Like Sylviane, I think he refused at first, but maybe something was cut inbetween because the end certainly makes one think he has plans for the future. I wouldn't pick her for Max on any permanent basis though. I've been practicing my coin-flipping, toothpick sucking, egg timering, but the steely eyed stare is freaking some people out. Wish I had one of those duster coats or rather wish I had a good looking man in one of those. :whistle Nothing else of course. :naughty Got to get my copy of Max back from my brother.

Sylviane- 11-29-2007

Yes, he was interested in her, certainly by the end. I just think that that particular line: "Are we going to have sex, 'cos i'm gasping for a fag?" would make him back away. Too strong approach and I don't think Max would like it. I don't think they have slept together before the end of the film. I think he had plans for the future though

As I said, I'll have to watch the film again, or again and again, but right now,....no, I don't think so,....Max is a pretty concentrated guy. Solve-the-case-first, then,......playtime!-----------------------Oh! I got a kick out of the scene at the end where Max is getting out of the truck (which is a pretty cool one, I might add!), and a shot of his cowboy-booted foot hitting the ground made me grin. . . . . . . "Hoss coming into town for justice!!!!!.........Love it!! (Bonanza was a favorite of mine as a kid. Never missed it, then straight to bed---for school Monday morning!)

Well, there was nothing on TV tonight, so I pulled out Happy Now. I don't recall running through the credits the last time, but tonight I was distracted with something and let them run. Now the question - Has anyone else listened to that "water gargling" at the end of the credits. Is that the filmmaker's company trademark or do you think it was supposed to be Max brushing his teeth over and over perfectly so his father will come home?

StevieT- 01-08-2008

That's a brilliant thought, GG! You could be right - just goes to show, it doesn't matter how many times you watch a film, there's always something new to discover.

Gaffer'sGirl- 01-08-2008

At first I just thought it was a weird thing at the end. Then I thought the sound of the voice after "the gargle" sounded like Ioan which is what made me think of it. Not sure it is Ioan. What do others think?

Frances- 01-08-2008

I've never noticed a "water gargling" sound at the end of the credits. To be honest, I'm not sure I've ever let them run to their end. I'll check this out though.

I no longer have the DVD so I can't check but I remember this being discussed before and someone said it was meant to be Max gargling the Bonanza theme. No idea if this is true or not, I never listened to it.

Gaffer'sGirl- 01-10-2008

Now I'll definitely have to listen to it again. I didn't notice that it was Bonanza, but that would make sense.

StevieT- 01-10-2008

I was just researching this very issue, when Sarah asked what i was doing. Do you have any idea how ridiculous this sentence sounds out loud.... "I'm listening for someone gargling the theme from Bonanza!" Okay, I just got one step closer to my children having me committed!

Sylviane- 01-10-2008

:rotf: (Only now, Stevie?!)

Gaffer'sGirl- 01-10-2008

:happy :happy :happy :happy Thank goodness I don't have to worry about anyone walking in on me when I wear out a section of my media otherwise I'd be joining you, Stevie. There have to be some benefits to living alone.

Shipmate- 01-12-2008

How funny!!! I'll have to take another look for sure now. :rotf:

Shipmate- 01-24-2008

I've just now (actually, it was yesterday) re-listened to the "gargling" at the end of the film. Sorry, girls, but for the life of me I can't make a bit of sense of it ----- BUT, it IS funny!!!!!!!  And, I'm glad I'm by myself when I do these things as well ------- can straight-jacket time be very far away?? :hide2:

This is a very old (though very nice to look back on) article about Happy Now from 2001. A couple of lovely pics, too! The main feature, Happy Now?, stars the city's own movie idol, Ioan Gruffudd, and is set in a remote Welsh village. He plays Sergeant Max Bracchi, who uncovers the truth behind the accidental death of a local girl 14 years earlier. It has elements of a western, comedy films, thrillers and a fly-on-the-wall documentary. The film's director, Phillipa Collie-Cousins, said: "Festivals are vital for a film like this as they breathe life into it and give it a platform to be released from. "I am particularly keen for the film to do well at Cardiff and, if it does, I think we know we have something that other people will want to see." But Gruffudd fans hoping to catch a glimpse of him at the screening are likely to be disappointed - the actor is busy filming in London. Ah, nothing much changes, does it? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/1668998.stm
