Really and truly pissed off
So I just got the official word today that my department's being laid off effective December 1st. Isn't that sweet?? Just in time for there to absolutely no jobs available. We were given our severance packages but we only get the payout if we stay until then. Too bad they didn't bother to make it worth it to stay and bust our asses training people to do our jobs for the next 6 months. And to top it off, the one department that gets to keep their jobs consists of 3 of the most useless human beings to ever walk this earth. They don't know how to do their jobs. We don't even know what they're supposed to do. Any and all questions they have, instead of trying to figure out the answer they give us the question and do all their work for them. They get to stay and we get to lose our jobs, nevermind the fact that we've been busting our asses since this "merger" took place 6 months ago. All this happens the day after my birthday. Happy fricken birthday to me.

Oh,Gnatty! I'm so sorry. Maybe some things will change between now and the deadline date, hmm? Do you have a union? Someone who could speak for the group as a whole? I know you feel terrible, and what a shock to the system,-----please keep us posted, won't you,and feel free to vent. We're here....... -----------------------------Boy,you're sure right about the timing and your birthday,Sweetie; but, allow me to send my greetings belatedly, okay?

Oh Gnat! Sorry to hear that. Sometimes life really sucks! I know that just when you feel life is going to be better something like this happens, but again we have to hope that something good awaits for us. Was the decision out of a blue? Because perhaps like Shipmate said someone could talk in your behalf. And you feel free to talk to us anytime! Love Selma

Oh, Gnat, sorry to hear that. It has baffled me more often what decisions are taken by people in charge... but, please, don't let them get you down. Please vent if you need it. In the meantime all I can do from this place is send you these :hug :hug :hug.

Gnat, I'm so sorry for you. You got one of those birthday presents that everybody wishes never to receive. Whether the news was expected or not, it is so baffling and unfair to lose your job and seeing that the only one staying on are people who don't deserve it. I hope you have a union who can speak for you and your colleagues in your same situation and that another position, possibly in a better company shows up for you. Meanwhile, feel free to vent with us. :hug

So sorry to hear that you are having such a tough time, Gnat, especially so close to your birthday. Try to pamper yourself emotionally for the next few days until you can process the change before worrying about what you will do. You know we'll all be here to listen as you go through this. Many :hug and thoughts for good things to happen are coming your way. Sorry we missed your birthday. I do hope the actual day was nice.

I'm so sorry, Gnat. I really hope something turns up for you - who knows, maybe it's a case of 'One door closes and another one opens'. My fingers are well and truly crossed! :hug

Oh mine! I feel pissed off for you! That sounds irrational on their part... Sorry I have no wise words to say... that just sounds so awful.

Hi guys! Thank you all for your support. Ok first things first, I did have a nice birthday. It was very low key, just my at the P's for a cookout. Very lovely. Secondly, this lay off was really not unexpected. We've all actually been holding our breath wondering when the word was going to come down. Third, there's nothing to be done. The company was bought last November by a company based in California. They decided to keep the headquarters there and so now they've decided to have almost all the corporate functions (HR, payroll, accounting, revenue, A/P) to be done at the corporate office in Santa Ana. It really wasn't unexpected, it's just the timing did suck because it was my birthday. Not to mention the date they gave us is probably the worst time of year to try to find a job. Especially for payroll. End of the year crap going on, closing files and accounts for the year, so on and so forth. I'm actually not angry about the actual layoff. I'm actually looking forward to new opportunities. And now I don't have to sneak around looking for a job because we're all in the same boat. So if I tell my boss I need an afternoon or a day off for interviewing, I doubt she'll have anything to say because she's got to do the same thing eventually as well. But at least they gave us plenty of warning so it's not like it's a crisis if I don't find a job for another month or two. I have until December 1st, and if I'm here still at that point (praying to God that I'm not) then I'll take my severance package complete with PTO payout and retention bonus. But I'll be in dire need of getting a job immediately at that point. And that's why I'm looking now. Because even though I'll be forfeiting my severance package should I leave before said date, I'd rather be secure in the knowledge that I have a job with income and health care coverage. Know what I mean?? So it's not all bad. I'm not angry about this and I'm not even worried at this point. I've already been in contact with an agency for job placements and I saw a job online yesterday that was relatively close to my house and for more money than what I'm currently making. I've already faxed my resume to the contact for that position (it's another agency), so all I can do now is continue to search for a job and pray. Believe me, this is going to be a good thing. I will finally get out of the downtown area, no more train travel, no more parking issues, no more dealing with the commuting public, no more 1 1/2 hour commute and hopefully no more boredom at work!
