Was the concert enjoyable?
Yes, it was very enjoyable. It even managed to cure my headache: I went in with one and went out without.
"Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude." Thomas Jefferson
I went to a concert tonight and now I have lyrics from a song haunting me...
"It takes talent to grow old without ever growing up." (Franco Battiato)
Loved it Fran!!
I have another one.....
"Love is never have to say I´m Sorry" from Love Story  Loved the film and the quote.
Heard this one today.
"Don't regret what you did, regret what you did not do."
Has a ring of truth to it.
"Happiness is nobody's right, it is an everyday's fight and you must be able to live it when it comes your way."
Wonderful quotes Syl & Fran!!!!!!!!
This definitely holds true for me and my friends:
"It is one of the blessings of old friends that you can afford to be stupid with them." - Ralph Waldo Emerson
Being a choco-holic I loved these quotes I found in a little book.
"Chocolat is not a matter of life or death. It's more important!"
and
"Never met a chocolate I didn't like." (That last one is SOOOOO true  )
"When you are down and out something always turns up - and it is usually the noses of your friends. " Orson Welles

Ditto!!!!!!!!!
"It is not enough to have a good mind. The main thing is to use it well" -Descartes (On the wall next to my computer.
And one of my favorites from childhood
"Me want cookie!"---Cookie Monster
If said enough people will give you a cookie just to go away :)
I've found some quote by Umberto Eco in an old diary.
"I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth."
"Perhaps the mission of those who love mankind is to make people laugh at the truth, to make truth laugh, because the only truth lies in learning to free ourselves from insane passion for the truth. "
"Fear prophets and those prepared to die for the truth, for as a rule they make many others die with them, often before them, at times instead of them. "
"The comic is the perception of the opposite; humor is the feeling of it."
"The real hero is always a hero by mistake; he dreams of being an honest coward like everybody else."
Another one that I am reminded of every time I read critics' reviews of films, books, etc.
"If teachers are in the habit of approaching a story as if it were a research problem for which any answer is believable so long as it is not obvious, then I think students will never learn to enjoy fiction." (Flannery O'Connor)
Umberto Eco is so wonderful at deconstructing language and thought and then coming up with precise words to express himself - great quotes.
I like the Flannery O'Conner quote, also.
"Fear prophets and those prepared to die for the truth, for as a rule they make many others die with them, often before them, at times instead of them. "
"The real hero is always a hero by mistake; he dreams of being an honest coward like everybody else."
These reminded me of the way King Arthur and the Sarmatian knights are frequently portrayed in fan fiction. The first reminds me a great deal of Arthur.
Umberto Eco is so wonderful at deconstructing language and thought and then coming up with precise words to express himself - great quotes.
Umberto Eco taught semiotics (the study of signs and symbols, both individually and grouped into sign systemsand of how meaning is constructed and understood), so deconstructing language and thoght and then coming up with precise words to express himself was his job. BTW, he was full professor at the Department of Drama, Art and Music Studies of the University I studied at and my having loved his The Name of the Rose convinced me to go to conferences he held and he was fascinating to listen to.
