Gift bags are great. So much easier to get to the goodies inside! The only problem is when it's a bridal shower ... all the ribbons and bows are generally used to make a mock bouquet for the rehersal, but with gift bags, there aren't enough ribbons and bows!

Gaffer'sGirl- 11-29-2007

I'll gladly throw an extra bow in my gift bag to resolve that problem.

I can certainly speak to the giftwrapping side of things! I worked for thirteen years in a customer service/ giftwrap dept. at a department store until four years ago. Oh, the stuff I could tell ya!! We handmade our bows from bolts of ribbon, and I was put in charge of the wrap display board that the public would choose their package wrappings from. Ooooooo.....what a job!!! Glad it's part of my past! GG, I converted to the "gift bag persuasion" a long time ago myself, believe me!!!

Hey Matie - I bet we can swap! I worked at a Hallmark shop for a little while in between my junior and senior years in high school. They not only wanted perfect wrapping - but it had to be done in about 20 seconds.

I'm usually a courteous customer - I add that I usually know what I need or want to buy when I get into shop - and I promise that I won't be demanding when it comes to gift wrappings from now on.

Ooooooo.....what a job!!! Glad it's part of my past! GG, I converted to the "gift bag persuasion" a long time ago myself, believe me!!! Must be like a maid with a dirty house or a teacher whose kids' homework doesn't get finished on time or an accountant with an unbalanced checkbook. Even if you love your job, you don't want to do it at home and if you hate it! Look out! I used to make about 20 to 30 gift baskets for clients with homemade cookies every year. Do you think a friend outside of work ever got one of those beautiful baskets? Forget it. And I even enjoyed doing it.

Hahahahaha! I just thought about the times I had to wrap 36" tv sets-----by myself on Christmas Eve!!! Actually, stuff like that happened MORE than just once. Didn't have none of them there gift bags big enough for those babies, let me tell you!!! Can you say H-E-R-N-I-A?.........

I don't think there are stores over here offering or accepting to wrap something that big, it is up to customers to wrap them, if they wish.

StevieT- 12-02-2007

Anyone want to buy me a 36" TV? I don't care if it isn't wrapped.......

Frances- 12-02-2007

 I wouldn't mind either if it isn't wrapped, if someone bought me a 36" TV. Actually, I am just waiting for the prices of large-screen LCD or plasma TV sets to drop to a reasonable sum before buying one myself or ask someone to buy one for me.

HilJohn- 12-02-2007

Not only would I not want my 36' TV unwrapped, I'd also like it out of the box with none of the packing foam and plastic in sight! Just the TV on the shelf, already hooked up to everything, with a nice, big bow on top.

Gaffer'sGirl- 12-02-2007

I'm with you there, Hil. My TV sits on a cedar chest and I have to move it every year to get to some Christmas storage. I think I'd like a light weight flat screen, but I'm not ready to spend the bucks for HD, yet.

Shipmate- 12-03-2007

Believe me, I tried, and tried hard, to dissuade that customer from getting the monster wrapped.......but, nay,.......and with a pretty bow,too........and I didn't even get a gratuity either!!!.......(sniff,sniff)..............but THAT'S Christmas!!!!!.......................Hoho-hoi.............

Frances- 12-03-2007

I guess it is hard to dissuade a customer that they won't get very large items wrapped, if that's what they have in mind, unless the "no gift wrapping of items over a certain size" is a clearly stated store policy. Personally, I'd insist on the delivery (and possibly the installation) of a monster like a 36" TV set rather than its wrapping.

Shipmate- 12-03-2007

Me too, Frances, I struggled so with that THING, that finally a lovely, strong stockboy came by and helped me...........when I was almost finished.......never again, NEVER again.......and, I didn't either!!! Too,too much for a lone person to do!!!
