GG
Yeah, thanks Marian. I wonder if it'll be an extra on the DVD when it comes out.
The program was only 15 minutes long, and I took detailed - but scrawled notes - as I watched, but the damn phone kept ringing and I havent had chance to re-watch and rewrite a clean copy yet. I'll do this today.
Despite the short length, it still provided some very good insight into the story and the actor's thought processes. And a couple of plot spoilers, but I wont put those in.
For the mos tpart - the interviews were conducted in one session each and cut together later. Maybe the Behind the Scenes team had 1 set of questions for all of the characters.
PART 1:
Making of F4: The Rise of the Silver Surfer, Sky (NZ) Sat 9 June
Heroes on the Rise
IG (In wedding tux & on set) – an extraordinary script full of adventures on a massive, massive scale. Compared to the first, almost one hundred times bigger.
JA: (in red dress in studio) - I think the fans will be happy. We definitely take them to a lot of places. Visually, it’s going to be a bit more stimulating, if that’s possible.
CE (in wedding tux & on set) It’s going to have more entertainment value, not just because we have more characters like the silver surfer, but we have the opportunity to dive into more action!
IG: We are just going to see a much more cooler, sexier movie; a lot of expectations for the movie and we are very excited about it.
4 Heroes, 1 World
MC: (plain clothes by transport section) – It was great in the first movie that it was a NY story and now it branches out to the rest of the world.
IG: - we are travelling all over the world; the characters are going from here to there, from America to Europe, Asia.
CE: It’s just a colourful setting, a more interesting backdrop to the film.
JA: it’s really smart that the F4 appeals to that. We are global super heroes and it makes the movie bigger and feels a little more current.
The Rise of the Silver Surfer
IG: The name itself is cool and I’m very envious of him. It was a very exciting moment for the hardcore fans. Visually it’s going to be so exciting to see a guy with a shimmering silver glow to him.
JA: the Silver Surfer is 7 foot tall, the tallest guy I’ve ever seen, except for a basketball player. He’s just this amazing physical specimen, sinewy and muscley, so innocent.
CE: He’s not human, he’s alien, and so that alone has an attraction to it. How are they going to make him look? Exactly as he does in the comic book, which is this amazingly reflective metal which is so beautiful to look at.
JA: The SS is really interesting because he’s so misunderstood and I love that my character has a connection to him because he’s eternal and he has great instincts.
Part 2
The Fantastic Family
JA: the new movie is easier – we have all played these characters before, so it gives us an opportunity to discover new things about these characters and ourselves.
CE: the real treat as an actor is to see how we get to be true and authentic to our characters.
MC: Most super hero stories deal with who are loners with super powers or qualities which sets him or her apart from others. Well this is 4 different people with all their quirks and foibles and they have to work together to achieve a common goal.
IG: It’s light-hearted, much more light-hearted than the other comic books. They poke fun at one another; you can associate with them a little bit easier I think, than the other super families that are out there.
CE: these characters had room for evolution from the first film and they did a good job working those areas in.
JA: You start for form more of a family element to who the F4 is.
IG: The characters have evolved, their powers have evolved – :censored (*PLOT SPOILER EDITED OUT* - naughty Ioan :no no ) - very exciting.
MC: sort of a dysfunctional family that’s heroic; there’s something really kinda cool about that.
IG: it was very exciting to re-visit the character because I’ve grown older so RR has evolved and much more in control of things (until Sue Storm gets annoyed - :rotf: sorry it's a plot spoiler so I wont tell you  ).
Andre Braugher has a spot here, but I could kear what he was saying as his voice is deep and the sound on the tape was 'wonky'. I tried to adjust the stereo and tv but nothing worked.
IG: To have the opportunity to play a character called Mr Fantastic - it’s a pretty cool name. To have one of the coolest super hero names out there - I’m proud to represent that character.
JA: Sue has changed in the second movie in that the first movie she was angry and felt overshadowed – that invisible quality. Now that she’s a super hero and found her calling in life and is with the man she’s supposed to be with she’s a lot more settled as a person. In the first movie I didn’t have to do any stunts at all, I just needed to stand there and (indicates pushing of hands) and had a lot of wind blown on me. In this one there more dramatic things and Reed and I get married.
(in wedding dress) it is one of the exciting bits in the movie and certainly for my character, and there’s nothing like seeing a woman in a wedding dress saving the day!!
CE: You go back and brush up on your comic books and make sure you stay true to the way he was originally portrayed and make sure that the people who are going to see this movie, the comic fans, are going to be happy.
MC: the first F4 movie, for me, was all about the suit and overcoming anxieties about the suit (shows latex being applied to face). He’s still kind of a curmudgeon. Anybody having that suit would be cranky, but he’s over the initial shock of that. He’s moved on to a degree and he’s helping to save the world.
Dr Doom is Back
JM: (street clothes in studio) he is much more authentic and true to the comic book. (There was more – but I couldn’t get the sound right to hear everything – too much music with Julian’s voice-overs)
MC: (back in street clothes) It’s the way the movie works – for everyone to see the hero in themselves!!
Off to buy a hot chocolate now!!
F4 & the SS debuts on June 21 here in NZ - same day as Blades of Glory which has another fav actor in it!!
Thanks for posting that Marian.
Enjoy the hot chocolate. Hmmm! I may just have to join you in that. Sounds good and it's still quite chilly here in the evening in Washington.
It's almost summer. The sun is setting around 9:45pm and it's still in the low 50's F in the evening. When the wind blows off the Strait. Brrrr!
