In a continuation of Comics2Film's coverage of the 'Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer' set visit, I had a chance to sit down and talk with the cast. In this installment, we spoke briefly about the Fantasticar. By now, most have seen the photos of Marvel Comics' First Family's flying car, and have heard that it is a Dodge. No word about whether or not it's got a hemi, but everyone seems excited. "The fanstasticar...is pretty fantastic! I'd love to have one of those," enthuses Michael Chiklis, who goes on to describe the cars functions. "This breaks up into parts...into individuals, which is pretty awesome. This is mine right behind me. It's kind of macho actually. Put together it's gonna look phenomenal. "The first time I looked at it I was excited. I'm a car guy," he explained. "This one flies. I don't know, I'd love to cruise around in this one if we could get it to work." Having seen this vehicle, up close and personal, and blown out into its three sections, I have to concur. And Ben Grimm just might have the coolest part, complete with a spoiler in the back and two joysticks to control the cockpit. When asked about the difficulty of getting in and out of the Fantasticar in the Thing suit, Chiklis downplayed his overtalking the discomfort of the suit and said about his portion of the cockpit, "As far as getting into the Fantasticar, I mean, they built a huge bucket seat for me!" On the other hand Jessica Alba wasn't so enthused by the vehicle. "It made me a little sick, actually when we were shooting. I got a little nauseous, in all honesty." But maybe sick in a good way...like the the queasy fun of a theme park ride? Alba resonds, "I've spent a lot of time in the car, and filmed whole days doing lots of virtual, or CGI stuff. What is it, the Back to the Future Ride, at Universal Studios, going up, going down, going sideways...so yeah." In the one scene I saw filming, it did indeed look like a theme park ride, as Sue Storm was crashing into China Town, presumably after a battle with the Silver Surfer. But more on that filming later. http://www.comics2film.com/StoryFrame.php?f_id=24812
