You keep on describing LA as a "large problematic town". Ioan, Mattie, Jessica Alba, Helen Mirren, Lisa Rinna, Jennifer Aniston, ... describe it as Heaven (Very rarely an actor moves back from LA). Mah. GG has already answered your questions. Anyway... I am a lover of large towns (it I had to move, I'd move to a larger town than the one I live in today, not a smaller one), though I realize that the advantage of living in large towns is often psychological rather than real, as you often end up not taking the opportunities they offer that much, even if you can afford it, but large towns are often 'double-edged swords'... they offer much, but they are not necessarily easy to live in... spending a long time moving from one place to another is a problem that springs to mind, another is that you have to be able to afford the entertainment on offer (BTW, you don't need to be a millionaire to afford it, unless you want to go out every night and patronize only the most expensive venues)... As for your comment on actors seldom moving back from LA, I think there is another issue at play here. I think that many actors may move to LA because of the job opportunities on offer there or because they like the climate, but after a few years spent there, they may have lost contacts with the people they knew back home and built up a new home, started a family, and made new friendships and new business contacts in LA and it would make no sense to go back to where you were originally from. I have an uncle of mine who moved to Milan because he wanted to be journalist and if you wanted to make a career in journalism at the time he started working, Milan and Rome were the places to be in Italy, you wouldn't have gone very far, if you weren't open to move there. Anyway, to cut a long story short, that uncle of mine stayed on in Milan even after he retired because he started a family there and all his friends were there.

Frances, I think you're right that people build a life in a new city even if their original intent for moving there was for a job. and this makes them more prone to stay. Big cities do have more available to do and there are frequently free or cheap events - like concerts in the park or festivals, etc. So, you don't always need money, but it does help. Actually, I would not mind spliting my time between the city and a more rural area. I enjoy aspects of both. But, for actors like Matthew or Ioan - living in a large city for a good portion of your career is almost inevitable.

MetYou Celebrates Memorial Day. :) http://mrbigsblog.blogspot.com/2008/05/memorial-day-weekend.html

Nice write up from IC Wales on Matthews new film..... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/wales/mid_/7429831.stm

That is a nice article on Matthew's role as Dylan. Definitely an important role for any Welshman. I noticed one of the connecting articles was on Cherie Blair's book. Like you said at one point, Stevie, it does sound like great source material for Ioan's role as Tony. Probably moreso if it were a larger role, but still good background.

Sylviane- 06-02-2008

Thanks for that interview Stevie. :hug On a slightly 'gayer' note: Matthew is on the "hot 100 list 2008" from "AfterElton.com", a leading gay-site. He went from rank 63 to 22. (Oh the hair!!!! ) http://www.afterelton.com/people/2008/6/hot100?page=0%2C13 His delicious partner-in-crime in Brothers & Sisters, Luke MacFarlane, (page 20) came in at rank no 3, from out of nowhere. (I've seen better pics of Luke!) Btw, Jamie Bamber went from rank 25 to 35 (page 12)(infamous towel picture) , Ioan isn't on it AT ALL... Chris Evans ended up on no 8 (from no 2) One of his pics is interesting... I think the no 2, should have been no1. Hot-*test*-('") of those mentioned in the top 10. But than.... I'm not a gay man, but a straight woman, who profoundly enjoyed watching the list. (can't we confiscate a few of them for the alley... as 'target-practice', purely for business, not pleasure, of course  )

StevieT- 06-02-2008

Definitely appropriate targets for confiscation, methinks! I love it that Daniel Craig's at No. 16....... :love2: :faint :cold shower 1 and that's a luvverly pic of Colin Farrell, too. Glad to see Gorgeous George (the :nurse pin up) is still in there. Time for a skulk to the Alley, General......... :whistle

Sylviane- 06-02-2008

His delicious partner-in-crime in Brothers & Sisters, Luke MacFarlane, (page 20) came in at rank no 3, from out of nowhere. (I've seen better pics of Luke!) AND fortunately KC managed to convince AfterElton to post a better picture of Luke, that shows how cute he is  .... I can't wait for season 3 to begin ... in 4 months... ;angry:
