THE KING OF POP - MICHAEL JACKSON PASSES
I could not believe this when I heard it. I was going to the store and I looked at hubby and he said "Do you think it is true"? I told him I don't know - then after we came out of the store around 4:30PM CST. They were saying he was gone and playing all his songs and having people call in and give their favorite memories of him. this is a tragic loss to the world and to music. Even though he had his "hard times" no one can take away his genius as far as music. I grew up with his music starting with the Jackson 5. Sad day for the World. I would compare this to Princess Diana's death. Both too young and too tragic.

I also heard someone talking about this when I was at the store and heard confirmation on the radio. It is quite sad. I remember so much the young boy with a great voice and wonderful stage presence. His early songs with the Jackson 5 remind me of the Jr. High School bus. Yes, it is a tragic loss at the age he was.

What a terrible day yesterday was. First Farah Fawcett, icon of the 70s and then Michael Jackson, icon of the 80. I was a fan of Charlie's Angels and admired Farah for how pretty she looked, I was in my teens when Michael Jackson got his icon-status with Bad and Thriller and Off the Wall. It reminded me of my life as a teenager and if feels like I lost a bit of my history. :crying

Michael Jackson's songs were part of the soundtrack of my life as a teenager, so - like Sylviane - I felt like I had lost a bit of my history when I heard about his untimely passing.

Actually, Michael was also huge in the 70's with THe Jackson Five. Not quite to the Thriller status, but his career still would have been notable just for what he did with his brothers. He was an adorable boy.

Though he may have been considered odd, strange, and eccentric by many from time to time;it would be hard to deny that the man did not have great talent and was a gifted songwriter, dancer and showman. I vividly remember the first time I saw the "Thriller" video, and thinking at the time-----Wow,this is gonna be a BIG deal!

Very sad day indeed, like Syl said with Farah and Michael. And some hoaxes as well that I heard. Anyways they will be greatly missed. Condolences to their family and friends and fans too. I know everyone today are reminiscence about their fav songs by Michael so I would like to hear your opinion. Mine were "Heal the world" , "Remember the time" and so many others.

Frances- 06-26-2009

It is hard to choose a couple of songs from the dozens Michael has written and sung, but I'd say my faves are "I just can't stop loving you," "Dirty Diana" and "Billie Jean."

Sylviane- 06-26-2009

"Ben" can still put a tear in my eyes. And I love "Thriller".

Gerdie- 06-26-2009

I guess my favorie is Thriller and I saw the video for Earth Song and fell in love with it. And of course, We Are the World - just because of all the stars that got together after the Music Awards and put together a very moving, touching song that started making us look at the world we live in. I also want to send my condolences to Michael and Farrah's families and friends. I was sad to hear about Farrah too. I loved her role in "The Burning Bed". They have been playing Michael's videos on all the MTV/VH1 channels and I think they are doing it all weekend. Also, they said that the BET Awards are this weekend and they are going to do a special tribute to Michael also. It just doesn't seem right that he is gone - it still has not sunk in - we talked about it at work today about how we all grew up with his music. Even the "kids" today (2 years and up) recognize Michael Jackson and his music. It is just uncanny how he has bridged the ages. But he was always a "child" at heart. I hope they buy back Neverland and kinda make it a museum like Graceland is for Elvis. It would give everyone a look into the mind of Michael and his love for animals and fun. Better to remember him before, than the last few years - he has been totally stressed out.

The Jackson Five (and the Osmonds) were the sounds of my early teens. In my mind I equate them with innocence..... And , of course, Farrah! didn't every girl in the seventies want to be a Charlie's Angel - the original 'girl power'? Although both Michael and Farrah have been off my radar for decades, I extend my condolences to both families. PS. Was anyone else slightly perturbed by how Ryan O'Neal looks these days.......sigh, another illusion shattered!

Quite a change from Love Story and Paper Moon.

And , of course, Farrah! didn't every girl in the seventies want to be a Charlie's Angel - the original 'girl power'? Although both Michael and Farrah have been off my radar for decades, I extend my condolences to both families. Honestly, Farrah Fawcett has never been in my radar (I was in primary school when she starred in Charlie's Angels and it was only recently that I discovered that she had been consistently working after she left the show), but I extend my condolences to her family and friends. PS. Was anyone else slightly perturbed by how Ryan O'Neal looks these days.......sigh, another illusion shattered! His age and the pain and sorrow of what he must have felt since when Farrah Fawcett got sick truly show, don't they?

My favorite Jackson tunes include "Man In The Mirror", "Black & White"---that video was fabulous---especially the first time I saw it, and "Thriller",of course. ----------------------- Ryan O'Neal looks bad to me,but he's been through an awful lot lately. Too sad he didn't get to have the wedding ceremony he said they wanted. I'm sorry for both families----and Ed McMahon's as well.

I'm so sad that he is gone. I was so shocked when my brother called to tell me. I always loved to watch Michael Jackson sing and dance. I really do believe that deep down he was a very kind, sweet, and loving person. I think he had a really good heart. Yes, he could be extremely unique at times... but I think he cared about others and most of all loved his children with all his heart. :( When I watched the memorial service on TV this past Tuesday I had tears running down my cheeks. I feel so bad for his family and friends. He really was just a regular person and I think a lot of us had a hard time remembering that because his success was so big. I love pretty much all of his music but some faves are: "The way you make me feel", "Billie Jean", "Man In The Mirror", "Black & White", "Thriller", "You rock my world" and "Heal the world". When I hear his music I just can't help but start to dance, LOL :) :) Good memories :)
