Oregon, GG? A step closer to California (not sure if that's a good or bad thing  ) Salem is such an atmospheric name. What sort of video job is it? Creative or retail?

GNAT0629- 09-09-2008

It is rather lovely Gaff. I give you tons of credit because I could never do that myself. I'm not a city girl, but I'm definitely not a country living in the middle of nowhere girl either. I'm a complete suburbanite. I like the convenience of enough stores around me and enough people to make me feel like I'm still part of the human race. But I hate the city and people literally living on top of people and having no open spaces anywhere. It's also too damn expensive to live in the city of Chicago. Especially now. I've bought stuff from Amazon and I've never had a problem. They're pretty good with prices too.

Gaffer'sGirl- 09-09-2008

Oh, I was most definitely a city girl before moving here. My family still laughs at how much I've learned about the different types of chickens, how to feed bees and how I've adapted to not having movie theaters around every corner. Salem is a fairly large city and Portland is an hour away. It would shorten treks to California by about 5-6 hours, but I'd be farther from my parents. That possibility still has many hoops to hop through to get there. So, staying here is more likely. From the sounds of it, the job itself could be so-so. It's mostly traveling the state videotaping roads during the summer and in the office editing and analyzing in the winter. If I could take Gaffer around with me, it might be OK. In the position I'm in right now, I enjoy the people I work with and there is little to no pressure. Kind of nice for writing.

Hmm, the video job sounds interesting (if exhausting!) GG. But if it leaves no time for writing, that's a downside. Catch 22........ :???:

Gaffer'sGirl- 09-11-2008

Stevie, I do fear losing the time for writing. It's possible that the job would entail writing, shooting and editing which is very draining and can also use the creative juices on corporate type video. Having done that route before, I wonder if I'd be happy - working for the MAN  so to speak. In other words, not pursuing my own interests in hopes of a better retirement. I do have a 401K where I'm at currently. Gnat - I got the book and started reading. By the way, they filmed much of the movie in Portland Oregon area. I heard they were going to shoot a few scenes in Port Angeles for the Bella Italia scene, but don't know if they ever did. Here's a picture of the boardwalk mentioned in Twilight with PA in the background. The clouds obscure the mountains which are quite evident much of the time.

Ooh happy reading Gaff!!!! Definitely PM me with any thoughts.......I won't give anything away. Where did you get to anyway??? Mind you, it kinda starts slowly in the first couple chapters. But it's totally worth it eventually.

Gaffer'sGirl- 09-11-2008

Appropriately enough, I found it in the Wal-Mart in Port Angeles. I've already started reading and it does seem to be a quick read and yes, I like it so far.

GNAT0629- 09-12-2008

Ah Port Angeles. Well enjoy and like I said, please PM me when you've finished and tell me your thoughts.

Gaffer'sGirl- 09-12-2008

Will do, I'm liking it so far.

Shipmate- 09-12-2008

You ladies may be drawing me in with your talk, kind of like a vampire beguiling a victim................sounds interesting.............

Gaffer'sGirl- 09-13-2008

Hope you join us, Ship. It's kind of interesting so far. One of the ladies from work is going to do some marketing at a Car show in Forks tomorrow. There is some talk that Stephanie Meyers was going to be there. It may not happen, but I'll let you know if I read about it in the newspaper.

Gaffer'sGirl- 09-16-2008

I'm through Chapter 8 now, Gnat. Kind of doing a chapter a night while I'm working. I'm liking it.

GNAT0629- 09-16-2008

Please feel free to join us Matie!! I think you'd like this series. It's very unique! It's been a few days now Gaff, where you at??? Are you almost done with it??? See, I have the luxury of reading on the train. I have about 3 hours of train rides everyday so I was able to move through this series fairly quickly. I read the whole series in one week. I think it took me 2 or 2 1/2 days to read Twilight.

Gaffer'sGirl- 09-16-2008

I used to read through the night. Can't do that anymore. ;angry:

GNAT0629- 09-17-2008

That's what my mom with these books. And my one girlfriend did it with the last book that came out back in August. Actually I did it too. I started reading this series the week before Labor Day weekend. So I had a lot of time to read. I started reading the last book, Breaking Dawn, that Sunday night and was up until 2:00 am. I ended up staying home that Monday (Labor Day) and just reading the entire book. I hadn't done that since the 7th Harry Potter book last summer. But it is hard when you have to go to work. I remember being annoyed that my reading was being interrupted by this pesky job thing. I would get to a part in the book while on the train and have to put it down cuz we were pulling into the station. So frustrating!!!!
