'The Kid' unveils key cast
This is a project mentioned a while ago and - according to Variety.com - now it sounds like it will really see the light of day.
"LONDON — Brit thesps Rupert Friend, Ioan Gruffudd, Natascha McElhone and Liam Cunningham have all boarded thesp-turned-helmer Nick Moran's sophomore project "The Kid."
Project is an adaptation of writer Kevin Lewis' best-selling true story of an abused child who manages to extricate himself from the criminal underworld to lead a more fulfilling life.
Moran earned critical kudos for his debut directorial effort "Telstar" last year.
U.K.-based sales and finance entity Intandem Films, which co-financed Simon Pegg starrer "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People," has picked up worldwide rights on the project."

He'll be perfect as an inspirational teacher.
And I hope he will shine in this movie as he did in his other projects with Nick Moran (Another Life) - though The Kid will hopefully get a wider international release - and Natascha McElhone (The Secret of Moonacre).
Heee cool to hear Ioan goes back to work. :)
I'm so happy to hear this for Ioan. It'll be fun to watch the news about it progress! Go,Welshboy,GOOOOOOOOO! :Wales :Wales :Wales I'm at the library.......maybe I can find the book......................
Yes, tell us the, if it seems interesting. :)
Hi Nicolette, The library where I am didn't have a copy of Kevin Lewis's book,"The Kid",but they are going to get it for me from another library----so,I'll have to wait until it comes in. Should be at least worth a look!
I'll be interested in knowing what you think, Ship.
Yes,I'll give this one a whirl too..................
By all accounts, it won't be easy reading, Matie. :hmm: There have been so many of these 'abused childhood' autobiographies lately, that it was just too sad to read them. It would be interesting, though, to know why Nick Moran felt this one was special - I look forward to the film.
Just wondering Stevie. Do the others have a positive or inspirational ending? That might be what set this one apart. If Ioan plays the character that helps the Kid get out of the circumstances he's in - it might be a good sign for we viewers. Could be it was the best written of the bunch :dunno or just the only one with rights available.
Hopefully, Nick Moran will be asked why he chose that particular book to base this film on when promotion starts.
