Gaffer'sGirl- 10-18-2008

Last night, I read Edward and Jacob's conversation in the tent. It made me even more sympathetic to Edward. ***************************SPOILERS******************************************************** Though he was mature, he was rather young when he became a vampire with not much life behind him. The fact that he could read minds must have freaked him out. Yes, he would always know when a woman found him attractive, but he would also know when they thought him a freak or unhuman looking. Others might suspect, but Edward would know. He would also know what his early victims would be thinking just at the moment of their deaths. That in itself would probably make it more likely that he would become "vegetarian". It might also be a part of why he doesn't want to change Bella. Does he "know" the terror each goes through as they make the change? That really makes him a tragic figure.

Yesterday I had a call that the Twilight book was available. Today I went to the bookstore to get it. I also bought two new dictionaries Dutch-English and English-Dutch so I can improve more English. It is a thick book. So the Twilight time begins.

Gaffer'sGirl- 10-18-2008

Very cool, Marthe. It is a thick book, but the vocabulary is not too difficult compared to some. It should help you with your English. Your English is pretty good by the way.

marthe- 10-18-2008

Oh thank you so much Gaff that my English is good. I have learned it in school, I had six years English. But afterwards I did not have to use very much at work. We had English or English speaking customers from firms who worked in Belgium and rented a crane. But that dit not happen every month. And the other customers in a construction firm who need concrete, sand, bricks ... are from the area. But somehow I have always loved English, always listened to English music. My teachter was an English sister from South England and I loved her lessons. Oh Gaff, the Twilight book is in Dutch.

Marthe, Cetainly hope you'll enjoy these books. I've read all four of them now,and wish there were more! Lots of fun! Love, Ship

Hey Gaff - that conversation between Edward and Jacob is very enlightening. As for your perception of Edward and his ability, it's kind of the same for Jasper you realize? That was part of the reason he left Maria and found Alice. Why he went with her to find the Cullens and live an "alternative" lifestyle. It was the same for Jasper with his victims as was for Edward. However, keep in mind that Edward only chose those who were evil and monster-like in their own way. He didn't prey on the innocent the way Jasper did. Jasper was a true vampire when first created, unlike Edward who still had a conscience and had lived with Carlisle long enough and knew his thoughts on humans. But essentially, yes you are right........quite a different manner for a vampire to know and feel his victims' fears before killing them. Marthe - I'm so excited that you finally got your book!! Have fun reading and please don't hesitate to let us know what you think.

Gaffer'sGirl- 10-20-2008

I'm going to try finish Eclipse tonight. I have three days off. Yeah!

GNAT0629- 10-20-2008

Oh yay for you Gaff!!! I wish I had 3 days off! Of course, come December I'm going to have an infinite amount of time off I guess.  Anyway, I hope you're enjoying the books so far. Sounds like you are. I liked Eclipse a lot. Enjoy!

Gaffer'sGirl- 10-20-2008

Three days off is nice, but frequently I have to work seven or eight days in a row. Or in slow periods there are more days off, but a lot less money. I didn't get finished with Eclipse last night, but I'm near done.

marthe- 10-21-2008

Next week I have the whole week off because the firm I work is on short leave (the rest of the holidays). That will be perfect to read the Twilight book.

Gaffer'sGirl- 10-21-2008

I hope you enjoy the book and your week off, Marthe. Well, I finished Eclipse last night. ****************************SPOILER*************************************************************** I found it interesting where the title of the book came from. I'm liking Edward more and more. The question of whether or not Bella and Jacob would be soulmates, if Edward had never been turned into a forever alive Vampire is an interesting one. I think she liked Jacob early on, but it was Edward's leaving that brought her close to Jacob. Makes me think - if Edward didn't exist, there would be no heartache and black period, and no running to Jacob. I think she might have seen Jacob in a whole different light - more like a little brother. Jacob would also be very different, if he never had to become what he became. I'm on to Breaking Dawn tonight.

GNAT0629- 10-21-2008

Marthe - I'm glad you're going to have all that time to read Twilight. But I'm worried that you'll want to continue reading the rest of the books and you don't have them! Or do you??? Gaff - Yes the title of the book is very fitting. She's named them all very purposefully. In fact, the reason for New Moon was because that phase of the moon brings on the darkest part of night.......and obviously that was the darkest period in Bella's life. And yes things would/could have been very different if either Edward didn't come back for Bella or if he hadn't become a vampire at all. She might have chosen Jacob. But............keep reading my friend. Ms. Meyer knows what she's doing with her characters. Breaking Dawn is very good and well, MUCH gets explained. Enjoy! I'll be anxiously awaiting your reaction to the book. BTW.............it's one month and counting to Twilight the movie!!!!!

Gaffer'sGirl- 10-21-2008

I can't wait. I'm assuming that's one movie that will play here the first week it opens. If it doesn't the movie bookers here are crazy.

Shipmate- 10-21-2008

I believe that BREAKING DAWN is my favorite of the four books. There is so much needed exposition that has to be gotten through to get to the last book, that it finally all come together so nicely at the end. I'm NOT saying that I didn't like the other books; it's just that the last one ties everything all together for the reader so well. AND,we all like a nicely tied-together ending, don't we?-------------------------------------BTW, This series is PERFECT for Halloween light-fright-at -night reading!!!!!!!

Gaffer'sGirl- 10-21-2008

I can hardly wait to get through it. Of course it may take me some time as this is abusy time for me. My need to find aplace to move to has become more pressing. Oh well, no time is easy for that.
