Lyrics of Life
This is a thread where we can share any song lyrics or poems that touch us in a particular way. (Happily, sadly, any way at all!)Tell us the story that makes the words so special.
For instance, we all have a break-up song, don't we? I have several......
"Let Him Fly" by the Dixie Chicks said it all when my husband and I separated.....
"Aint no talking to this man,
Aint no pretty other side
Aint no way to understand
Stupid words of pride.
It would take an acrobat
And I already tried all that
I'm gonna let him fly.
Things can move at such a pace
The second hand just whizzes by
You know the light has left his face
You can't recall just where or why.
So there was really nothing to it
I just went and cut right through it
Said, I'm gonna let him fly
There's no mercy in a live wire
No rest at all in freedom,
Just as we are given it
There's no choice at all.
The proof is in the fire
You touch before it moves away
But you must always know how long to stay
And when to go
And there aint no talking to this man
He's been trying to tell me so
Took a while to understand
The beauty of just letting go.
Cos it would take an acrobat
And I already tried all that.
I'm gonna let him fly.

Such a great idea that we have to thank you Stevie and Shipmate.
Ok no brake-up song for me at this point but that one is really something Stevie! Before I continue I want to share a story about my friend; she is wonderful fanfiction writer and most of the time (if not all the time) she ends a chapter of her story with a appropriate song to what she is writing about. And we all at one point felt like we can connect to a song/poem or a story and even to the book. And this is a wonderful way to share the lyrics that we like/love.
Here I bring you a song that lets us express our feelings of love for someone special.
DID I TELL YOU?
Did I tell you that I love you today?
Have I looked into your eyes
'Cos I've taken down the last remaining wall
And showed myself to you
As I am
All my faults
All my flaws
All my yearning ...
Oh, I love you
Always have and always will
And I want to fix this moment
Hold it near
Hold is deep
Hold it still
Did you know how scared I used to be?
Scared for you, scared of me
But taking down this barrier
And touching you at last
Has broken all that down...
Into dust
Blown away
Now there's us
And we're real
Oh, I love you
Always have and always will
And I want to fix this moment
Hold it near
Hold is deep
Hold it still
Oh, I love you
Always have and always will
And I want to fix this moment
Hold it near
Hold is deep
Hold it still
Into dust
Blown away
Now there's us
And we're real
Oh, I love you
Always have and always will
And I want to fix this moment
Hold it near
Hold is deep
Hold it still
Oh, I love you
Always have and always will
And I want to fix this moment
Hold it near
Hold is deep
Hold it still
Did I tell you that I love you today?

I have nothing right now - but I love that song Stevie!!! It's one of my top 10 faves from the Dixie Chicks. Such a simple melody, and the lyrics are so raw and honest.

Don't Give Up(You Are Loved) by Josh Groban
I'm a huge Josh Groban fan and absolutely love this song. This is the song I listen to when I've had a rough day.
Don't give up
It's just the weight of the world
When your heart's heavy, I
I will lift it for you
Don't give up
Because you want to be heard
If silence keeps you, I
I will break it for you
Everybody wants to be understood
Well I can hear you
Everybody wants to be loved
Don't give up
Because you are loved
Don't give up
It's just the hurt
That you hide
When you're lost inside, I
I'll be there to find you
Don't give up
Because you want to burn bright
If darkness blinds you I
I will shine to guide you
Everybody wants to be understood
Well I can hear you
Everybody wants to be loved
Don't give up
Because you are loved
You are loved
Don't give up
It's just the weight of the world
Don't give up
Everyone needs to be loved
You are loved

While this isn't the whole song, I strongly believe in the lyrics of this song from WICKED. I think it's the most beautiful song about friendship and what a person can bring into another's life:
Who can say if I've been
Changed for the better?
I do believe I have been
Changed for the better
Because I knew you...
I have been changed for good.
Gaffer'sGirl- 04-02-2008
I like that Gnat. I haven't seen Wicked, nor have I read the book, but it's on my to do list.
Sylviane- 04-02-2008
Where do I begin? I cannot live without music. I SO agree with John Miles in Music
"Music was my first love and it will be my last,
Music of the future and music of the past.
To live without my music would be impossible to do
In this world of troubles, my music pulls me through."
It says all there is to say about my feelings for music and what it does to me and I don't need to add another word.
( Off course he only sings this twice and the rest of the song is pure music. It's over 5 min long and still moves me to tears because it's SO powerful. :weeping) For those who don't know it:

I'd never even heard of him before Sylvianne. Thanks for sharing the clip. That would be a great road trip song.

