The Cleaner
I just wish to recommend American Yo-Zoners to watch a new series that started airing last Tuesday on A&E, The Cleaner. It cost me a sleepless night last night to catch a re-run of the first episode on cable (the episode started at 4 am, my time), but it was worth it. The series is inspired by the true story of a real-life "extreme interventionist," Warren Boyd, and stars Benjamin Bratt as William "The Cleaner" Banks, who, after hitting rock-bottom from his own addictions after the birth of his daughter, strikes a tentative deal with God. Now along with his unconventional team, he helps people get away from their addictions by any means necessary. I've got the impression that they are trying to make the television show look cinematic and the writing was a little clunky; smoother transitions could have been achieved. However, excellent first episode! Benjamin Bratt ( :naughty ) is impressive in creating a well rounded character that is both strong and vulnerable. The supporting cast balances out the episode. I was able to connect with each character.

I did see part of the first episode and will probably watch it again, if I'm off from work when it screens. It did look like it had some interesting possibilities. Kind of glad that A & E is attempting fiction again. As an aside, the magazine is on it's way with a full page ad.

Kind of glad that A & E is attempting fiction again. I think The Cleaner is the first new original series from A&E in six years. Well, it was time that A&E went back to produce scripted drama series again. As an aside, the magazine is on it's way with a full page ad. Thanks a lot, GG.

Oh thanks Frances! I actually saw a little behind the scenes look a couple weeks back at the theater. It did look rather interesting! I've got so many shows to watch already - and it's only summer! Isn't this the time when all the reruns and terrible shows are supposed to be on??? All these cable channels now putting on new original series (USA leading the pack with some of the best).........my summer's turned into my fall/winter! :happy

(...) and it's only summer! Isn't this the time when all the reruns and terrible shows are supposed to be on??? It usually is, isn't it? However, last winter/spring was not great TV-wise, at least in my corner of the world: due to the writers' strike that brought series production to a halt, we got more than our fair share of re-runs on TV.

Frances - you are too right in that! We fans and viewers definitely got screwed on that end. That's why I'm glad the actor's haven't gone on strike like they were threatening to. I think I would have headed straight to books only.

That sounds interesting, Frances - I'll keep an eye on our cable channels for it! Yes, it's good that A&E is making new drama. Granada, the UK production co. that partnered them in making Hornblower is still making wonderful dramas - period and modern. As a side note, it's good to see the BBC's excellent period drama serial Cranford is up for several Emmys!

Yes,Stevie,I saw that about Cranford, too, and was so glad to see the nominations. Judi Dench......surely hope she wins!!!! She was so good!
