Just a Rumour?
This movie news site seems to think they will revamp the Fantastic Four franchise without Ioan and the others.......weird! Unverified) rumors are starting to fly about 20th Century Fox (possibly) retooling and rebooting their Fantastic Four franchise. The previous two Fantastic Four films earned a combined total of over half a billion dollars at the box office, but never really succeeded in connecting with critics or fanboys alike Now, just so we’re clear on our Hollywood terminology: “retooling” and “rebooting” Fantastic Four would essentially mean getting rid of the previous cast and crew, and pretending 2005’s Fantastic Four and 2007’s Rise of the Silver Surfer never, ever, happened (how many of us would like to forget that they did?). So to Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, Michael Chiklis, Julian McMahon and director Tim Story: if this (unverified) rumor DOES turn out to be true, (no) thanks for your services, but it’s looking like the world would like to go in another direction with Fantastic Four. http://screenrant.com/fantastic-four-reboot-remake-kofi-5998/ Food for thought........ And there are further, ah, interesting comments on this blog.... http://theplaylist.blogspot.com/2009/03/fantastic-four-franchise-to-get-reboot.html

I went and read those sites and the people who seem the most dissatisfied with the FF movies are the fans of comic books who would like to see all comic based movies dark and adult oriented like Dark Knight, Sin City and the current Watchmen. I think the lighter hearted Comic movies have their place, too. The FF movies made a decent amount of money - no not on the scale of Dark Knight, but I'm sure they showed a profit. Last week, I went to see Watchmen and spent several scenes with my eyes covered because of the grossness of some of the violence. I also felt that it was confusing for someone unfamiliar with the graphic comic and the characters. So, personally, despite their faults, I enjoyed watching the FF movies more than some of the darker comic movies. And I think it had more appeal to a general audience, not just comic book geeks.

Some other movie news sites, where this is being discussed - seems like it will probably happen.....that's got to hurt the original cast :hug http://www.empiremovies.com/?p=25921 http://www.aceshowbiz.com/news/view/00022625.html http://www.moviehole.net/200918072-a-fantastic-remake http://www.411mania.com/movies/news/98882/%5BMovies%5D-Fantastic-Four-to-Get-a-Reboot?.htm http://www.cinematical.com/2009/03/10/fantastic-four-to-get-the-reboot/ http://blogs.coventrytelegraph.net/thegeekfiles/2009/03/rumoured-reboot-for-the-fantas.html

I'm sure it does hurt, especially when they thought there might be a third episode since FF2 did pretty well box office wise. I also think the fanboys are blowing a bit of smoke. If the studios do another one so soon, it would seem that they would lose the general audience that enjoyed the movies as who wants to pay to see a similar story. Most people want to see something new. It likely wouldn't open big with fanboy action, unless word of mouth pronounced it exceptional or they had a cast the fanboys were really excited about. If they went for bigger names in casting, the cost between that and and trying to make the CGI even better would be prohibitive. The film would have to make quite a bit more. Then, you'd have to find big stars willing to take the time to do a remake of a film so recently out in the theaters. Could you imagine George Clooney being willing to play Mr. Fantastic when it was done so recently and he can pretty much cherrypick the roles he wants to play? If the studios really wanted to do a 3, but wanted to make some changes - I would say to make a switch on the writer and director which would make a change to the tone. Keep the faces on screen the same, so that you have an actual series you can market. And yes, I think they probably should have cast an actual blonde for the Sue Storm role, but I'm sure they were counting on Jessica Alba's name to draw some of the audience, especially fanboys. She was the most well known when the first movie came out. Actually, I think it's of reboots is kind of lazy on the parts of Studio bosses. It may be good business, but lazy. I would much rather have them produce new stories. I just read that they are talking about re-doing Nightmare on Elm Street. Now, that is pretty much considered a classic of the horror genre and Wes Craven is a well respected director.

Tsk,tsk,tsk,tsk--------have they completely run OUT of things to make movies about already??? I agree with the one person who said that for crying out loud.........IT'S A COMIC BOOK story, people!!!!! And, mostly kids read comic books;so,that's where most of the focus was aimed. AT NOSTALGIA. At kids. At parents of kids. At FAMILIES!!!!!!!!! Bubblegum is NOT an obscene thing..........

Part of the main reason I liked the FF movies (besides Ioan of course) was because they had lots of action but they were also light hearted and fun. Chris evens is so funny... We had a great time watching FF2 last night just chilling out & having a good laugh while at the same time watching some eye candy. :) I really don't think they should change the cast... like someone said, it is too soon to start over and remake the films.

Though they not my favourite Ioan movies, I liked the FF for your same reasons and I agree that it is too soon to start over and remake the films, maybe it will be okay in ten years.

Still don't have any desires to see a re-tooled,re-booted version. I'll save my money, thanks.

"While Disney's upcoming purchase of Marvel Entertainment will eventually put it in control of many of the publisher's stable of characters, the big-screen rights to both the "Fantastic Four" and "X-Men" properties (as well as "Daredevil") are held by Fox for as long as they continue to make movies out of the associated characters." http://www.mtv.com/movies/news/articles/1620504/story.jhtml ^^According to the MTV article that Stevie posted above it sounds like FOX could still make more FF films with the same cast if they wish to do so. There is still hope then to see Mr. Fantastic (Ioan) once again on the big screen

Shipmate- 09-18-2009

Well now,IF that could be the case,.......I'd reconsider seeing a film that Mr. I was in,of course!! Otherwise--------nah,don't think so.....
