You are right, Frances. I hope I get to see it in the cinema. Want to see Matthew on the big screen. So I will wait for the review of the movie..

Gaffer'sGirl- 04-11-2008

I look forward to seeing this movie, both for the subject matter and a chance to see Matthew on screen.

Why shouldn't he buy a house in LA? He can afford it, with yet another season of B&S on the way. I can imagine that even if B&S doesn't get renewed for a 4th season, he would still be in demand. He received glowing reports on his acting and he, so far, hasn't misbehaved himself. He has the right people around him now. Being seen with the likes of Sally Field, Calista Flockhart and Harrison Ford is not the worst thing that can happen to him. Balthazar Getty and David Annable, his brothers on B&S are both very grounded too, as is Rachel Griffiths. I doubt he will let this celebrity-thing go to his head. Sally won't let him! :rotf: (She's apparently taking real good care of her 'kids' on and off the set. :happy ) But so far Matthew has not cut his chords with Wales. He still wishes to return. He can still see the beauty. He still misses it. ETA: He made 'Edge of Love' last year during his break from B&S. There was mention that he might play in UK movie to be filmed later this year, but with him having to stay in the US for B&S and barely having any summerbreak at all this year, I guess it got cancelled.

Why shouldn't he buy a house in LA? I thought him a little more special, do not ask me why.

StevieT- 04-12-2008

Whatever your job, it makes sense to live close to it, and if you can afford to buy, then why not? There are good things about LA as well as bad (like anywhere). I loved it when I was there! Good on Mattie for being secure enough in his work to settle..... I love Dylan Thomas' work and I'm looking forward to the Edge of Love, too.

A bit sad that Mattie does not seem to be missing Europe that much. "I so love Wales but I buy in LA". Once you live in LA, there's no turning back it seems. I thought him a little more special, do not ask me why. I'm with Sylviane and Stevie on this. Why should Matthew not buy a home in LA? If his work is in LA at the moment and he thinks he will be 'stuck' in LA for some time, it can make sense to buy instead of renting a house there, if he can afford it. Then, if he ever decides to get back living in the UK, he can sell his LA home and buy another in the UK. Actually, I've met quite a few people who live in country different from the one they were originally from, who are proud of their origins but are happy in their adopted country and some eventually decide to go back to the country they were originally from, while others don't. Honestly, I don't see how this makes them unspecial.

Having lived in L.A. for several years and nearby for most of my life, I can say that despite its reputation, there are many positives to living in L.A. The weather being the first. Freezing temperatures are rare. And snow? I never saw it except in the foothills or mountains. Then, there are the beaches which are quite close and warm. The mountains for skiing are within an hour and a half. The general West Hollywood area that they are located in has great resturants, shopping and cultural activities. Not bad all in all. And it does appear that there is a great British community there, not to mention that while most countries have there film industries, for most actors success in Hollywood is considered the brass ring. Then, there is the practical. You will generally make money from buying a house, either equity or profit as prices rise and in the U.S. you can get a tax write-off for interest on your mortgage that can make for a huge savings at tax time. I believe this is true for non-residents earning money here.

...while Luke has never said he was inclined one way or the other. Although, Matthew is still my absolute no.1, I have grown to like Luke for his portrayal of Scotty (I simply adore him) Only a few posts ago I spoke about Luke MacFarlane, Matthew's 'lover' in B&S, not telling whether or not he was gay. Today he decided to come out that he is in fact gay... :applaud: Good for him. He didn't HAVE to, but wanted to. That is great. So congrats to him! He gave a lovely interview, but said nothing about Matthew, :???: And now I wonder so many things. Did Matthew now? The chemistry between Luke and Matthew is so great. It seems easier with Luke then with the other 'lovers', who were both straight actors btw. Does it make difference for him to play opposite someone who is gay? Is he more 'aware' of how he portrays Kevin because of it? For those interested in reading it: CAREFUL, HAS SPOILERS FOR SEASON 2!!!! http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/LAC.20080415.MACFARLANE15/TPStory/TPEntertainment/Television/
