like it! Sorry, but I just would not spend the time it took to watch it again. Ioan was in only one scene, and he managed to pull off a credible sleazy, creepy, unkempt, half-crazed looking dude who knew all there is to know about firearms------Freddie Guns was his name-----but, that's just about it for me! ON THE "IOAN-OMETER" : a "3" !!!!!!! -------------------Oh! Matthew Rhys is in this "film" too, right at the beginning, but can't really say too much for his performance either. -------------THAT'S OKAY,Boy-o's, ya can't win 'em all...................
