Alright I was already psyched enough about the finale of B&S - Now ABC has been so kind as to release the promotional pics for this episode. The pics of Matthew & Luke (Kevin and Scotty in the series) are just so pretty.
I have posted them here at my life-journal:

Kristin interviews the cast of Brothers & Sisters, including Matthew Rhys and Rachel Griffiths. CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS!!!!!
http://www.eonline.com/videos/index.jsp?edition=uk
Find and click on: "04/29/08 6:11 PM Watch With Kristin: "Brothers" Scoop" It is by date and time, so it should be easy to find. It is about 2.28 minutes and there's a few seconds for Matthew (min 1.20-1.40) and Rachel and also Luke MacFarlane (gosh another one whose name is prominently misspelled  ), who is Matthew's co-actor and 'partner in crime' on the show.
Sylviane- 05-07-2008
I've wondered if I should post this or not, as I really don't like to spoil other peoples fun and we have no real way to "protect the unexpeciting" from reading things they didn't want to know.
But in last Sunday's episode Matthew really blew almost every one away with his acting. He became the centre of activity, because he gets sucked into the lives and pains of several other key-characters. And almost everybody has so much praise for him and his acting talents. (and that of 'partner in crime' Luke) that it is just wonderful. And I am really happy for Matthew that most people rave about him and about how he moved them to tears with subtle things, like pauzes and looks.
I know that a few posts back I expressed my worry about what would happen, but so far, both of them mainly got praise and the occassional homophobe that dares to show up, gets chopped to bits. There will always be those, but it seems the majority accepted the story-line which is so cool.
And now I'm going to get tissues for next Sunday's episode.
***BROTHERS & SISTERS SPOILERS *** STOP READING IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW ***
AND he topped off the episode with the most beautiful proposal I've EVER seen. (and I have seen a lot of them tv. )
The long YouTube clip had nearly 75.000 hits in nearly 3 days! The shorter version, only the proposal, had nearly 13.000 hits
EDITED TO ADD: Forgot the Warning: clip shows two men kissing. If it offends you, don't look at it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKSi1gCYOXQ is all that happened that episode (you'll get the  )
"I'm completely, completely, in love with you. I even love the things about you that I hate." It doesn't get better then that.

Congratulations to Matthew on being part of something so groundbreaking!
When you say you don't agree with the future plans, Syl, do you mean the couple adopting kids?
Our favourite Brit soap Coronation Sreet has a gay couple commitment situation ongoing at the moment. Marcus is a midwife and Sean (the camp one of the two) is a barman. Sean wants a commitment ceremony, but Marcus is unsure........

When you say you don't agree with the future plans, Syl, do you mean the couple adopting kids?
Exactly. Not that I think that they shouldn't be allowed. It's just that Kevin is a busy lawyer and Scotty is an apprentice sous-chef in the kitchen of a five star-restaurant. Scotty is quiet proud of what he has accomplished. I take a bit offence at how fans respond that 'naturally' Scotty should become a stay-at-home-dad, as if everything he has done is meaningless, just because Kevin is wealthier and more accomplished in the "work"-area. (Kevin is also 7 years older then Scotty, so he has an advantage.)
In his previous relationship Kevin dated a priest, Jason, and things got complicated when Scotty came back in his life. There was a tendency of the Jason-fans to put down Scotty, because Jason came from an established family, was wealthy and well educated and he would therefore be an equal (=better) partner to Kevin.
Scotty is a cater-waiter, who struggles with his finances, but put himself through chef-school thanks to a payment from a fraude-case he was involved in (=how he met Kevin) Scotty works hard in the restaurant, has a second job as waiter at catering-events and still studies, he is very driven to be succesful in what he does.
Although he initially moved in with Kevin, because he got evicted for (temporarily) not being able to pay his rent, he tries to stay as financially independent from Kevin as he can be. Seeing his drive and discipline and hard work to accomplish thrown to the wind because of a sudden 'child-wish' grates me. It's not like HIS biological clock is ticking. Matthew already said that Kevin still needs to learn more about relationships. He is by no means, ready to be a father and neither is Scotty.
Besides, I feel the topic of 'let's adopt a child' is being made very easy on tv sometimes. It is not a library book you're hiring, it is a child that comes into your life. Another human being who will change everything, no matter how well-prepared you are. That is something that is often overlooked or romantized.
StevieT- 05-09-2008
Many thanks for that in-depth insight, Syl - I haven't been able to watch as much of B&S as I would have liked. A new series starts here on Sunday (or was it last Sunday? )
I totally agree about not taking the bringing of a child into your life lightly. Who is wishng for the child - Kevin or Scotty? I suppose if it was the latter, or both together, then it might seem natural to him to stay at home. If it's Kevin pushing, then that's a different ball-game. It will be interesting to see how this pans out - it certainly seems to invoke great feeling in their fans! (and I really liked the way Matthew talked about the letter from the mother of a gay son.)

Some fans do. Kevin/Scotty haven't discussed it at all. Kevin is proud of how Scotty is trying to change his life and is, I believe, rather supportive. Kevin likes his own job as well.
I guess, that is why it offends me that fans already assume that Scotty will stay home. Because he's supposed to be the more 'effeminate' one, therefore he's the one who will give up his dream of a chef-cook, that he's worked these last 2 years for? I haven't really seen anyone say: Kevin is 35 years old and has got enough money, why doesnt't he work less days and become a father?
Stepping off my soap-box.

Yes, there is a lot of fan response for a lot of characters. Especially Dave Annable, who played a veteran of the Iraqi war, got a lot of praise for his portrayal of Justin. But also Sally Field, who with her character Nora, proves that a 60 year old widow doesn't necessairely have to become some wilted flower, but can be sexy and fun. From what I read on several gay-sites, Matthew is praised for playing a gay man without the use of all the clichés that are usually shown. He is a lawyer, a son, a brother an a friend who happens to be gay. And that his portrayal of Kevin has made it easier for other men to come out. Because Kevin is so accessible.

Any chance they'll do it, or will the BBC not go on with it?

I agree with you that parenthood is depicted in too an idyllic way and the 'let's adopt a child' or 'let's have a baby' is taken too light-heartedly on tv sometimes.

This is unfair, but it reflects prejudice that even straight couples have to endure. How fair is it to expect it will be the mother who will give up her job or work less when a couple has a baby rather than the father, unless she is the professionally most successful/accomplished partner and higher-earning partner in the couple?

Well, they've gone with every other 'controversy', so I don't see why not. It's ITV, rather than BBC, if that makes any difference, but 'Corrie' has been running for over forty years and I don't think there's anything they haven't covered.
Sean had a recent storyline where he helped a female friend father a child and was then heartbroken when he was cut out of it's life by the girl's boyfriend. I think his desire for commitment is a backlash from this. It's good stuff! I'm a bit of a Corrie addict, especially as it's set in Manchester - a good working class soap!

Maybe the show will cover some of the issues mentioned when the idea of adoption come up. It would be great if they could wait a season or two before making that an issue and allowing the Scotty character a chance to advance more in his career, but that is the nature of TV. You never know if there will be a next season and it does seem like exploring that idea would be the next step in their relationship. Hopefully, B & S will deal with it thoroughly.
My brother spent a few years as Mr. Mom because his wife made more money and didn't enjoy being at home as much as he did. He was very involved in special programs at school and it gave him some time for his artwork. Though just like one of the things many Moms complain about, he felt limited in getting adult interaction.

That was a nice article for Matthew. I watched the season's final episode last night. Don't worry. No spoilers. Just wanted to say the whole episode was nicely written and well done on tying together several threads and bringing up new ones for next year.
