Sorry Annee, I tried to read it, but really couldn't get the writer's point. For me, she tried too hard to be "cool" that I lost the message. I liked the style, even though it's a bit too "cool" at times. :(

I liked the style, even though it's a bit too "cool" at times. :( I'm with GG on this. I really couldn't get the point the writer is trying to make. Yes, it is as if her message got lost in he effort to be cool.

StevieT- 06-22-2008

Yep! What is she saying, exactly? Seems to me she likes the sound of her own dictionary too much  Still want to see this film, though.

Frances- 06-22-2008

Seems to me she likes the sound of her own dictionary too much  BTW, did anyone else notice that there are a few spelling mistakes in the article? Actually, in her effort to sound cool, its author reminded me of those people trying too hard to be funny with the result that they don't sound cool or funny at all, but rather just confusing and contrived. However, I still want to see The TV Set, too.

Gaffer'sGirl- 06-22-2008

I did notice a few of those mistakes, Frances. Because of the website title, I wasn't sure if the writer was a native English speaker or not. If not, there might be some incidental and accidental syntax and spelling errors if she doesn't have anyone proof read her column. But as Stevie mentioned, the way she made up her own dictionary of words made it even harder to follow. There are some benefits to clarity, before cool style, aren't there?

There are some benefits to clarity, before cool style, aren't there? Definitely, especially if it not literature that you are writing.

All I'm gonna say is----------HUH?-------------WHAT?-------------

Gaffer'sGirl- 06-23-2008

Makes me think that I should have had more confidence in my own abilities when it comes to film criticism.

Shipmate- 06-23-2008

Ditto.Ain't it the truth! :rotf:

Admin Edit. Annee, I've moved your post to the Blog section, as it wasn't news or a review on the TV SET. Feel free to repost it properly there. :The General:

I did not understand this review completely. :/ Can Anyone Help Me? Thanks. :) http://cpkted.wordpress.com/2008/08/25/flicks-opera-resources-circumbendibus-found-wanting-15/

StevieT- 08-25-2008

I'll help you - it's either pretentious drivel from a poster who's too far up their own backside OR it's a translation from a different mother tongue that doesn't translate well. :dunno

Frances- 08-25-2008

it's either pretentious drivel from a poster who's too far up their own backside OR it's a translation from a different mother tongue that doesn't translate well. :dunno Or perhaps it is both, from what I could see from the entries in the blog. :dunno

StevieT- 08-25-2008

< Or perhaps it is both, from what I could see from the entries in the blog. :dunno A perfectly plausible third option, frances! :happy

Holy Cow,Annee, ---sorry,I'm at a loss for words on that one (slaps palm of hand to forehead)! I'd be forever trying to figure that one out,I'm afraid.
