I agree, with you Stevie. We all know Ioan's brilliant Acting ablities and their constant changes of lines and semigood writing style, held Ioan back. I still loved the film. Ioan really does look like Reed in the comics, it's uneerie.

I realised that it's Reed's character that is stilted. Ioan shows his thought processes well and captures that nerdy not dealing with emotions aspect brilliantly To be honest, it's his being nerdy and a bit goofy and not being your typical bombastic superhero that had me like Reed so much. I agree with you, Stevie and Jules, that the constant changes of lines did not help Ioan making the best with his acting talent in this movie, but I still enjoyed it.

I saw the movie today and loved it! It was exciting and not as silly as I had expected. Ioan looked great and was in nearly every scene. I think these movies are fun because of all the different powers they have. It is not just one, like Spiderman or Superman. I love Johnny's flaming. Very neat. It was fun to finally see that wedding scene that we have seen so many pictures of. I think this movie shows that Ioan would be very good in a romantic comedy. It was nice to see him get top billing, even though he is mostly forgotten in interviews. That is very strange, since he is the leader and should be the spokesman for the four. The movie is still showing at two theaters in our main complex but there were only a few people there at my showing. I don't see why all the negative reviews from the critics. It was a very fun movie and should appeal to young kids. Loretta

I think this movie shows that Ioan would be very good in a romantic comedy. It was nice to see him get top billing, even though he is mostly forgotten in interviews. That is very strange, since he is the leader and should be the spokesman for the four. He does stay in the background in the presence of two particular strong personalities. But he comes across as basically shy and non-assertive ... in spite of recent events. Hubby is talking about seeing it again with a pal. That has totally shocked me as hubby is not one to pay to see a movie twice in theaters. Maybe it's just the need for some male bonding. I should bust their bubble and tag along! I'd loved to see a flattened Ioan pop his nose out again!

I'd loved to see a flattened Ioan pop his nose out again! That was a funny look. I still love the look on his face once he loosens up while dancing. :dance Just that sexy, fun, flirty look. :pair GG

That was a funny look. I still love the look on his face once he loosens up while dancing. :dance Just that sexy, fun, flirty look. :pair GG Got to agree with you there, GG. He was freeing the spirit, wasn't he? Who knows where that might have led if Sue hadn't turned up! Darn it!!!! On the subject of Ioan's faces, however......WHAT was he doing at the end, when gets......... I mean, he does raw emotion so well usually, I can only think it was an attempt at humour. Okay, Mr F! Where's the real Ioan at? Take back your clone and give us back the one who can ACT!

Where's the real Ioan at? Take back your clone and give us back the one who can ACT! I wondered a bit about that, too. As we've seen some pretty good on screen kisses come from him previously and the one with Sue wasn't quite as hot. I think it may have been the idea that Reed Richards is still a slightly nerdy scientist who doesn't show his emotions as strongly as some of Ioan's other characters. So, maybe it was thought to be an appropriate reaction for the character and the tone of the film. I was begging for more emotion, but I guess I'll just replay some of my old DVD's to satify that need. GG

Whoops  Sorry, missed a (crucial) word out of my post. I was talking about the scene where Sue gets hurt. and Ioan's face does weird things.

I was wondering what y'all were talking about. I was thinking I needed to go for another looksee tonight 'cuz of my feeble brain not remembering things! :rotf: I thought the ending was a bunch of baloney!! After the big explosion I had to lean over to the well-comic-educated hubby who's interest in all things sci-fi is matched by none and ask ... "Shock wave??? Shouldn't they all be obliterated????" "It's in the script." Yeah, right.

Just saw FF2 again for the 3rd time tonight & I just LOVE it!! I really like how it is just a cool and fun action packed movie!! Plus it doesn't hurt that it is FILLED with Mr. Fantastic Ioan himself!!

I went to see the film last Wednesday and I really enjoyed it. It was definitely better than the first one, and I thought that all the characters bonded together really well as a sort of "Family". Ioan certainly came into his own in the this one, and was more assertive, whilst still being slightly nerdy. I thought that the special effects were great, especially the 'London Eye' scene. I also thought the dance scene was highly amusing - especially when he relaxes and really let's go! I also liked the funny scenes between Johnny and The Thing - especially when they acquired each other's powers ! I really don't know why the critics were so harsh again. I don't know quite what they expect it to be, given that it has a particular appeal to young kids. Whoops  Sorry, missed a (crucial) word out of my post. I was talking about the scene where Sue gets hurt. and Ioan's face does weird things. Re your comment about that scene towards the end, Stevie. I'm inclined to agree with you. He seemed slightly repressed, rather than showing the emotion that we have come to expect. But maybe that was something more to do with the character of Reed Richards, rather than Ioan's acting abilities

Reed is the perfect scientist...he's been with his lovely nose in an experiment of some kind, nearly ALL his adult life, and has not come out of a petry dish until Susan came back. He has to just about LEARN how to be a lover, companion, and friend to his sweet Sue. That's why the dance scene is so cute----- he's trying so hard to "break out"!!

