Ioan gets all Classical!
This originally came as a Google Alert....... Classic Serial: Something Fresh Radio 4, Sunday 3pm Martin Jarvis and Rosalind Ayres are the team behind this latest PG Wodehouse revival for radio, a new adaptation of the author’s first Blandings novel. Jarvis plays the absent-minded Earl of Emsworth, who accidentally pockets a priceless gem belonging to the American father of his son’s fiancée. Thus begins a typical Wodehouse farce that is peppered with star names: Ian Ogilvy, Ioan Gruffudd, Helen McCrory, Jill Gascoine, Joanne Whalley and renowned US actor Hector Elizondo as millionaire J. Preston Peters. http://blogs.thestage.co.uk/tvtoday/2009/03/turn-off-the-tv-whats-on-radio-march-28-april-3/ But when I opened my Radio times today, it was to see this........(keep clicking on the image and it will magnify) I'm working Sunday,;angry: but will catch the repeat on Saturday. I remember Hector from my all-time favourite hospital drama Chicago Hope (and of course, Century City - a reunion for him and Ioan!)

Hey,doesn't that sound like fun! Radio is such a fun way of stretching the imagination! Wish we all could hear it,Stevie. I know Ioan's voice will carry beautifully throughout. Let us know how it was, hmm?

Gaffer'sGirl- 03-27-2009

Maybe we'll be able to hear it online. I know some radio stations here put their programin online. Maybe we will luck out. *** Went and looked and it does appear that programs stay on the BBC Radio 4 site for seven days after release and can be downloaded. Perhaps you can hear it at the library with headphones, Ship.

I've just finished listening to "Something Fresh" - Part One -------- and it is delightful!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope that more of you out there will take advantage of this fine radio broadcast! It's great, and Ioan is giving a lovely performance. Be sure to catch his imitation of a cat-fight!!!!!!! It's SOOOO funny! See what you think, lots of fun, can't wait for Part Two now......................

Gaffer'sGirl- 04-01-2009

I started listening and then got interrupted. What I heard, I really enjoyed. Hope to finish reading it tonight.

Shipmate- 04-03-2009

I may listen to it again before it goes off. I'll pay closer attention to the story and details this time!! :whistle Go,Welshboy,go! :Wales

Gaffer'sGirl- 04-03-2009

I'll have to try to do it tonight as I work in about an hour. Can't wait to hear the cat fight, I'd imagine he can do great sound effects. He has such vocal control and it would seem he'd have fun with that.

Shipmate- 04-03-2009

It really struck me funny. Hard to keep a straight face at THAT,no kidding! He's really good at it.

StevieT- 04-05-2009

HaHa! Finally caught the first Episode yesterday....such a joy! :applaud: Ioan has the accent down pat. I had no trouble imagining the "fit young man" doing his Swedish exercises......

Gaffer'sGirl- 04-05-2009

Oh my goodness! I thought that was so funny, too. The cat sounds were hilarious also and so well done. I'm glad I went back and listened to the whole thing. Can't wait for the next episode. I wonder if they did it in studio together or if each recorded a part separately and then it was edited. I'd like to hope they were able to play off each other, but you never know with media possibilities these days.

StevieT- 04-05-2009

I was wondering that too, GG! Maybe he did it while in the UK to talk about The Kid???? :fingcross: And isn't it easy to imagine our favourite Welshboy expressions, just from the little noises?

Gaffer'sGirl- 04-05-2009

Oh yes! His face can be more expressive than most. One of the things I like about him. We can only hope that the possibilites of his role in The Kid is advancing. Seems to me he's had a few roles that he has actually shot without word until after it is finished, so who knows. I think Meant To Be's and Agent Crush were kind of that way more recently. Perhaps because of the changeability of the industry roles aren't always announced until they are in the can.

You can listen to a podcast interview with Martin Jarvis, director of Something Fresh, as he talks about recording the show at the Invisible Studios in LA (guess Ioan just had to walk around the corner in West Hollyood!). Other interesting chat too.... Part One:- http://www.productionbank.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/vr-jarvis-foley-interview.mp3 Part Two:- http://www.productionbank.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/vr-jarvis-foley-interview-part-2.mp3

Frances- 04-06-2009

Thanks, Stevie. I downloaded the interview and I will listen to it as soon as possible.

Gaffer'sGirl- 04-07-2009

That was interesting to hear him talk about foleying. I've done just a little and it can be tough. Did you have any experience with Foleying in Theater, Stevie? Judging from the date on this interview, I'd guess Ioan recorded Something Fresh late last year. Ioan sure did his sound effects well in Part One. Can't wait to see Part Two. The interview answers the question about whether or not they were altogether when it was recorded or if it was cobbled together. It actually sounds like it would have been a lot of fun for an actor.
