With all this violence in films now, perhaps they're becoming de-sensitised and so the industry stretches the borders further each time to satisfy the demand for entertainment. :hmm:
So true.
Scary, isn't it?

Hmm, looks like I'm the only one who didn't think this movie was better than the first then. I just saw it and in my opinion it was pretty average. I didn't laugh or giggle a single time, thought all the jokes were pretty forced and/or stupid, I had way more fun watching the first movie. Ioan's American accent is annoying me like hell, it sounds so fake and forced compared to the other actors' natural accents. I think I'll pass on buying the DVD and spend that money on a good book instead. Sorry, Ioan. :???:

Yeah, but there are so many British actors who can do an American accent that sounds totally natural. Toby Stephens in The Great Gatsby comes to mind...

And jamie bamber gets alot of praise for his American accent, but his father is American......
Gaffer'sGirl- 07-19-2007
I actually felt Ioan's American accent was much better this time around. Plus, an American accent can vary greatly from one part of the country to another, so his pronounciation wasn't incorrect. The biggest problem I see is that we are used to more variation and passion in his voice when he speaks with a British or Welsh accent and that disappears a bit with his American accent. The character is slightly stilted so I think that has an effect. He sounded pretty natural in Century City from what I recall.
GG

I know seacloud I was just pointing out that Ioan's accent was fake and forced seeing as he is not American and he has to put the accent on.

Yes, I think the word 'fake' has taken on a deeper meaning since recent events muddied the waters........

I watched the episodes of Century City that Melfangiel posted the link to in another thread and I admit that I think Ioan's American accent sounded more natural there than in FF, where it seems like he is trying too hard to speak with an American accent, and this is especially true in FF1. It may have to do with the character being stilted.

I totally agree, frances. Ioan has shown that he is able to do a passable US accent of some kind (though I wouldn't hazard a guess on regions - I guess it's like the rest of the world thinks of Engish accents: we're all either posh or Cockney.....) .
Reed's character is emotionally stunted and in some way his method of speech shows this . And to be fair, the mediochre script and frequent last-minute changes haven't worked in Ioan's favour. Methinks I'll reserve judgement until I see another US accent unconnected with FF. (though some Welsh or English would be nice, Mr. Gruffudd? )

Hmm? I don't get it....I wasn't just picking on his accent because he messed around with IOL, his accent was fake so I made a joke about it in response to seacloud's comment.
StevieT- 07-21-2007
Yes, I think we get that, Zoo. I was trying to work out why the accent sounds fake in FF when it's okay in CC. The reference to IOL was bit of irony, no sweat!
I think most of us (but not all, I acknowledge) agree that the FF movies are not what we expect from Ioan. This could be down to our expectations being out of kilter, or necessity forcing his hand, on Ioan's part. He seems to hint in several interviews that FF may not have been his number one choice if he'd had more freedom to choose - he seems to have found this particularly kind of acting unfulfilling, and I can see why.
Just the way I see it, of course

I was just over at moviesunlimited.com, and they are taking pre-orders for FF2 ---available October 2. Is that good or not so good news?
Frances- 07-21-2007
It would be good news because October 2 is less than four months after FF2 was released in theatres. However, I've not seen a release date for FF2 dvd stated anywhere else than moviesunlimited.com.

Yay!! I can't wait to buy it! Thanks for the update!! :)
