Hey Sylviane - just wanted to let you know I was googling some Ioan stuff and your Matthew Rhys bio came up fairly high on the list. :woohoo Even though I read it here first, it was so fun to see that way. Kind of like running into a favorite movie while channel surfing. Nice job!
I'm not quickly impressed by fanmade videos but I loved this one! It was created by the webmistress of
http://lukemacfarlane.org
It shows fragments of the love between Kevin Walker (Matthew Rhys) and Scotty Wandell (Luke MacFarlane) until the last episode aired last Sunday (so there might by
spoilers!!!!) "All out of love" is sung by John Barrowman (Torchwood's Captain Jack!) So basically you can't go wrong.
Warning: contains m/m kissing, if it's not your thing....

If you liked it, leave her a message on YouTube or on her site. It would be appreciated. :wink:3rd season for Brothers & sisters!!Now that the writers' strike is over: Brothers & sisters will return with 4-5 new episodes for this season AND the series was also picked up for a 3rd season. YES!!! This will mean one more year of Matthew as Kevin Walker! If he wants to stay on the show off course. But he 'd be fool to walk away, it is a succesful series.
Life can be good. :sun

I took a look at the first one and the two were quite funny together. Thanks Sylviane.
Major Brothers & Sisters Spoiler ALERT
Major Brothers & Sisters Spoiler ALERT
If you don't want to know stop reading now....
You were warned......!!!!
Spoiler for eps 2.16 - regarding Kevin (Matthew Rhys) and Scotty (Luke MacFarlane): (If this really going to happen it is said to be a first on Prime Time Television.)
According to gossip Kristin at E-on line, the big spoiler for the finale of B&S (eps 2.16) is yet another Walker 'wedding' that can be considered 'not necessarily the most traditional kind as opposed to the commitment-ceremony-ish kind' and it 'may not exactly be legally recognised'. Kristin has so far been 100% accurate with her spoilers on B&S

