Ioan On History Channel
Credit Goes To My Irish Sister. THC Classroom: The Christmas Truce. - Tuesday, December 18, 2007 ... World War One began in August 1914, and by December all optimistic thoughts of quick victory had faded. The most fierce fighting took place in a thin strip of land called the Western Front. A system of trenches separated Allies from Germans, with the area in between known as No Man's Land. On Christmas Eve, an astonishing event began--up and down the Western Front, Allied and German soldiers met peacefully in No Man's Land. Actor Ioan Gruffud narrates this look at the fabled Christmas truce, filled with eyewitness accounts. http://www.history.com/shows.do?action=detail&episodeId=254827 The History Channel - Weekly... - http://www.history.com/schedule.do?action=weekly

Sounds interesting. I hope someone will be able to catch this programme next week. Thanks for the heads-up, Annee.

StevieT- 12-12-2007

Sorry, I'm being totally dumb here, but I couldn't see the details. I have the History Channel and hopefully will watch the programme if someone could give this idiot the day and time????

muvidlover- 12-12-2007

I don't know the schedule for your area Stevie, but in the States The Christmas Truce will be shown at these times (Eastern): The History Channel Tues, 12/18, 6:00am Mon, 12/24, 10:00am, 4:00pm History-International Channel Tues, 12/25, 1:00pm, 7:00pm I'll try to capture a little video clip so people who don't have these channels can at least hear some of Ioan's narration. It's a wonderful story.

I viewed it recently and was very touched by the story. Makes you realize that if war's decisions were left to the soldiers on the front lines, wars might end more quickly.

HilJohn- 12-13-2007

Thank you for posting the schedule, muvid! Saves me from having to look it up. I'll be watching ...

muvidlover- 12-13-2007

You're welcome Hilary. (times from Zap2it)

muvidlover- 12-18-2007

There wasn't much interest in posting a clip but I decided to go ahead with it anyway. This is the first minute of The Christmas Truce with Ioan narrating (5mb). http://www.mediafire.com/?fb4pdmjmysv

Sylviane- 12-18-2007

Awww, now I want to see the rest, too... Why do we get stuck with silly docs when something like this is so beautifull... ;angry: I knew the story, it's lovely.

Frances- 12-18-2007

Thanks for the clip, Muvidlover. I downloaded it and will watch it as soon as possible.

muvidlover- 12-18-2007

Thanks Sylviane and Frances. I plan to watch the entire program/tape tonight although I've seen it years ago.

Sylviane- 12-18-2007

Any chance you can show more of the documentary, Muvidlover?

muvidlover- 12-18-2007

Any chance you can show more of the documentary, Muvidlover? I would love to be able to render the entire docudrama to video, divide it up and put the parts on youtube. However the History Channel warning is quite explicit that the program be copied for educational purposes only (and then the tape destroyed after one year). I think the Zone is often educational but that's probably not what they had in mind. I would hope they'd ignore my teeny one-minute clip. :hide2:

I think the Zone is often educational but that's probably not what they had in mind. I would hope they'd ignore my teeny one-minute clip. :hide2: I see your point. Well, too bad. Maybe we get to see on DVD one of these days.

muvidlover- 12-19-2007

I see your point. Well, too bad. Maybe we get to see on DVD one of these days. I hope so too, Sylviane! Edited to add: The DVD is available at amazon.co.uk, but you would need equipment which plays region 1/NTSC formatted discs.
