Loving great Expectations!
Firstly, thanks Stevie for inserting this thread.
I was having "Ioan withdrawal" so purchased GE. I just love his interpretation of Pip and I'd love to hear from others who feel the same.
Ioan plays the emotional scenes so well.
I must add I thought the set design and beautiful photography were very evocative of Dickens England.

When I saw this thread, my first thought was I need to view GE again. I'm going to try and do that on my day off, so I can comment more.
I did love his scenes with Joe and when he's learning the proper way to eat . .and . . .and . . .and. . . I'll have to watch it again to respond more specifically.

Hi SusieD, I'm going to watch GE again myself, before I say anything more about it,okay? It's been a long time since I've seen it. (I DO remember the ending threw me a little tho'!!)
StevieT- 03-10-2008
Whish I could see the whole movie - I have to make do with clips! ;angry:
But he does seem adorable in those.......
Gaffer'sGirl- 03-10-2008
You don't have that Stevie? I thought it was a British production and would be available to you.
StevieT- 03-10-2008
I think it was a Masterpiece Theatre production, wasn't it?(could be way off the mark, here, mind!!!! ) Or maybe it was available here, but only on Region 1 now :weeping
Shipmate- 03-10-2008
Aww,I'm sorry,Stevie,...why does it have to be like that so often?! DRATS!!
StevieT- 03-10-2008
Don't worry about me....sniff....I'll just....sniff.....crawl into a corner....and....sniff....remember the brief snatches of .....sniff....happiness I once had with....sniff....Pip.
On the other hand, I still have it to look forward to, so.....

Search eBay: I found my R2 copy of GE there and I think there may be copies available even now.
SusieD- 03-10-2008
Don't despair Stevie! I would have thought it was available in UK as it is a BBC/ABC America co-production?
Yes it is "Masterpiece theatre".
I DO remember the ending threw me a little tho'!!
You are correct about that Shipmate!
I did love his scenes with Joe and when he's learning the proper way to eat .
So many soft emotional moments. Ioan does those so well! :crying

It was made for Masterpiece Theater, but it was a co-production of WGBH Boston and the BBC America. Funny, I always thought of it as a British production.

Never fear, Ladies!!! Thanks to Frances' excellent suggestion, my copy will arrive shortly. And not only that, but Poldark too!!! :pink ellie :faint
Gaffer'sGirl- 03-11-2008
Very cool. I just checked out Poldark from the library, AGAIN! I have a feeling if the library checked there records - I would be the most frequent checker-outer.

I watched Part 1 of GE tonight. Someone mentioned the pig scene recently and I had forgotten exactly when that happened. Then I saw it, in the little house with the Aged. Very cute indeed. The pig almost looks like a puppy resting in Pip's arms.
I also love the look on Pip's face when he is told he has a benefactor. His first suit and boots looked oversized, but I guess that was the style of the day. I plan on watching Part 2 tomorrow.
Gaffer'sGirl- 03-30-2008
I finally got a chance to watch Part 2 again, last night.
I felt Pip's initial reaction to Magwitch was perfect. Ioan did a great job. To watch the change in his attitude was quite touching.
I also liked the way things ended with Estelle and Pip. It made sense within the story.
OK, now to objectify - his hands are just gorgeous in GE :cold shower 1 . Silly, I know, but they are.
