Here's a soup-to-nuts look at leading male performances that are already generating awards buzz.

The Welsh actor plays one of England's leading nineteenth century politicians, William Wilberforce, who campaigns against slavery in this stirring drama from director Michael Apted.

Interesting, annee, but I'm not clear if this is reporting a fact (ie Oscars 2008) or if it is the opinion of the LA Times, in which case I'd have to agree with them!
Well that's interesting, Annee.
If this is the list it must be exciting for Ioan to see his name amongst those of Denzel Washington, Tom Hanks, Michael Douglass, Anthony Hopkins, Johnny Depp, Daniel Day Lewis, Tommy Lee Jones, George Clooney, Jack Nickolson, Russel Crowe and Richard Gere, to name but a few.
I have mixed emotions about this. A part of me is very proud that Ioan came this far, wishes he will be amongst the final nominees and maybe even win an Oscar. :breakdance (Allthough with this competion :???: ...)
At the same time a part of me worries that he will really become insufferable IF he wins. You know, too smug for his own good. He doesn't seem to have anyone around him who will keep him grounded. Hollywood does tend to destroy actors who are not grounded and I'd hate to see this happen to Ioan.

Just a buzz apparently, but it's been said before that he should be nominated, so a part of me is still hoping that he is and another part blah, blah, see previous post :happy
Cheers, Syl! guess I've got my Sunday head on! Ioan deserves at least a nomination for his performnce in Amazing Grace but I wonder if they take other recent projects into account and , like, deduct points for bad behaviour (acting-wise, I mean, not......) He may live to regret FF :wink:
Whee! Ioan's in some pretty serious company there! I agree, he must be very happy to see his name included with all those given. (Syl, do so hope that you are wrong about Mr. I ever getting the "big head". I've wondered about it myself somewhat.) Ioan, slow and steady,wins the race. . . . . . . .. . .

I think Ioan deserves at least a nomination for his performance in AG, but it seems like competition will be tough.
I'd consider this is just the first step in the campaign. Get name on list of possibilities in a paper read by many Academy members. Get some buzz off the DVD since the movie was released earlier. Ads in Variety, etc. There is a long way to go, but it may help him, for the possibility of The TV Set producers setting him forward for Supporting Actor in that. Especially if he could get a Golden Globe nominee for Comedy/Music for TTS. Whether he gets a nomination or not, publicity can only help him get better roles offered or that he's able to audition for.
