I was impressed when I read that. I mean for the Welsh boy to sing an Elvis song on American television... If he fails, he'll get lynched by Elvis fans...He's got b.... ahm... confidence!.. :happy

Does one eat or drink strange things?? Hogmanay is the Scottish celebration of New Year., Hil. It is traditionally a more important time than Christmas in Scotland. My Mum always opened her gifts on New Year's day as a child. I suppose Rabbie Burns (he being the author of Auld Lang's Syne) has a lot to answer for, but some customs are rooted in Celtic lore; like 'First Footing' where the first person to knock on your door after midnight turns, is supposed to be a dark-headed stranger and carry a piece of coal. This blesses the house he enters and is of course contrived to occur these days. (Up at my relatives in Kilmarnock, neighbours would 'knock on' each other, hoping they were strange enough. As for eating and drinking - no-one does it better than the Scots! Haggis features, of course (yuck!) and plenty of whisky and stout. Dancing of course with flying kilts. I have not had a Hogmanay in Scotland since I was a teenager, but I'm sure it's still as much fun. Happy Hogmanay all!

Gee, Hogmanay was what my husband talked to me tonight about at our 5-course New Years Eve dinner :roll: It intrigued him so much, he did a lot of researh. I'd love to see pictures if you find them. Or even some of your old ones from a Hogmanay. Our NY's Eve was subdued - food - Margaritas - talking - The ball dropping - Home and Bed. UCLA lost, so now I'm supposed to go watch USC win. Bleck!

My NY's Eve was subdued, too. I went to a peace march as I've been doing each NY's Eve for 10 years. I think that it was just the mulled wine and the hot tea and chocolate that were offered at the end that kept me from freezing, but it was good.

Thanks To My Irish Sister. I enjoyed this MovieGuide Report and thought to share it. The first visit was coupled with the MovieGuide awards which we attended as guests, not nominees. As wonderful as it was for Graham to win last year, this time we were able to relax and enjoy the fun. The gal who won second place for the Kairos Award last year was also there again. We had a great time catching up with her and meeting the this year's nominees. We also got a chance to walk around Beverly Hills before the event and during the show met a few more celebrities (Stephen Baldwin and Ioan Gruffudd & fiancée Alice Evans. I remember that dress Alice wore, it was beautiful. I also remember what was happening around that time last year, or what was soon going to happen anyway. That wasn't long before everything went pear-shaped.
