The Film Review article
July's Film Review has an interesting article on the filming of Marvel comics superheroes. They use the FF2 as a basis for discussion. Here are the parts that relate to the film......
"When Fantastic Four premiered in 2005 it was met with largely vitriolic reviews from the world's press, with then-editor of Film Review labelling the film as 'a soulless disaster of almost Batman and Robin proportions'. A damning indictment if ever there was one, as director Joel Schumacher's 1997 high camp escapade for the Caped crusader is often considered to be one of the worst superhero films ever produced. the public were far kinder to Fantastic Four though, embracing the film to the tune of around $330 million in worldwide box affice receipts."
It describes the film's synopsis, then goes on to talk about other Marvel characters in film, questioning whether tRotSS would be the straw that broke the camel's back for the viewing audience.
"As Fantastic four: rise of the Silver Surfer wings its way towards cinema's it will be interesting to see whether cinema-goers embrace the character, as their failure to do so may see the Surfer not only heralding Earth's destruction but the death of Marvel's 'second tier' slate. The future of the comic book movie is far from certain."
That's some responsibility for a light-hearted family film!

LOL, Stevie! :rotf: Smells suspicious.

I agree!

Anyway, interesting review, though, yes, perhaps they're saddling a light-hearted family film with a responsibility that it may not be supposed to carry.
:rotf: on both points!
If this guy is really serious, this is all over my head.

:rotf: Me too! I don't think I'll EVER see or hear the "v" word again without a comic reaction!
I don't think you can officially be called a critic unless you are pretentious.

Critics only like foreign movies or those starring Nicole Kidman! I pretty much take critics reviews with a grain of salt any more. Once I saw them giving Dances With Wolves two stars, that's when I quit taking critics seriously. This was a wonderful film showing American Indians as we had never seen them. All critics hate Kevin Costner for some reason, so they pan every one of his movies.
These FF movies just shows that the public can make up their own minds about which movie to see. These movies especially, show family and friends working together. What more do they want?

I take critics with a grain of salt, too. I noticed that the movies I like best are usually the ones critics give two to three stars to.