I love that song, too, Sylviane! It's so evocative of how music effects us.
I'm a great fan of Everything But The Girl. It's slightly weird, synthesised music, but their lyrics always seem to connect with me. For instance, their song 'Mirrrball'.....is my self-encouraging mantra (I know, that makes me weird too!) I did the disco, fighting, mirrorball thing. I kissed my best friend's guy (sorry, Wendy!) and I lay on the grass and counted the stars. Oh, yeah, and my birthday's in September, too! I love this song.......
"You never knew the teenage me and you would not believe
The things you did not see, some pretty , some ugly.
And he lovely mirrorball reflected back the all
Every triumph, every fight under disco lights.
Come on girl, it's alright.
Come on girl, it's gonna be alright now.
Well, I guess some boys adored me, but the one I loved ignored me
And caused me in the end, to murder my best friend.
And though I got her letter, it never did get better
So I got out of my head and joined a band instead.
Some good times I remember - my birthday that September,
We lay down on the lawn and counted until dawn
The stars that we lay under and is he still, I wonder
The fairest of them all, mirror, mirrorball?
Come on girl, it's too late.
Come on girl, it's too late now.
Let it all go, it's gonna be alright now.
Let it all go.

I'm going to have to dig up the lyrics to some of my favorites, but "Wind Beneath My Wings" is a big one with me, and has been for a long time.
Gaffer'sGirl- 04-02-2008
Have to say that Carole King has been a long time favorite in particular her song Beautiful. It's on that uplifts me and gives me a better attitude.
In school, I edited my first Music video to it.
Beautiful - Carole King
You've got to get up every morning with a smile on your face
And show the world all the love in your heart
Then people gonna treat you better
You're gonna find, yes, you will
That you're beautiful as you feel
Waiting at the station with a workday wind a-blowing
I've got nothing to do but watch the passers-by
Mirrored in their faces I see frustration growing
And they don't see it showing, why do I?
You've got to get up every morning with a smile on your face
And show the world all the love in your heart
Then people gonna treat you better
You're gonna find, yes, you will
That you're beautiful as you feel
I have often asked myself the reason for sadness
In a world where tears are just a lullaby
If there's any answer, maybe love can end the madness
Maybe not, oh, but we can only try
You've got to get up every morning with a smile on your face
And show the world all the love in your heart
Then people gonna treat you better
You're gonna find, yes, you will
That you're beautiful as you feel

I'd never even heard of him before Sylvianne. Thanks for sharing the clip. That would be a great road trip song.
There are song that, to me, shouldn't be played in the car. :happy Like Music by John Miles, but also Queen-Bohemian Rapsody, Meatloaf-Paradise by dashboardlight, Bon Jovi - You give love a bad name, but also Elvis Presley-Suspicious minds/Devil in disguise or Michael Jackson's Thriller, because those are songs that need to played LOUD and are totally distracting when you have them in the car. :pink ellie
It wouldn't be the first time that I take the next exit or drive around the block an extra time, just because they play some good song on the radio and I don't wanna go home

I understand - Bohemian Rhapsody makes me want to speed.
GNAT0629- 04-03-2008
Hey Gaff - you MUST at least see the musical! It's absolutely the best one I've ever seen. And I've seen Phantom, Beauty & the Beast and Les Mis - but this by far outdoes them all! I have the book and read it. It's really good, but it's a lot darker than the musical. VERY different ending!
Blue Eyes- 04-03-2008
I understand - Bohemian Rhapsody makes me want to speed.
Bohemian Rhapsody has that effect on me too. I also find myself head banging to it in a Wayne's World style.
