My son Scott was a toddler he was plagued with 'glue ear' and intermittent deafness, so was late talking. He barely had a few words at two, tho ws bright as a button at making himself understood. Even at that age he was mad about vehicles of any nature and loved his little pedal car that was a mini tow truck - he would zoom around the house in it. One day at this age I found him in the kitchen, squatting by his tow-truck and lifting and dropping the crane. Then he sighed, sat back on his heels and, chin in hand, clearly said "I've f****d it!" I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, especially as the Health Visitor was with me!

:shock That must have taken some explaining, Stevie. Since I have no children I'll have to base my anecdotes on my immediate family. I'll start with me. When I was a child, my Mom used to read poems and stories to us, which I think is very extremely important for a child's development. However. . .my Mother chose to read one poem called After The Bath and another with an illustration of a young child dancing buff in the snow. Well, when I was about three, I put the two together in my mind and after a bath, I decided to re-inact them by taking a little run down our alley in the snow. Thank goodness my parents caught me before I made it to the road, but therin began my life as an exhibitionist. ,

This one goes back to 1997,when my nephew had just turned four. My sister-in-law had called my mom,and she was relating to her events of the day. It seems that it had been a pretty tough day for mother and child-------the kind where "child" keeps getting into one confrontation after another all day long with "Mama"........you knowwhatImean..............siiiigggghhhhhhhhh!.................Anyway,yet one more time,"child" messed up again---only THIS time, after he was corrected, spun around and very loudly called his mom ----- "BIG POOPHEAD!" ----------------------------Wellllllll,needless to say, this brought on immediate retributional action from Ma-maah,and there was quick, punitive sentencing to the "NAUGHTY CHAIR",with his face to the corner. My sister-in-law said she didn't know whether to spank him or fall down laughing!!! He had said the offensive remark in red-faced anger, and with temper,soooooooo..............

There are times it is hard to keep from snickering at things little kids do. My Dad was pretty strict when we older kids were toddlers, etc., so it was interesting to watch him with my youngest sister. By the eighth child, I guess you learn to relax a little. When my sister was around one, not quite walking yet, she had this chair with little wheels that she propelled herself around with. One evening, she kept pushing herself over to the TV and turning it off. My Dad would get up and turn it back on as we didn't have a remote control. Molly would push it off again. He said "NO, Molly". The next time, he used his firm voice, the one we knew meant he was serious. Sure enough, she bounced her way back over and turned it off again. After the fourth time, Dad tapped her hand and said "No". Then, she smacked him on the hand and said "No". My Dad just busted up laughing. I think he picked her up and put her on his lap after that.

Silvia,I'm so very happy to hear you talking that way about your dear little ones. And,you are 100% right;you'll NEVER have a blessing any sweeter or greater than the love of your children and loving husband.

Silvia- 09-02-2009

Indeed!!! My happiest moments are the ones with my family. There´s a song here in Argentina dedicated to the families. I´ll try to find it and post it...... and translate off course!!!

Shipmate- 09-02-2009

I'd love to "hear" it sometime.

Silvia- 09-02-2009

I´ll try to find the lyrics now!!!

Silvia- 09-02-2009

Basically the idea is: 2 sibilings who invite a stranger to have diner with their family, and explain to this person the traditions of their household SPANISH Ella:Hoy estamos festejando Entra ya no tengas miedo, No te asustes que no muerden Somos pocos pero buenos. ENGLISH Her: Today we are celebrating Come on in, don´t be afraid Don´t be scared, they won´t bite you We´re a few, but we are good. Him: Come on in and have a drink, there´s space for another chair here, let me introduce you, to my people , my family. Both: As you can see, everybody talks at the same time, and afterwards, they´re fighting for a month, but when things go wrong, by your side they always are. Chorus: I want to make a toast to my simple people, to love, I toast to family Her: If someone hits you with a cork, or a kid steps on your foot, deep down it´s just, a proof of their love for you. Him: You´ll get used to it, it´s just extrovert people, when they yell don´t be scared, that means the food is ready Both: As you can see, they eat it all and later, they´re suffering with the diet again but they never say no, if you offer them more food Chorus: I want to make a toast to my simple people, to love, I toast to family Her: Now the dancing will begin, put everything out of the way and get on the dance floor, and my auntie will say again, that her baby girl is an artist. Him: See, I told you, at the end we had a great time, like my grandpa always says, deep down we love each other. Both: As you can see this will go on until three, and tomorrow we´ll have left overs for lunch, I sing this song to all of them with my heart. Chorus: I want to make a toast to my simple people, to love, I toast to family I want to make a toast to my simple people, to love, I toast to family Music and lyrics by Joaquin and Lucia Galan

 Iris has this thing for leaving her coat on the floor rather than a coathanger. And I keep telling her: "Honey, the floor is NOT a coathanger. Hang up it up in the right place..." And sure enough, one day I came home, flung my coat on the chair and 3 seconds later I hear Iris's voice: "Mom! The chair is NOT a coathanger......"
