The Roles That Got Away.....
I found this snippet from Empire (circa 2000)about a role Ioan apparently never played and it set me thinking about other ones that may have been lined up, but got away.... Ioan Gruffudd, the Welsh star of Hornblower, is set to play former Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli in a new biopic. Gruffudd will portray the politician at age 28 in the film which has the working title of Dizzy. It will focus on Disraeli's affair with an older woman. The producers are also hoping to secure the services of Anthony Sher, who previously played Disraeli in Mrs. Brown, to star as his older incarnation. http://www.empireonline.com/News/story.asp?nid=14186

That would have been a very interesting movie. There was also the article a few years ago - British writer and Ioan was taking him around L.A. and it was mentioned that he turned down a three picture deal. We were speculating as to what the movie would have been. So many more movies are possibilities than actually happen that actors probably learn not to announce them until funding is in place. Perhaps that is why The Kid was listed as "rumored" for so long? Even after pictures were taken of Ioan and Nick Moran back at New Year's. If I recall, there was also the possibility of Ioan and Matthew doing a movie about paratroopers or something like that in WWII. Anybody else recall that one?

I would have loved it if that biopic of Disraeli had been made. Makes you wonder how many films get to the planning stage without ever being made though.

Yes,GG,I have a little clipping somewhere that talks about the paratrooper film you mention. That would have been interesting to have seen too. The Disraeli would have been a challenging and fascinating role for him,I'm sure.

I would have loved to see Ioan and Mattie in a paratroop drama (i wonder if Ioan would have actually had to jump out of a plane at some point.....that might have caused him some sleepless nights! ) Disraeli would have been an excellent choice too - he was apparently a bit of a snappy dresser himself!

Oh yes! And sought after by the ladies too,if I recall correctly!
