THANKS for the link Annee! :hug Good job! I'm wondering what this person have to say about Ioan!! And yes, is Ioan just having a reallllly small role? Would be bad. He needs stronger roles if he wants his career to "take off". I'm waiting VERY MUCH with impatience his movie "Moon Princess" where he has a more important part, I think. :)

That is a nice commentary on The TV Set. Although I did wonder about the comment about Ioan being British. Does the writer not know that he is from Britain? Could be she's only familiar with his American roles like FF and was surprised at how good his British accent is  .

Nice commentary on The TV Set! Thanks for sharing. Although I did wonder about the comment about Ioan being British. Does the writer not know that he is from Britain? Could be she's only familiar with his American roles like FF and was surprised at how good his British accent is  . Honestly, I don't know how to interpret that comment about Ioan being "totally British" and wonder whether the writer doesn't know Ioan is British and, therefore, she is surprised at how convincing he is in depicting a British character, or whether she knows he is British and she is surprised at how British he still is though he's been living (and working) in the US for years.

Maybe there are people who don't realise Wales is part of Britain? In fact England and Wales are the two most closely linked of the UK countries - Scotland and Northern Ireland have more independence from London. I remember a silmilar conversation over on IMDB about how good Jamie Bamber's British accent was  I think it's interesting how we assume that everyone has all the details we do about our favourite actors. What's the word for us, then? 'Ioancentric'?

Gaffer'sGirl- 07-24-2008

Ioancentric sounds about right, Stevie. I think most of us think of actors in whatever way we saw them first. Which may be why an American accent coming from Ioan can sound odd to those of us who knew him first from his British roles. I've met a few people who saw him first in FF and didn't realize he wasn't American.

I think it's interesting how we assume that everyone has all the details we do about our favourite actors. What's the word for us, then? 'Ioancentric'? Yes, 'Ioancentric' is a good word for us. Actually, I was thinking about my surprise at that blogger not knowing that Ioan is British and then realized that I know a lot about Ioan, but there are fans of other actors that may be as surprised at how little I know about their favourite actor(s). There are many actors that I saw in a movie/TV series or another - and sometimes I even thought they were good -, but never cared to get to know much about them. I guess I should try and figure out what prompts me to learn more about an actor... I'm not sure acting skills are all that there is to it... :hmm:

I'm sure that's part of it, Frances, but I think plain old hormones have a lot to do with it too, in a lot of cases. It would be interesting to know what determines what we each find attractive in another person and why some people just float our boats?

Gaffer'sGirl- 07-24-2008

That is the wonder of it all, isn't it? It's not pheromones because we can't smell him. There are men I can look at and say they are absolutely handsome, but they have no appeal to me. It's hard to say what it is exactly. With Ioan, I think it's part of something (be it joy, exhuberance for life, or upbringing ) within him that spills out through his personality and on his face. Wish we could bottle it.

StevieT- 07-25-2008

I know they say "If you've got it, flaunt it!" but I think what drew me first to Ioan was the way he most definitely had it, but didn't seem to flaunt it. He's mcuh happier to let it show tiese days, which doesn't always work in his favour - same for evryone, I suppose, when confidence grows with age.....

Shipmate- 07-25-2008

I agree,Stevie, when someone is as attractive, charming, handsome, and doesn't really know it that much---that's what drew me most about him. I really think he still has quite a lot of that quality down inside yet.

Gaffer'sGirl- 07-25-2008

I suppose as time passes and you hear people comment positively on certain looks as being sexy or appealing, it would be foolish to ignore those things as an actor. It may help you get your next job. Much like mannerisms that we recognize, the average person looking at pictures of him wouldn't recognize that the look on his face is similar to another picture that was well liked. Perhaps that's why the natural, unposed look seems fresher to us. We've just studied his visage too often. :tsk tsk: :bricks . We can never study his face too much, can we?

Shipmate- 07-25-2008

No,never. Could "study" it a loooooonnnnng time, me thinks!

StevieT- 07-30-2008

This excerpt from a blog on W raised a giggle at my end...... "Then we come to Ioan Gruffudd's portrayal of Tony Blair, which makes you wonder whether Alastair Campbell had a hand in the casting, because, with due respect, Tone, Ioan's younger, better-looking and has a more expensive dentist than you. And his hair looks oddly blonde, too, but perhaps that's just the halo... Seriously, couldn't they just have asked Michael Sheen to do it again?" http://greatepicurean.blogspot.com/2008/07/bush-movie.html

Shipmate- 07-30-2008

:rotf: This IS funny,General. Like the crack about the dentist.

Gaffer'sGirl- 07-30-2008

Ioan is all those things, isn't he? It will be interesting to see if his hair looks blond in a longer clip or if it is more grayish. Make-up people sure seem to have a tough time with putting gray in Ioan's hair (think FF). Guess we won't know until we can see more than just a snip.
