US open 2009
Are there girls who are interested in tennis. Then they certainly follow the US open 2009 in Flushing Meadows in New York. And Belgium is doing very well. Our two girls Kim Clijsters and Yanina Wickmayer are playing the Semifinals tonight. Clijsters against the favourite of America Serena Williams (number 2 in the Ranking ) and Wickmayer against Wozniacki (number 8 in the Ranking ). Kim won the US open in 2005. They had to play yesterday evening, but it rained to much in New York. We are very proud to have two Belgian girls in the semifinals. I do not know if you know Kim Clijsters, who used to be number one of the world in 2005. In 2007 she stopped playing tennis but this year in March she came back. So now it is waiting until tonight to see if our girls will win but we think that Serena will be the great winner. This evening Yanina plays at 22 H Belgian time ( I think 16 H in New York) and Kim plays tonight at 2 H Belgian time ( 20 H in Ney York).

Hi Marthe, I only watch tennis occasionally but did catch some of the match yesterday. They are ALL such fine athletes. I wish everybody could win---they all train and practice soooo hard!

I sometimes watch. A lot of things went on in the match with Serena. Real dramatic. BTW my fav is Marat Safin, but he is retiring soon.

Unfortunately, you don't get to see much tennis here in Italy, unless you have cable tv, as general tv networks tend to allocate all the time slots devoted to sport to football (soccer) and car and motorbike racing, with only passing references to what is going on in other sports.

Well, our Kim Clijsters won the semifinal against Serena and last night she won the final against Wozniacki, so she won the US open 2009. What happened in the semifinals on Saturday night, was one of the most bizarre conclusions to a match in U.S. Open history. After Serena had been called for a foot fault on her second serve to go match point down, she cursed at the lineswoman who had made the call. The lineswoman then walked over tot the chair umpire and reported Serena for verbal abuse. Because she had already received an earlier warning for smashing a racket, Serena was handed an automatic point penalty for a second violation. That gave Clijsters a 6-4, 7-5 victory. Kim becomes the first unseeded women to win the U.S. Open and a hero to workings mothers across the globe. She is married to American basketball player Brian Lynck and their daughter Jada Ellie was born in Feburary 2008. Here are some pictures : she kisses the American ground with Brian and Jada with daughter Jada

I saw one of our morning shows with Ms. Clijsters on it this morning. Seems like a very nice, friendly and lovely lady. It really was a big shame that things went as they did for Serena Williams. It's just an example of how losing one's temper can cost a person something that they want very much. Once the words were out,...well,let's just say,it's impossible to un-ring a bell.
