Into the Wild
Someone who saw it, please, explain to me why I should like Sean Penn's "Into the Wild".
Yesterday night, I went to an open air screening of this movie because I missed it when it was first released and I found it dreadfully boring, in spite of its great photography and good acting performances.
Unfortunately (forunately?) I haven't seen this one, Frances, and i don't thik I will now. It sounds like a glorified nature documentary and there are so many excellent ones of those around already.....
I didn't care for it either. I thought it was the story of a very self indulgent young man who made a very stupid choice.
In fact, though they are trying to make the main character look almost like a 'Messianic' figure, I think he was just a young man who made a very stupid choice.
Yes, it appeared there were many people in his life who cared about him and tried to warn him off his course. I felt as though he had a nervous breakdown after college rather than an enlightenment, so I felt there was some mental illness involved in his decisions. Basically, didn't care for it. I think Sean Penn tried to show him as a free spirit and admirable, rather than the troubled young man he appears to have been.
