Someone spotted Welshboy being all domesticated yesterday......(sadly, no pic :no no
"Ioan Gruffudd and Alice Evans, grocery shopping at Hollywood’s Trader Joe’s on Friday, January 16, 2009. The “Fantastic Four” Actor pushed his shopping car around while his wife loaded it up with grapes, water and dried mangoes. They looked really happy together, loading their paper-bagged-purchases into their vehicle."

Good to see Ioan "going paper" instead of plastic these days. Go Welshboy!!!!!

I wish I could "go paper", too, but only plastic bags seems to be available in grocery stores in my area these days, unless you are willing to split your purchases in countless small bags.

Ah! But Trader Joe's offers re-usuable plastic or cloth bags. (They've done both.) Much better for the environment. Biggest problem for most people is remembering to bring them in the store with you. Mine are ususally left in the car or at home.
By the way, if you've never been to a Trader Joe's, you are missing out on a fun shopping experience. Healthy food and good deals. There used to be three within a couple of miles of where I lived. Now the nearest is an hour drive and a ferry ride away. It is a required stop any time we cross over the water.

Our big supermarkets offer 'bags for life' too, which are heavier, recycled plastic designed to be used many times, but as you say GG, - my drawers are stuffed full of them, but do I remember to take them with me when I go shopping??????
Paper bags for groceries has never caught on over here. Primark (cheap fashion) is really the only shop that uses them and the handles invariably fall off before you get home........

There is one supermarket who offered paper bags last year. Of course they are not so strong. And I also forget to bring them in the store with me.
As for Ioan, yes he is very domesticated. I wonder if people leave him alone when he and Alice are shopping.

All the supermarkets where I'm from will only use recyclable bags so if you forget to bring them you're out of luck. It was annoying at first but now I never forget them.

I have always wondered if, in places like Hollywood, etc, people are generally more laid back about seeing celebrities, as they are more familiar with them. But then the paparazzi thing seems to suggest not......

There are supermarkets (and smaller shops) over here offering cloth bags (actually, they're selling them) that can be used over and over again. I have some, but I often forget to bring them with me when I go shopping. Then there are times when I pick plastic bags (which should be made of a biodegradable kind of plastic) on purpose to carry my purchases because I can use plastic bags from shops as bin liners.

Well, there may be two sides to the same coin. I guess that people will generally leave celebrities alone in Hollywood/LA (they may be used to see them), but then paparazzi may concentrate in places where they know they are very likely to run into a celebrity they can take pictures of that they can later sell.

Hello. :)
Here in Corsica we do not have anymore plastic white thin bags.
They sell solid plastic bags and paper bags.
It's quite new and we often forget them in the car! Heeee
About celebrities and their everyday life, I WISH paparazzi were more "active" with Ioan. Indeed we rarely see him. :(

Here they are talking about charging people each time they use the thin plastic bags or giving a discount for reusables.
My experience living in L.A. was twenty years ago, but at that time it was very uncool for locals to bother celebrities, especially someplace like a grocery store. Sometimes if it was someone you really admired you might strike ask for an autograph or picture, but that was rare. If a local did it, you would say they were acting like a tourist. Orange County was kind of the same way, but you didn't see them quite as often. However that may all have changed.
When I drove for an airport shuttle, I picked up an actor that I was familiar with, he flagged me down in the Hollywood Hills where he had been waiting for a cab. He was off to go skiing. I told him I had two ladies to pick up and he was fine with that. He even got out and helped me put the luggage in the van. On the way to the airport, all three had a nice conversation about skiing and locations. All the while, I didn't let on that I knew who he was. When I let him off at the airport, I let him know that I liked and watched the show he was on and that I probably wouldn't have stopped for him, if I hadn't recognized him. He was glad I did and handled it the way I did. Once I was back in the van, I asked the Ladies if they had recognized him. They hadn't. So, I tipped them off to who he was and his show. I felt it gave them a chance for a nice conversation about life and things other than acting.

This guy (I think) has an interesting take on vintage "guy movies" and would include Horatio. I loved this comment....
I also possess some of the Horatio Hornblower films with Ioan Gruffudd. These don't really meet my criteria, since they were produced after 1980, and they were not intended for theatrical exhibition. Nevertheless, they are excellent Guy Movies of the sort I'm talking about. (Until you've seen them, you won't understand the debt which Star Trek owes to the Hornblower books.)

Though I dream of a world where movies are divided into good and bad movies rather than into guy movies and chick flicks, the article is interesting to read. Nice find, thanks for sharing, Stevie.

I'm glad it's not just the ladies who enjoy the HH movies. Now they're are guys' movies. Little does he know, huh ladies? It is a nice blog. Thanks.
