Saturday I went to the veterinary surgeon with my dog Roef because he was a bit ill. This afternoon I got a call from the veterinary surgeon telling that my dog is very ill. He has cancer. We are all very sad. This news has frightened us very much. Our dog Roef is more than a dog, he is like our child, like the brother of my sons. So my dear friends, today I am very sad. My dog was always so happy, he has had such a good life with us. And now we are waiting till the end. It will be a sad spring and summer.

Thank you so much dear friends, for your support and understanding words. Some people will say that it is just a dog but to those I will tell that my dog is more human and understanding than some men. Yesterdayevening when I got home I have told it to my husband Andre and my sons Tom and Geert and to their girlfriends. They are all very sad. I was a strange evening looking to Roef and thinking that in a couple of months he will not be sitting with us no longer. I do not realize it yet and I am afraid for that moment. I am also afraid to tell it to my mother. Roef is also her best friend and since my father died, Roef keeps her a lot of company while we are working. Like you all say, we must make the best with Roef of his remaining days. Love Marthe

Marthe, I am very sorry to hear this. I had a dog in the seventies and I still think of him to this day. So, I can certainly relate to what you are going through. Keep us posted, Gina

Dear friends, it is a sad Easter. My dog Roef has died this morning. Last week he had good and bad days. He suffered from the water that he had in his abdomen. Yesterday he was not good at all. We went to my mother with him like every saturday. He was to weak to jump in our car. My mother saw that he was ill, but I did not told her the bad news that he had cancer. Last night he had difficulty with breathing. I think I have slept four hours. I was always watching over him. This morning he had to vomit the water he had dronk. He lied down and I picked him up. And then he felt down and he was dead. I have cried all morning. My husband and sons are also very sad. Then we have told it to my mother. She is now here with us because I do not want to let her alone. This afternoon we will bury Roef. Sory for my words but today live sucks. Easter will always be a sad memory.

I'm sorry to hear your beloved Roef died this morning. I can understand how sad an Easter this is for you and your family and I know it wouldn't be comforting to tell you that at least you had not to see him suffer for a long time. I :hug you, Marthe.
