Rant: I Wanna Be A Celebrity!
Seems to me that there was an article about a year or so ago where Ioan, Alice and Matthew Rhys were going to some party in LA and it said they took a cab
Also in NY (Hilfiger) and Vancouver (FF2) WelshCake had a car, if I recall. :) And, as frannie said, when he attends premieres.
you mention Helen Mirren. I can tell you that Helen definitely leads a 'normal' down to earth life in this country.
Monday: Cannes Promenade
Tuesday: NY Gala
Wednesady: Vegas And Cirque Du Soleil
Thursday: LA Tranformers premiere
Friday: Dublin
Saturday: The Vault Opening in London
Mind you: as I said before, I would lead their life if I could. But I am too ugly, too short and I have no particular talents.
Sadly, I am realizing that my day really is full, but really really low profile.

Well, are we agreed, then, that Ioan probably takes (or is provided with) a car/limo etc for official events, which are, in the end part of his job? But is probably quite normal in between.
Good. Regarding the title of this thread; I ,personally, do not want to be a celebrity. I have the love of a family (and others!), job satisfaction, interesting friends (solid and virtual). So I have to do housework and take the bus.....life is what you make it. You can have all of the above good things with or without 'celebrity' and many celebrities are so obviously lacking them,I wouldn't be in their shoes for all the money in the world!
The grass is always greener.............

Re: Rant: I Wanna Be A Celebrity!
Honestly, I don't want to be a celebrity. My life is good enough and filled with enough good things as it is.

So what? Actors are obviously participating in premieres of their films and other events, but still this doesn't account for how they spend every day in their life. Perhaps three quarters of their life is spent out of the limelight, filming, auditioning for parts, or doing normal things.

I wouldn't want to be a celebrity for the notoriety. But I would take the status and money.

I certainly don't want to be a celebrity. Never alone, always an agitated live. You are never free. It might be all glitter and glammer but that is a just a façade. You don't live anymore, you are lived. And you might be rich and famous, if you are not happy, life is sad.
I don't want to exchange with actors. My live is good, I have a good family, and a good job and good friends.
I hope that Ioan keeps his heat cool and that he remains himself.

You'll be the first one I call, Annee, if I'm proposed to become a celebrity.
However, the matter is that you become a celebrity because either you were born into a family (e.g., a royal family) or marry someone who is in the limelight, or you do something that put you in the limelight (as it happens to actors or musicians), so I don't know if we could change places, if I became a celebrity.

All that glitters is not gold, after all.
I wouldn't go as far as saying celebrities are not happy with their life, they may as well be. I guess that if they love their job, they can put up with its drawbacks (which job doesn't have drawbacks, anyway?).
StevieT- 03-31-2008
Annee, if I ever become a celebrity, you are welcome to be my stand-in!
I wouldn't mind a Blackberry, though!

I thought about this yesterday, but didn't write it.
When you think about it, so much of the glamour, cars, cameras in your face are a way of protecting an investment. The studios want to make money - you provide a limo to make sure your investment (actors) get to the publicity location on time and the arrival will create a glamorous illusion (as opposed to a performer arriving late in a car that might be dirty or plain). In the limo, the performer doesn't look ordinary, once again studios protecting their investment. Who wants to pay money to see an ordinary person.
While much of this is probably fun, especially at first, it is also work. If you want to be successful, your benefactor must get a return on their investment. You smile even if your personal life is falling apart, answer the same questions over and over very politely, don't enjoy yourself at the party too much or you can gain weight, drink too much and you embarass yourself and your benefactor and may end up with some unflattering pictures.
If you become really popular, it carries over into daily life. If one of us gets drunk in public - who cares, but with a celeb, it could mean the downfall of your career. And some fans do believe that a celeb owes them more than their time at public functions, but to have every moment in public scrutinized and reporting on what's to be found in your grocery basket. That might be reason enough to hire someone to shop for you, even if you'd rather do it yourself.
So, a little bit might be fun, but not to where you are recognized all the time.
