Lest we not forget, that's the writer claiming Ioan is a Hollywood Heavyweight, not Ioan himself. Since it's a Welsh paper I'm sure the Writer would say the same thing about Matthew with his new level of success. I suppose if the Writer's comparing them to other Welsh actors, they are both getting closer to that level. After all, Ioan has been in several Number 1 in the Box Office movies. Not there yet, but closer. In fact, though calling Ioan a Hollywood heavyweight may be a hype, I can understand how a Welsh writer for can be proud of the achievements of a fellow countryman in a tough industry.

Gaffer'sGirl- 06-26-2008

I quite agree.

StevieT- 06-27-2008

Avtually, I was just reminded (by the You-tube video of the CF Show) that FF2 was No 1 in the US at one point - I'd call that 'heavyweight' even if he hasn't repeated the box-office success yet. My Welsh auntie was always saying I had "the Welsh gift of the gab" and they are certainly known for their clever tongues! I doubt Ioan himself would describe himself as a 'Hollywood heavyweight' as GG points out. But I digress! :Wales Llongyfarchion! :Wales to Matthew on getting perhaps the highest accolade for a Welshman.

Gaffer'sGirl- 06-27-2008

Ioan's been in several Number 1 U.S. Boxoffice Movies including both FF movies, Black Hawk Down and little film called Titanic. When you include the Oscar, Emmy and BAFTA nominated projects that he played a major role in, I guess I can understand a Welsh writer calling him a heavyweight. But since this is Matthew's thread, I will also say Matthew is moving right up there and I'm looking forward to seeing The Edge of Love. I hope it brings more attention to Matthew's acting abilities.

Not sure how far the UK is right now with B&S but there might be spoilers in here: Every once in a while there is some news that simply makes me smile: :sun When the Brothers & Sisters site did a poll for the "Golden Winebottle award" (The Walkers do like their drinks! ) I was curious. It is all done just for pure fun, but of course I hoped to see Matthew/Kevin 'win' in some category. I certainly had not expected the results to show such a support for Kevin/Matthew Rhys (and his lover Scotty/Luke MacFarlane) :shock Favorite character: with 41.92%: Kevin Walker Favorite actor : with 34.94% :thud : Matthew Rhys (to give you an idea: no 2 and 3 were Dave Annable and Rachel Griffiths, both 10.84% of the votes. Favorite storyline : Kevin/Scotty wedding: 41.67% Favorite sibling love interest: Scotty 48.19% Favorite wedding : Kevin/Scotty 59.74% Favorite couple : Kevin/Scotty 59.17% (in second place came McKitty with only 27.81%) Favorite guest-star: Luke Macfarlane (Scotty) 57.25% Of the 11 least favorite storylines offered: Kevin/Scotty got 3.03% (and with 5 other storylines getting a total of 70% of the votes there was not much left to divide anyway  ) Of course, if you would make the same poll on another board, you might get different results, but because it is such a large and general board with so many different interests, I was surprised by the results. I sure had expected the couple Kitty/Robert McCallister (McKitty) to get more votes. Especially since Calista Flockhart and Rob Lowe are so popular. Or even Sally Field to get more votes as favorite actor/actress. (She ended sharing place 4+5 with Calista Flockhart. Each getting 10.24% of the votes.) It sure brightened my day a bit. Just thought I'd share it. :hide

I missed the original message, but Luke Macfarlane (Matthew's co-star on B&S) will be appearing in Italy to promote the mini-series Iron Road at the Roma Fiction Festival on July 7th @ 5:30 PM (17:30) in Room 3. I don't know if anyone of us here at Ioanzone is going, for whatever reason, but if anybody just happens to go there, some pics of him would be so appreciated...

Nicolette- 07-07-2008

Hello. :) I just uploaded these two pictures of Matthew Rhys for you, from the Scotland Press 'Photoshoot' for "The Edge Of Love". I don't know if you've seen them already... :bye:

Anonymous- 07-08-2008

I hope it's the right place to post it. :) The interview (Credit to MIS) is Math's, but I decided to post it since it mentions Ioan and how they have become ... respectable guys. Haec Ornamenta Mea - These Are My Jewels. http://la-*test*-('")7.co.uk/articles/2008/07/02/matthew-rhys-interview/

Sylviane- 07-08-2008

Wow! Indept interview, must have taken the interviewer at least 20 minutes of Googling. Nice picture though. And there cannot be enough mention of Matthew around.

Nicolette- 07-08-2008

Thanks for the article Annee. :) I didn't know Ioan and Matthew Rhys lived THAT CLOSE. That's cute.

Sylviane- 07-08-2008

I think they no longer live so close. Like I said, google-interviews. Matthew Rhys recently bought a new house and I understand it is no so close to Ioan this time.

Gaffer'sGirl- 07-08-2008

Actually Sylviane, from the description of Matthew's new house, it does sound like they are fairly close. Likely closer than they were when Matthew was staying in Hancock Park at Michael Sheen's place. They may or may not be just around the corner, but pretty sure they are within a mile or two (maximum). Not bad for L.A. where most have cars.

Sylviane- 07-09-2008

A-ha, thanks GG, I stand corrected.

Sylviane- 07-09-2008

Luke Macfarlane (Matthew's co-star on B&S) appeared in Italy to promote the mini-series Iron Road at the Roma Fiction Festival on July 7th and had this to say about Matthew Rhys: Mr. MacFarlane, you play a character that has a relationship with another man. Do you have any difficulty in performing that, how do you relate to your colleague? Luke MacFarlane: He’s a wonderful actor, and he’s very professional, and working with him has been very easy. He’s confronted our relationship in the right way, and I’m sure it hasn’t been that easy for him, as he’s heterosexual and he was raised in a particular environment. His professional capacity made our job very easy. (Thanks to Kong Chang at http://lukemacfarlane.org posting it and c.giuly for the translation.)

BTW, Brothers & Sisters finally reached Italy on July 3. Season 1 airs on RAI 2m Thursdays at 9.50 pm. I have to admit that it is not encouraging that summer was chosen to first air B&S, because it is the season when Italian networks reserve for re-runs or series they don't believe can be successful, as summertime is when people over here spend the least time watching TV because they get out more and they usually leave on holiday. If my memory doesn't fail me, House, MD, is the only series among several that had a summer premiere that then went on to become 'mainstream'.
