psoriasis
Last week I had a flare of psoriasis. I have that disease since I was 26. The last years it was better. But this year it is the second time that it is so bad. I think you all know that disease. It accelerates the growt cycle of skin cells. The skin has red patches with white skin flakes. You have terrible itching. I hope that my translation is understandable. With the medication it is now a bit better. But I can tell you that the itch was so heavy that I could not function normally. That is why I felt so bad last week.

Sorry to hear this, Marthe but I'm glad you're feeling a bit better :hug Does the change in weather make a difference? I undestand ultra-violet light is one treatment. :The General:

Ouch, psoriasis must be a bothersome disease to live with. I'm glad to hear that medication made you feel a bit better. :hug

Ouch, Marthe! My Dad has a similar situation and I know he's been miserable and his is not such a long time. Itching all the time can drive you crazy. I hope your flareup calms down quickly.

Thanks girls for your words. And it is a lot better. The itch is gone. My doctor ( a woman ) had prescibed a very good ointment for the patches on my skin, another for my face and a lotion for the skin under my head. That it has been so bad, was my fault. Two weeks ago I saw the first red patches . They were small. I still had ointment, so the patches got bettter. So I did not call my doctor. But last week I got a great flarup on my back. I called my doctor in the clinic but she was on leave. Luckily I had her mobile phone number. It is such a lovely lady. She is from Praag and is married with a Belgian doctor. Despite she was on leave, she has helped me and send me a prescription for that ointment. Friday I had received it at noon, so that my pharmacist could made the ointment. I have an appointment with my doctor on November the third. Stevie, I have already had a lot of treatments with ultra-violet light together with medication, three times a week for two or three months. It helps a lot but after a time it becomes boring. There is one positive thing, you get a brown skin for the rest of the year. Gaff, that is strange that your father has also psoriasis and not for such a long time. Does he have stress ? Because that can be one of the reasons, but the cause of the disease is unknown.

Hello Marthe, I'm really glad to hear that you've gotten the relief you need from your psoriasis. I have a cousin who has suffered with it,and know that it can be a very tormenting condition at times. My own skin can be very dry and itchy on occasion (NOT anything like what you have),so I have some sense of how it might feel......and it's no fun, that's for sure.

Glad you could be helped. :)

Well girls, thanks God, the flareup and the itching is over. I am a new person. I love to do my work again. Last week it was not easy to work like a normal person, but I did not stay at home. In such cases you need to focus on your work and try to forget the itching. I have learned that after all those years. And I always say to myself, there are people who are very ill, so I may not complain. Last sunday, as I was already better, I went to Oostende, a town at the Belgian coast. It was great. At noon we went to a little restaurant. We also walked over the pier. The sea was rough. There was a big ship that entered the port. And I started to dream that I would go away with that ship, far over the ocean. In the afternoon, we visited the center of Oostende, where it was fair and Halloween celebration. Then we went for a ride with horse and carriage. We also went shopping because all the shops were open. It really felt good. Here are some pictures.

Sorry but the pictures are not so good, I had some problems with imageshack.

I don't know,Marthe, everything looks VERY nice to me. You had a wonderful trip/time,didn't you? The place looks so beautiful.....but then,I've always been a bit partial to coastal and seaside settings! :) I'm so happy that you feel better now----what a relief, right? Bless your heart. Love, Ship :Horatio wink:

Marthe - Great pictures. Looks like you had a very fun time. I'm glad your psoriasis has cleared up enough for you to go out and have some fun. I think I didn't make myself clear about my Dad. He doesn't have psoriasis, but he has had sort of a mystery itching on his arms, legs and back for a couple of months and the doctors can't figure out how to cure it. I meant that I understand how it can drive you crazy itching so intensely for so long. I'm glad you are doing so much better.

StevieT- 10-29-2009

Looks like a fine day out Marthe! Glad you're feeling better :hug :The General:

Good that you got help, Marthe. As a nurse i know how nasty psoriasis is, and i know how it feels to be long-time sick from personal experiance. I hope you have peace now for long time. These photos are nice!

WarriorSelma- 11-01-2009

WoW loving the photos, they are very nice. I have a little question about a treatment of psoriasis that includes fish. Is that kind of treatment you are familiar with and is it available where you are?

marthe- 11-02-2009

Selma, I do not know a treatment with fish. But I have looked it up. There is a place in Turkey, Sivas where there is is a center called 'Health for Live Turkey'. There you can follow different treatments, and also one for psoriasis, thanks to the combining effect of hot water springs and nibbling fish. The water is always 37 degrees and rich in selenium and the fishes who nibble the shin clear. It is a treatment from 21 days and you have to stay in the water 4 + 4 hours a day. I think that the treatment is expensive and it does not heals the cause of the disease, because they have not yet found the cause of psoriasis. Selma do you mean that treatment ?