As Lewisfan48 at TWoP informed us:
"The highest legal form of recognition (for same-sex couples) in California is domestic partnerships, though many same-sex couples still opt to have private commitment ceremonies. There's no legal recognition, but it's still a way to honor the couple's commitment in front of their families and friends."
The spoiler follows in the footsteps of the spoilers on eps 2.14, in which Kevin discusses the subject of a domestic partnership with Scotty. Assumption is that Kevin/Scotty will get their dom. partnership in combination with a "commitment ceremony".
I do hope that if this goes on as planned, it will not have a negative impact on the careers of Matthew and Luke. Though I personally applaud the fact that B&S dares to consider and discuss (and hopefully even show) it, the topic of 'gay marriage' is also a big hornets' nest. So I hope that playing this will not backfire on Matthew and Luke, who managed to create these two great gay characters.
Syl, I admit to not following B&S, but I'm interested to know why you think paying a 'married' gay man would be more damaging to an actor's career than playing a 'single' gay man in a relationship? I don't disagree, I'm just pondering it.....
Matthew, for instance, must be commended for his ability to portray realistic, as well as comic-book gay parts. I think his acting has proved itself in enough straight parts not get him labelled (well I hope not anyway - I've enjoyed much of his work) I'm afraid I'm not familiar with any of the other actor's work to comment on his likelihood of being pigeon holed.
It's an interesting point though - at which point does an actor say 'enough is enough' or 'this is what's getting me work, money and kudos'?
Let's see if I can put this into words:
Having spent quiet some time on several boards regarding B&S, I noticed that a lot of people are crazy about Kevin and follow his love-life fanatically, but there are just as often people who respond to the character in a less friendly way.
The 'nicest' approach would be: "I know gay people exist, but do we really have to see them on tv?" to some serious litanies on how gay people should be put in special camps, throw away the key and forgotten about... (Yes! Really, I'm not making this up!) Not to mention the 'Christians' who, with all their compassion, will remember the posters on how offended God is by gay people to unleash AIDS on them and them alone... (Yup, they still exist... Frequently.) And those 'well-wishers' will certainly not forget to mention that God will punish those, (like me) who feel that gay people have the right to be themselves, with some serious deceases, curses and disasters. And I am glad that usually those posts disappear as quickly as they come.
Considering how fanatic the 'anti-gay' parties in America are, I wonder how much heat this idea of an impending gay marriage could create. A lot of the fanatics still consider that a 'loving, caring relationship' can only exist between a man and a woman. So the idea of them portraying a couple about to get 'married' (or as close to it as they can get) might offend a lot of viewers in America and the actors are the first to get the heat. Matthew and Luke run the risk of getting totally trashed.
HOWEVER:
I don't believe that either Matthew or Luke are 'forced' to play something against their will and I don't believe that either of them will walk away from the part they created. They also received a lot compliments for their portrayal of Kevin/Scotty. But one of the main complaints (gay) people had, was that Kevin couldn't stay in a relationship. His rocky love-life would only re-establish the idea that a gay man cannot commit. When there are gay couples who are together for 10, 20, 30 years, Kevin cannot hold on to relationship for more then 6 episodes, without messing it up... which now makes that Kevin will take such a significant step, a step that is a 'natural' consequense of what has already been built between the 2 characters and what will still be built in eps 2.13 to 2.15, before the actual ceremony in 2.16.
I agree that Matthew will not easily be typecast and he is more than capable to play both straight and gay parts. Luke has also played both gay and straight parts, allthough more in the theatre then on tv. However Matthew has been fortunate enough to keep his personal life out of the picture. Luke, on the other hand, has been put in the public eye after another actor TR Knight decided to 'come out', while pictures of him and Luke together at a mall, appeared in the media, branding him as TR Knight's boyfriend. Thing didn't help him, when a few months later Luke was spotted walking with Wentworth Miller (of 'Prison Break' fame), leading to speculation that WM was gay, which was denied by WM, while Luke has never said he was inclined one way or the other.
Although, Matthew is still my absolute no.1, I have grown to like Luke for his portrayal of Scotty (I simply adore him), but also for that of Dim in the series 'Over There', a series about soldiers in the war in Iraq. they both worked very hard to make it the American film industry (Luke is Canadian) And I would be sorry to see their careers get hurt, merely because they play a very convincing part and people cannot tell the difference between an actor and the character that he plays.
Ah, I see now where you're coming from - thanks for the in-depth explanation, Syl :hug .
I am saddened, but not surprised that these nasty characters post on the B&S boards (and glad to hear they are quickly moderated out). It seems the series goes out on a limb to tackle the realities of life in a truthful way. I suspect Kevin's inability to commit was true to his character at the time - the world is full of 'flighty' people; gay, straight and bio. For gay people to protest that this shows them in a bad light is not realistic, is it?
It occurs to me, that much bad feeling arises when fans make the mistake of projecting a character's attributes on to the actor, but it seems also to be very common :???:
I really must get into B&S, so I can discuss the characters more fully.
....(and glad to hear they are quickly moderated out).
They can still be unsettling when you accidentally read them. Speaking of vitrolic.... Some of them are really creepy and very cruel.

I guess it is a fair portrayal, I've read comments from gay men on AfterElton, that they recognise themselves in Kevin. Succesful in their work, financially independent but their personal life... could be better.

Carefull, those Walkers get under your skin if you let them....
It is amazing how civility seems to go out the window when people are posting on the internet.
I haven't heard anything in news or magazines about people being upset about the content on Brothers and Sisters from either side. As far as I know there haven't been any protests which topics like this used to cause. I suppose because individuals have more immediate access to voice their opinion on the internet, they do it in haste, without consideration for the other people involved and once it's there, it's hard to get rid of. I too, hope it doesn't negatively effect either of their careers.
I'm amazed, too, by how rude people can become when they're posting on the internet.
B&S is broadcast here on cable and I haven't heard anything either about people being upset by the series content or protesting about how topics are presented.