I feel free to comment now I've seen it today! I'd have liked to go with one of my other girlfriends, who I know would have had fun giggling along and sharing inside-jokes, but I was invited today and since no-one else wanted to go, I willingly accepted. It seems that it's been a popular film due to the amount of showings. I remember I left it this late until I saw Amazing Grace and there were only two showings! :???: But yes, the film, I really liked it. Warning, spoilers! I remember watching the cartoons as a child and loving the Silver Surfer, me and my older brother thought he was so cool. And he didn't disappoint! Very cool and mysterious. Would have liked to have seen his 'love' who Sue reminded him of. Would she be silver too? I laughed alo the way through the dancing scene. And his American accent had improved I noticed, yet I couldn't help giggling at it. I guess I'm just not that used to it, it's kind of unexpected in a way. And as has been mentioned, Jessica's platinum-blonde wig did get to me a bit, too. I think she would have looked better more natural. Though I'll admit to wanting to be Sue when you see her giving Reed a massage. :cold shower 1 I think some parts went a bit far for younger audiences--the exchange between Ben and Johnny, though I found it quite funny, I thought perhaps a bit inappropriate for kids. Maybe they didn't understand it though. And also, the part where the general gets killed- I was quite shocked at that, we didn't really need to see it. If I was a kid I know that image would have had an impact on me. But maybe I'm too sensitive. With all this violence in films now, perhaps they're becoming de-sensitised and so the industry stretches the borders further each time to satisfy the demand for entertainment. :hmm: I did like how all the characters did interact like a family, and I could especially relate to the fued in public where Reed says 'we'll talk about this later!' I think Chris was very good as Johnny, you definitely got the sort of childish-ness but sensitive side to him. I'm glad I went on the London eye last week before I saw this film! :happy After the big explosion I had to lean over to the well-comic-educated hubby who's interest in all things sci-fi is matched by none and ask ... "Shock wave??? Shouldn't they all be obliterated????" I was thinking the same thing, HilJohn! :happy I was talking about the scene where Sue gets hurt. and Ioan's face does weird things. I also agree, Stevie, LOL! I do like watching his expressions though. And I loved the bit where he becomes un-squished and his nose pops out. One question- I missed how Johnny got all of the powers towards the end? :???:

And I loved the bit where he becomes un-squished and his nose pops out. One question- I missed how Johnny got all of the powers towards the end? :???: I was thinking about this at work as I had five hours of utter boredom to think about all kinds of things. SPOILER ALERT - My thought on the facial contortions, but the limited amount of emotion was because of the kid oriented audience. The Producers may have wanted to make sure they wouldn't freak out young kids (ala Bambi or Old Yeller) so by showing what they did most adults could figure out what happened to Sue whereas little kids would be more apt to think she was just knocked out. I remember also, Ioan mentioning in Amazing Grace how Michael Apted kept wanting him to pull back on the emotion at times. Ultimately, the actor's performance is at the mercy of the director and the editor or the producer. Unless the actor has enough clout to barter for control, they don't have much. That was one of the few places I was disappointed. And Rox - I enjoyed the massage scene, too. :naughty GG

Well I saw it about a week ago and whilst I thought it was a lot better than the first one some things, such as Ioan's acting, were still lacking. I really feel that Mr Fantastic will never be the role for Ioan and he'll never get it one hundred percent right with him, maybe the stress of using the accent just saps away some of his acting spark but some points of this movie really made me cringe. Particularly the part where he goes on about being one of the grea-*test*-('") minds of the 21st century and being engaged to the hot-*test*-('") girl on the planet. Wow, nerd power. The dance scene was cute, embarrassing when you're watching it with a bunch of girls who don't want to be there, but cute. At least the stretchy power looked cool and Reed's face getting squished by the force field was pretty funny. I felt sorry for poor Johnny and how he seemed to be an inconvenience to the team, I think Johnny is the heart of the team and it was sad to see them telling him off or him being told he's caused enough trouble. I rolled my eyes when Sue winds up on the ground and isn't wearing anything, surprise surprise, haven't seen that sort of crap in Fantastic Four before. I had a bit of trouble believing that someone as small as Sue/Jessica Alba could hold up the London Eye with a forcefield. Come on, it's the London Eye you'd have to be a supersuperheroine to hold that thing up. Enough of tearing it to bits though. The Surfer was cool and I did like the movie even with those things I said I didn't like (if you can believe it). It was a nice, fun movie and it mopped the floor with the original. Rox Fox:One question- I missed how Johnny got all of the powers towards the end? He was still all messed up from the SS, didn't they all like join up and then touch Johnny so he got all the powers from them? Leaving the rest with no powers and watching the show from the ground whilst doing nothing.
