Interesting Blog Mention
This blogger makes an interesting point about gay and straight actors, 'tho I'm pretty sure Stephen is not seen much in acting because his heart lies more in other stuff - he's an exceedingly creative individual.
I found Ioan very recognisable (if a little disconcerting  ) with his long hair.

Sometimes I wonder about the age of bloggers as probably as little as 10 years before Wilde was filmed there was much more stigma for any actor to play a gay character. Some don't seem aware of that.
Can't say as I like Ioan's hair in Wilde, though he has fairly long hair in A Relative Stranger, Poldark and Strange Territory and I didn't mind it so in those.

As for this blogger in particular and if the user info are anything to by, this blog seems to be held by 42-year-old from Singapore. However, I also wonder whether some people are aware of the stigma for an any actor to play a gay character that was there till very recently and is partly still there.

I can't say either that I like Ioan's hair in Wilde, though I quite liked his longish hair in Poldark.
Ioan's hair was too bushy in "Wilde". Maybe it was a little too long. But it did look just sooooo fine in the other films.........mmmmmmmmm!
I don't think the funny little fez cap did him any favors either.
Frances, thanks for looking that info up. I didn't take a very close look at the blogger's info. Hmmm! Well, so much for my theory, but you are correct, some are not aware of the concerns playing a role like that could cause some actors not that long ago.
Well, your theory may still hold up, GG. I think that the stigma placed on actors for playing gay characters - or the awareness of this stigma - depends on the culture as well as on the age of those who are looking at the issue. Perhaps there are cultures where there was less of a stigma for an actor to play a gay character.
