I think the "disheveled " quote came from The TV Set commentary, if I remember correctly. And yes, i quite agree, he looks charming either well-hevelled or disheveled.

Lovely Ioan finnaly made it!!
I think it was lovely that Alice recited a self-penned poem to him during the ceremony. Very Romantic!

Sounds like he may be in Cardiff for the Hogmanay (okay, mixed Celtic nations there, but you know what I mean  ) Pity I can't get SC4, it would have been nice to see the New Year in with Welshboy

This is random, but Katherine Jenkins is gorgeous.
StevieT- 12-31-2007
I totally agree, Zoo! And what a voice!!!!!She sang at the Festival of Remembrance in the Royal Albert Hall and reduced me to tears.

Our only hope is now that someone puts it on YouTube or something.... :???:
I would have really liked to see Matthew. Especially if he decides to sing. No, perhaps he'd better stick to acting... alltough.... :dunno We know Ioan can sing... As for Matthew....
 IF the rumors on Brothers & Sisters are true. Matthew's character Kevin will be singing Elvis Presley's 'Always on my mind' to his boyfriend Scotty in a karaoke bar..... I was impressed when I read that. I mean for the Welsh boy to sing an Elvis song on American television... If he fails, he'll get lynched by Elvis fans...He's got b.... ahm... confidence!.. :happy

Huh?? Time for another cultural lesson! Must never stop learning ... gotta keep those brain cells active ... stave off dementia (a personal worry for me).
What's involved with "Hogmanay"? Does one eat or drink strange things??
Frances- 12-31-2007
Thanks for the heads-up, Annee. I hope some UK Yo-Zoners can get SC4 and have a glimpse of Ioan tonight (and that the clip will end up on YouTube  ).

Hogmanay is the Scottish celebration of New Year., Hil. It is traditionally a more important time than Christmas in Scotland. My Mum always opened her gifts on New Year's day as a child.
I suppose Rabbie Burns (he being the author of Auld Lang's Syne) has a lot to answer for, but some customs are rooted in Celtic lore; like 'First Footing' where the first person to knock on your door after midnight turns, is supposed to be a dark-headed stranger and carry a piece of coal. This blesses the house he enters and is of course contrived to occur these days. (Up at my relatives in Kilmarnock, neighbours would 'knock on' each other, hoping they were strange enough.
As for eating and drinking - no-one does it better than the Scots! Haggis features, of course (yuck!) and plenty of whisky and stout. Dancing of course with flying kilts.
I have not had a Hogmanay in Scotland since I was a teenager, but I'm sure it's still as much fun. Happy Hogmanay all!

Learn something new everyday. Stevie, are you getting to your town's celebration that you mentioned.

Gee, Hogmanay was what my husband talked to me tonight about at our 5-course New Years Eve dinner  It intrigued him so much, he did a lot of researh. Too bad I'm still up after not making New Years Eve
StevieT- 01-01-2008
 Did your hubby's research include a kilt, Havoc? And did he like the stogies?

That we did, GG! And a good time was had by all (despite a drenching!). I forgot to take my camera  and don't think I'd have had room to use it, anyway, but I will try and glean some pics from the local press site.
HilJohn- 01-01-2008
Flying kilts sound like fun. So does whisky. But NOT Haggis. Uh-huh, no way. That's up there with blowfish for food items I will never willingly sample.

I'd love to see pictures if you find them. Or even some of your old ones from a Hogmanay. Our NY's Eve was subdued - food - Margaritas - talking - The ball dropping - Home and Bed.
UCLA lost, so now I'm supposed to go watch USC win. Bleck!
Frances- 01-01-2008
My NY's Eve was subdued, too. I went to a peace march as I've been doing each NY's Eve for 10 years. I think that it was just the mulled wine and the hot tea and chocolate that were offered at the end that kept me from freezing, but it was good.
