This may be a little off-topic these days, but it seems the credit crunch has hit one of Ioan's previous causes. Remember the fight to keep the Burberry factory in Wales, open?

Ouch, another Burberry factory in the UK closing...
Anybody knows if it is closing due to the current crisis or if Burberry is moving manufacture elsewhere?
A phenomenon that we're seeing in Italy is that there are companies closing factories down or slowing production down because they can't sell as much as they used to, while others are bringing production back to Italy because of poor quality issues in the countries where they had moved their factories to save money.
Poor quality issues, or rather human rights issues are affecting the big cheap fashion chains here (although one could never describe Burberry as 'cheap' ) Cheap clothes come at a high human price, is the message.
It is my impression that Burberry is moving it's manufacturing elsewhere. It remains a very popular brand, particularly its trademark beige 'tartan' (and particularly among Chavs :???: although fakes abound! )
Ha, what we've seen here is that it was not just cheap clothes chains that moved factories where labour is cheap. Unfortunately, the money saved on labour doesn't necessarily reflect on the price customers pay for goods, not proportionally at least.
So besides human rights issues, the problem is that you might have found yourself buying goods whose quality was not what you expected for the price you paid.
I'm sorry that this factory got closed.
Ioan must be sad about it.
