Re: Am glad to hear the news!
This movie was also linked to Colin Firth awhile back. Wonder if he pulled out? It would be hard to know for sure unless it is announced, but the most frequent reasons for an actor dropping out are 1) schedule change for shooting and the actor has another commitment. 2) Change of director 3) A production is set up, appear ready to go, and then for various reasons is put into turn-around and picked up by another studio or production company - frequently cast will be dropped or drop out. 4) The Producers decide to fire an actor because they are unhappy with a performance and re-cast - though I don't think this is likely in the case of Colin Firth. There could be others, but I think one of these is most likely.

I heard that they were planning to make this book into a film about 2 years ago I'm so glad Ioan's involved in the project.

Frances- 10-08-2007

Meanwhile, I noticed the this project has been added to Ioan filmography on IMDb.

Shipmate- 10-09-2007

I am currently about half-way through the book, "The Little White Horse", which was easy to get at my local public library, and I'd really like to hear what some of you might think of it???? I'll probably be finished with it in a few more sittings. It's not a SHORT childrens' tale.

Gaffer'sGirl- 10-10-2007

Oh Shipmate, I'd love to hear what character you think Ioan might play.

Frances- 10-10-2007

I look forward to your comments about the book, Shipmate. I've looked for it at my local library, without luck... it is not available from there...

Shipmate- 10-10-2007

Hi Frances, I notice that Amazon.com had it, but didn't pay as much attention as I should to its price. ~~~~~~~~~ Miss GG, I've got some personal ideas about that (probably wrong ones), and would like to share them with you.

Frances- 10-10-2007

Actually, I've looked it up on Amazon.com and they sell it new at around 6 US$. I'm not sure I want to buy it though; perhaps I'll fill in a purchase proposal form at my local library and see if they can find it.

Shipmate- 10-10-2007

Sounds like a good plan to me!

Queen9ers- 10-11-2007

So glad we have something new to look forward to from Ioan. Being a childrens book it is something the whole family can enjoy. Like many, I do like costume/period movies. Especially with Ioan in them. :applaud:

Shipmate- 10-11-2007

It will definitely be a period piece,Queen9ers, and I'm already looking forward to seeing what will be done with it. Should be good family-fare, if they stick to the basic story,of course.

Fantasy film by Gabor Csupo shoots in Hungary (update) 08 October 2007 By Laszlo Kriston The Secret of Moonacre, a feature by former animation maven and three-time Emmy Award winner Gabor Csupo, is shooting entirely in Hungary, leaving most of its $27 million (€19 million) budget in the country. Principal photography began Sept. 3 and continues for 50 shooting days. Budapest-based Eurofilm Studio (http://www.kftv.com/company-10475.html) is providing production services. Eurofilm's Gabor Varadi is serving as both line producer and second unit director. Already pre-sold in the UK, France, Benelux, Korea and Latin-America, worldwide sales are being handled by Velvet Octopus Sales (www.velvetoctopus.com). Production funding was secured by Spice Factory and Velvet Octopus through Cayman Islands-based Aramid Entertainment (www.aramidfund.com) and the UK Film Council's Premiere Fund (www.ukfilmcouncil.org.uk), which invested Ł1.23 million (euro 1.78 million). The Secret of Moonacre, formerly titled The Moon Princess, is produced by Australia's Forgan-Smith Entertainment, which originated the project (www.forgan-smith.com), and Spice Factory UK Limited (www.spicefactory.co.uk), with partners Eurofilm Studio in Hungary and Metropolitan in France. Locations include the Hungarian State Opera House, the Pilis forests, and a medieval castle in Csesznek. Several interior scenes are being shot on local sound stages. Only special effects will be handled outside of Hungary, most likely in England. Set in the 1840s, the film is based on Elizabeth Goudge's 1946 children's book "The Little White Horse”-a favorite children’s book of Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling—the story of a 13-year-old orphan's adventure in a magical world from which she must banish an ancient curse. It marks the second fantasy feature for Csupo whose directorial debut earlier this year, The Bridge to Terrabithia, found gold for Walden Media (www.walden.com) and Disney (disney.go.com/disneypictures/index.html), earning $108 million worldwide. The film stars Dakota Blue Richards, Ioan Gruffudd, Natascha McElhone and Tim Curry of Rocky Horror Picture Show fame. The filmmakers are aiming for a mid-2008 release date. Hungarian emigrée Csupo left his homeland in 1976 and with his former wife Arlene Klasky established one of Hollywood's most prolific animation studios, KlaskyCsupo (www.klaskycsupo.com). They created The Wild Thornberrys and Rugrats, and produced The Simpsons series. http://www.filmneweurope.com/content/view/327/1/

Quite interesting to read about all the elements and countries involved in this production. Shooting in Hungary most likely increases the amount of value they can get for the budget. Still no mention of the role Ioan is playing. Hmmm! I did read somewhere that Natascha McElhone is playing several roles. I wonder if that's the same in Ioan's case. That would sure be fun. Thanks Annee.

Shipmate- 10-12-2007

Annee, you're our girl!!! Thanks for the info.........most interesting. Hmmmm, think I'm figuring out pretty much about the characters, and we just might be seeing LOTS of Ioan in this one,if I'm reading the book correctly, that is!!!!!!!! Cool! Am I crazy?!! Does this movie come to the US? Are those distributors affiliated with those in this country? I hope that the movie will make it to American theaters! I'll be disappointed if it doesn't!

Gaffer'sGirl- 10-12-2007

I certainly hope it gets the distributed like Bridge to Terabitha since it is the same director. That's not usualy the determining factor, but since it's a similar genre, one can hope. Bridge to Terabithia actually played in this area.
