The Chicago Historic Museum sounds very interesting, Gnat, and a good idea for a day out with your family, if the weather is likely not to be great over the weekend. Museums are often an option for me when I'm on holiday and the weather is bad.

The 1872 Chicago fire sounds like a display I'd like to see. So does the changes in the community you were born in. My parents both came from Goshen, Ind. so I've heard a lot about Chicago since I was a kid. Your little excursion sounds like fun. A good friend of mine was also from a mixed Catholic background of an Irish Mom and Sicilian Dad. I always thought it was an unusual situation, but I guess it's not so rare after all. Hope you have a great time and that the snow bypasses you.

Hey girls! Well the weather was definitely NOT ideal - even being at the museum. We still had to take the train downtown, plus a bus from the station to the museum itself. And then walking over to the building from the bus stop - well it would have been better had there not been rain and blowing winds. It just made for a biting cold and miserable day. One of those days where you just stay home in nice warm jammies with some old movies. But alas, we went to the museum and had a great time. It's not a very big museum, it was plenty for a couple hours though. And it was very kid friendly which was good since we had my aunts 2 little girls with us. But there was so much to learn and read and it was a lot! A lot of history and facts about Chicago that I never knew. They had a great display on the Fire and the 2 world's fairs. It was fun! And the exhibit about the suburb I grew up in was pretty cool too. They even had a display case specifically for my high school!! I was shocked! They had 2 yearbooks, one from 1973 and one from 2006. I was looking at the teachers pictured on the pages in the 2006 book and noticed that all but one teacher were new since I graduated. Floored me. They also had the trophy from when (and I didn't even know this) the boys basketball team took the state championship back in 2001. It was kinda cool to see all that - even though I hated it there. :happy Anyway, if anybody on here is ever considering coming to Chicago for a visit - don't hesitate to look up the Chicago History Museum. It's well worth the trip. And it's right by the Lincoln Park Zoo - which is free admission - so if it's a great day out, you can stop in there afterwards!

Sounds like a great time, Gnat. The Lincoln Park Zoo sounds like a worthwhile venture, too. I pretty sure my parents went there when they were kids. We've had some nasty weather here the past few days. Saturday was Spring, we hit the mid-60's and yesterday sounds like your day in Chicago - windy and wet. Worse still, several people said it was snowy west of us in the Forks area and it felt like it could here. Still does today.

Frances- 04-15-2008

I'm glad you enjoyed the Chicago History Museum, Gnat. I'm make sure to include it in my list of sights, it I ever get to visit Chicago. Weatherwise, we've had storms and wind over here, too, in the last few days.

GNAT0629- 04-16-2008

Yesterday's weather wasn't so bad. It was in the 60's, but it was very windy. It's still windy today - very windy actually. But I hear it's warm out - they say we're supposed to see mid 70's too. We shall see...............

Gaffer'sGirl- 04-16-2008

I'd be jumping up and down over mid 70's. We will probably be in the low 50's today and they are still talking about some possibilities of lowland SNOW later this week! I doubt it will hit my area, but maybe some of the surrounding areas and likely cold winds. Is it Spring, yet?

GNAT0629- 04-17-2008

Well Gaff, we're still sticking with the wet trend ourselves here. We're supposed to get storms tonight that continue through tomorrow and Saturday. And yesterday was a gorgeous day - unfortunately I was stuck inside at work all day. It was like 74 degrees when I got home though so that was awesome. It was very windy, but not a cold wind so it was beautiful. Today it's still warmish, but it's cooler than yesterday. I don't think we're seeing 70's again for awhile.

Rain, rain, rain, wind, rain, rain, rain, sun, rain, wind, rain..........that about sums us up, and it's freezing!!!!!!! I can't believe it's halfway through April and my grass hasn't had it's first cut yet! It's hardly even growing. Happy days!

Frances- 04-17-2008

Rain, rain, rain, wind, rain, rain, rain, sun, rain, wind, rain..........that about sums us up, and it's freezing!!!!!!! I don't if I'd mid-50's freezing, but this sounds like the description of weather over here. :waaah:

GNAT0629- 04-18-2008

So all the rain we were supposed to have been getting since yesterday never came. Yay! It's still a bit cooler today than it has been. Boo! Oh but we did get an earthquake! Did anybody hear about this??? I didn't feel it. It was in southern Illinois right on the border with Indiana. They said that it was felt as far south as Alabama and as far north as Michigan and Wisconsin. I didn't feel so much as a shudder. :???: What are you gonna do? As far as I know, the damage reported has been minimal and no injuries/fatalities. But what a way to wake up this morning eh?? Oh and with the Pope here in the States too. Welcome to America Pope Benedict! :happy

Gaffer'sGirl- 04-18-2008

Gnat, I did hear about that earthquake when I got up this morning. I'm glad to hear it didn't effect you. Thought maybe you were taking our West Coast phenomenoms as we have your weather - Windy, Wet and Wild. They are still taking snow by tomorrow morning. Aaaah!. I'll let you know if it happens.

Frances- 04-18-2008

I did not hear about the earthquake in southern Illinois. However, I'm glad damages were minimal and there were no injuries/casualties.

StevieT- 04-19-2008

At the risk of sounding like my mother........what is the world coming to????? Now, in my day.........

Gaffer'sGirl- 04-19-2008

Ok! We had snow yesterday surrounding us. It snowed in the neighoring town and we are talking big, white flakes - not spitting snow. It's melting fast, but may be more today. So, I join you Stevie in saying - What in the world is happening to my world?
