Mixed Feelings
I'm feeling a little sad this morning as my sister, her husband and the dogs took off for Hawaii in the early morning. They are up in the air right now. I'm happy for them as it it their dream and It will also mean that Hawaiian vacations may be in my future. But, I'm also a little down because it has been wonderful having them nearby these last few years. I'll not only miss them, but I'll miss the farm, the dogs, the chickens and the duck. I learned to feed bees, harvest honey, collect eggs from under angry chickens and buck hay. Good times - sad to think of them in past tense. I'll be ok in a day or two and on to the new normal, but I'm indulging myself in a few tears today.

I'm joining you in a few tears today, Melissa, as I empathise with That feeling of seeing someone you love off, out of your immediate reach. Lots of virtual hugs, me dear!:hug :hug :hug

Thanks so much. They made it safely to Hawaii, so that's good news. I understand what you are going through and it's definitely tougher, so :hug across the ocean back to you.

If I may,can I squeeze in here and say that I'm thinking about BOTH of you,and will keep good thoughts going as much as I possibly can! I know it isn't easy. :hug :hug

Good thoughts and Virtual hugs are always welcome. It's especially tough on my Mom and Dad right now because traveling that far by plane is too hard on my Dad's back. But, my sister promises to come back at least once a year.

Well,I certainly hope that will be possible for your sister to do that. I think I can understand pretty much how your parents might feel.

Sorry that they left GG.
COURAGE!
Gaffer'sGirl- 10-22-2009
Thanks Nicolette. We got an e-mail and they are very happy and excited. It will just take some getting used to for me.

It will take some time to use to them being away. And today in this day and age of virtual communication you you stay in touch more often than back in the days when there was no internet. I know that is not good enough like having them around but it will perhaps take the transition easier.
Hugs and kisses dear.

Sorry for my being late in responding, GG.
I can understand your mixed feeling about your sister and her husband leaving to Hawaii. Though you know they're following their dreams and the're going to be happy, that you can visit them and they can visit you, and that you can always hear from them on the phone of by email, it is always hard to see sameone you love go and it takes time to get used to the idea that you won't be around one another as you had grown used to be.
:hug

Thanks, Ladies.
I had a nice little thing happen today at work related to the farm. I was working at the door of the store and I saw a Mom and a little girl walk in. I commented on how cute the girl's boots were and the Mom said she was wearing them because they had just been to the pumpkin patch. I asked if they had seen the chickens. They said yes, and that they had also seen a duck who thought it was a chicken. Well, that was our Ducky. So, her story is being told to little kids who come to the pumpkin patch. Maybe I'll write it as a short story. Anyway, it's kind of comforting.

Gaff, sorry that I am late to give you courage but I had a terrible week. I explain it in an other subject.
It must be hard that your sister is now living so far away. I wish you and your parents a lot of strenght. You are such a warm and close family that missing your sister must be very painful. Gaff I know you are a strong girl but take care of yourself.
Nicolette- 10-24-2009
You are welcome!
Nice story. :)
StevieT- 10-24-2009
That would make a perfect children's story, GG

Lovely story, GG! I guess that mother and her little girl will remember and smile at that duck who thought it was chicken for a long time...
This reminded me one thing... two, actually... one is that I have to get a pumpkin for my Jack o' Lantern and pumpkin pie, the other is that I had a duck once who thought it was a kid.
When I was about 8 or 9, a farmer at a farmer's market gave me a baby duck and once I took it home, it adopted my mother: it followed her wherever she went and only slept on her feet.
