I love this mention from coconutgreentea. :)
Ioan Gruffudd, Horatio Hornblower
Well before Arthur - in a manner of speaking - before Bosinney and Mr Fantastic, there was Horatio Hornblower. Ioan Gruffudd cuts a dashing figure as Horatio, a naval officer in His Majesty's service during the Napoleonic Wars. Adapted from C.S. Forester's series of novels with a goodly number of fictional, colourful characters thrown in, each of the 8 episodes is an adventure in itself. Not swashbuckling in the Pirates sense, I think it still holds a certain appeal, the fun, the thrills and spills. Speaking as an utterly detached audience, of course. I will think always first of gallant, "punctilious" Lieutenant Hornblower rather than Mr. Fantastic, altho he really was fantastic there.
On another note, I'm suddenly brought to mind of The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle. I wonder where I left my copy. And of The Magic Faraway Tree, and the various Famous Five and Secret Seven.

Very nice mention, indeed! I must say that I agree with the blogger.
Thanks Annee. That is a nice blog about the characters Ioan has played.
Best wishes to the another couple who will get married in Mexico. :)
The paper says the couple are due to fly to Mexico Thursday, in anticipation of their Saturday event at the One&Only Palmilla resort – whose Web site says of the plush oasis: "The purity and beauty throughout the grounds of One&Only Palmilla allows for a variety of intimate celebration venues."
Others who have wed there include Fantastic Four star Ioan Gruffudd and British actress Alice Evans last September, and, in April 2006, Rascal Flatts lead guitarist Joe Don Rooney and Tiffany Fallon, Playboy's 2005 Playmate of the Year.

Um. yeah! Way to endorse your wedding venue!!!! ( :tsk tsk: General, were you about to mention a certain bride who would probably aspire to being Playmat - er, mate ) of the Year? Who? Me? No! Never!)
Ioan parties with the Becks and Company. :)
I Wanna Be A Celeb! I Wanna Be A Celeb! I Wanna Be A Celeb!
Also on hand was Sharon Osbourne, Fantastic Four’s Welsh hottie Ioan Gruffudd, original supermodel Cheryl Tiegs and lovebirds Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger.

Thanks,Annee, for those nice mentions. Too bad we couldn't get a hot picture of the Welsh hottie, huh?!
I would have preferred seeing some footage of Ioan, too. Oh well ! Good he's getting mentioned in those situations. I guess FF did him some good that way, even though we know he has given many more incredible performances he could be known for.
I'll join you, GG and Shipmate, in saying that I would have liked to see a pic or some footage of Ioan, but his being mentioned in those situations is an indication of a growing fame.
Griff and Gruff are mentioned together in this article. I did not know Jamie might have played HH.
He gained acceptance to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and began working with "a sort of prospective agent" who submitted him for a role in a small film. The film was being cast by England-based Hubbard Casting, which was also working on a TV adaptation of C.S. Forester's Horatio Hornblower novels. " said, 'We've got this Hornblower thing; would you like to do that?'" recalls Bamber.
The actor ended up -*test*-('")ing for the title part, which ultimately went to Ioan Gruffudd. Bamber, however, was assured that he had -*test*-('")ed well and was cast in what was supposed to be a one-shot role as Hornblower cohort Archie Kennedy. "I went in to do the read-through before the job started, and apparently I gave a decent read-through, and off of that they decided to turn it into a recurring role," he says. "It was an amazing experience for me." Bamber ended up appearing in several of the made-for-TV Hornblower movies, which introduced him to audiences in the U.K. and the States.

Yes, Jamie was up for the role, but it's clear that Ioan is much more physically like Horatio. Goes without saying that we're all glad they extended Jamie's role, though, eh?
Annee, who's Griff? :dunno
Annee, who's Griff? :dunno
Jamie: Jamie St John Bamber (his mother) Griffith (his father). He uses her mother's surname. :)
Her sister is Anastasia GRIFFITH.
Hence: Griff And Gruff - Gruff And Griff.
Ooooookaaaayyyyy! Weird, but whatever rocks your boat, I guess!
