Welcome Maricruz.
Sylvaine - Jamie's story in cold case was complex in the telling - so much so that I put down my knitting to concentrate on it.
So here goes
1981 - A group of 5 college friends get together 10 yrs after they leave college. Most of them haven't seen each other since leaving college. They (Porter, Zee and Sarah) gather at Jack + Johanna's house (Jamie was Jack). they all leave on the Saturday and early hours of Sunday morning Jack wake sto find Johanna not in bed and hears the kettle whistling on the stove. he goes down stairs and calls out to Johanna but she doesnt answer. he turns the gas stove off - and that end of the house blows up. Sarah pays for the funeral but didnt go because she was too upset.
Fast forward to 2006 and new owners of the house are renovating and restyling the kitchen and call the police because they find remnants of a bomb in the wall cavity behind the stove. This was not discovered in 1981 because the remnants had fallen down below the hole inthe wall and gatherin gevidence was not so fussy back then.
So after the usual back and forwards to the various people in the story, and gathering all bits and pieces, Porter finally tells his part in the plan which goes like this:
Porter: In 1971, Jack had been the organiser of a pro-*test*-('") group call the Jones Family. Their motto was "Peace at all cost" and theiy pro-*test*-('")ed mainly about hte Vietnam War. One evening a science lab is blown up. Porter, Zee, Johanna, Jack and a man called McBride take part. Sarah isnt told about the plan as she doesnt want anything to do with violence. McBride is her boyfriend but he dies in the explosion.
At the 10th anniversary weekend, Jack receives a several calls from Mr McBride about his son, telling Jack that he just wishes he knew what happened and why McBride was there and how he came to be killed. (In 1971, the others had disclaimed all knowledge of the bombing and so it was assumed that McBride was working alone and he got sloppy and was killed accidentally when the bomb went of early.) Jack had decided to tell the authorities to right a wrong and so that he and Johanna can go forward with their lives unencumbered. The 5 take a vote and it is decided not to say anything, because all 5 would end up in jail.
Porter (who has had a life long, seemingly unrequited, crush on Johanna) continues: on the Saturday - late afternoon, he and Johanna talk, and she asks him to help her save her life and in return she will be with him. Porter knows how to construct a bomb (he made the one in 1971) and so makes another and it is connected to the gas stove. All Johanna has to do is turn on the gas as if to make a kettle boil and when the gas is turned off - "BOOM!"
Porter was upset that Johanna didnt make it out alive, which is why he told the story because she was dead.
Things go slightly to plan except for 2 small things.
1. Sarah had asked to stay overnight and go home on the Sunday; She had been most vocal about everyone's reluctance to tell the authorities and had not married. She was upset that the vote had gone against her.
2. When the blonde detective (sorry I forgot her name) interviewed Sarah inthe beginning, she had remarked about Sarah's orchids and Sarah had said how they symbolised family. When the detective had interviewed Zee and he told of overhearing Jack and Johanna argue at the annivesary weekend, after the vote. Zee hears Jack tells Johanna that he needs to do this before he can contemplate having children.
He has a good job - lovely house, etc, but the burden of McBride's death is pulling him down. Johanna points out they still won't have kids and will lose everything because they will both go to jail. She doesn't want to lose her house or job - or Jack's job and excellent wage because she was the only 1 of the 6 that grew up 'poor' ie not of rich parents. He also told the detectives how he heard Johanna comment about orchids being like family.
The detective went back to the squad room and pulled an old file of fingerprints for Sarah and a new file of fingerprints for Sarah and guess what?? They dont match.
The 2006 Sarah is really Johanna - and she was arrested at a basketball game her daughter was participating in.
All of them are convicted- Porter and Johanna for the murders of Jack and Sarah and their part in McBride's death and Zee is convicted for his part in McBride's death.
sorry for the long post; I'm now off to do my assignment.

I saw that episode and Jamie did a great job. He looks very different from his Archie days, less soft and more matured. His American accent was quite good and the story kept me captivated.

I'm all for a bit of macho escapism now and again, so I like Ultimate Force. Jamie however, plays a thoroughly decent chap, who's a kind of wet Archie. Any body seen it? (it's a series about the SAS).

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Marian, for your long post. Enjoyed it a lot! :hug
I have never seen Ultimate force with Jamie. Wanted to order the boxes, but there are 4 or 5 season. And I believed that Jamie only played in 1 or 2 seasons. Does anyone know? I understand the series wasn't that great, so I don't want to spend my money if Jamie is not in it... Makes sense, no?
Male escapism? Find that every day on my tv, now that the tv bosses have decided to throw 'The A-team' in it's 10.829th re-run! (mildly exaggerated )

I actually like UF for a bit of escapism, Sylviane. yes, Jamie was only in at the beginning, so I wouldn't buy the box unless you enjoy alot of special forces action. I find the relationships between the men interesting and I have to admit to having a smidgeon of a thing for Ross Kemp (he was my favourite character in Eastenders).
Jamie plays a posh but thoroughly decent officer - termed a 'Rupert' in the British Army - who effectively takes the fall for the 'team' to preserve their anonimity and togetherness. ross plays a much more attractive character (to me anyway) who equates more to jamie's Apollo in BSG.
Catch it on cable if you can, but I wouldn't bust a gut!

Deja vu in the style of HH? Don't tell me: he gets shot! (If this is true I will scream!)
I don't know yet, maybe I will buy the first series or something. The chances of getting to see the actual series on Dutch TV are something close to nothing. Will consider it. Birthday coming up, so who knows :?:

:rotf: Sylviane. No, he doesn't get shot. He effectively gets the sack! The rest of the team know's that he has sacrificed his career for them and the sceen where he leaves is qite poignant..... :crying
Sylviane- 05-21-2007
Awwww! Now I really want to see it! Where's my birthdaylist and the adress of Amazon?
Thanks for telling me, Stevie, I'm not sure I can handle seeing him die, again....
He's getting very skilled at it though, dying shots.

Wow I didn't realise Jamie was in Ultimate Force if they repeat the series on sky I think I might have a look at the first series. I probabaly have already posted this but did anyone else catch the new series of The Last Detective? he was in the first episode of that and played his role really well
Sylviane- 05-21-2007
It's done! Just ordered Ultimate Force series 1+2 at Amazone.co.uk. Should have it by the end of next week. I checked first which episodes are with Jamie and which were on the DVD boxes. Besides I saw some listing made by a fan, who ordered series 1 upto 3 and who states that Jamie is only in series 1+2. So I go with that. Added bonus is that on series 2 is also an episode with Dorian Healy (HH's Mr Simpson) Not in an episode together with Jamie unfortunately. Wouldn't that have been fun?
Will let you know what I think of it after I've seen it.

Sylviane, you should have come over to the dark side at www.jamiebamber.co.uk forum to ask about Ultimate Force!
As stated, Jamie is only in Series 1 and 2. He unfortunately plays a bit of a back character, not overly central. Jamie does not appear in every episode of Series 1 (I can't remember how many) and only the first episode of Series 2. As a Jamie fan it was a little disappointing for him.
Jamie's role in The Last Detective was good, and I'm still yet to see Jamie in his Cold Case and The Ghost Whisperer episodes.
Cheers

Same in Italy, where you can see SciFi either on SciFi cable channels or you have to stay up late at night.
