I'm looking forward to this film too. I'm going to have to do a little homework before I see it----cuz I don't know that much about the storyline. What I've heard sounds good though. JD looks striking in the commercial clips, doesn't he?

Besides Depp being a great actor. I've been a fan since 21JumpStreet and wore my Cry Baby hat with pride when I ran, but I do think Depp's longstanding working relationship with Tim Burton probably had some influence on casting. I'm sure Denis Quilley did an excellent job on stage, but Hollywood so rarely casts a stage actor in a movie role if they are not well known. Hugh Jackman is a major exception, but did he gain fame as a movie actor or stage actor first? Ioan most likely could have done the accent and songs justice. The biggest problem is his fame is not to the level of Johnny Depp to carry the film. Give him a few years and maybe.

As long as Ioan sings, I´m happy. But I must admit that I´m not a big fan of musicals and that kind of stuff. So, personally, I´ll prefer if He stays in the Drama kind of films.

I was re-watching "The Great Gatsby" the other night, and started to think about Ioan in the title role. He would be sooooooo sexy and brooding for it, I think. Wonder who could be his "Daisy"?

Frances- 01-07-2008

Yep, Ioan would make a great Gatsby in the "The Great Gatsby". I don't know if you have a particular actress in mind for the role of Daisy, but I think Kate Winslet would make a good one.

Gaffer'sGirl- 01-07-2008

Great choice, Ship. Hmmm! Have to ponder who would make a complimentary Daisy. Maybe Kate Winslett. I know she's not American, but then neither is he. But they both do well playing characters from another era. Ok. How funny, I either didn't see your answer Frances or we posted at the same time. Brilliant minds think alike.

Which is exactly why no one thinks like me, my mind is just too brilliant to try and match. LOL. I wanna see Ioan play something cool, like a wire walker. Although, there's not much call for human circus movies in Hollywood... They're my obsession at the moment, human circuses. The wire walkers in particular, they are so talented and...cool.

Ioan in tights. I like that image. Bring them back! Bring them back! Make a unique movie. There were a few circus movies in the late 50's -early 60's. Now I have to research and remember their names. Seems to me Jimmy Stewart was in one and Kirk Douglas.

The Greatest Show on Earth - wasn't that Burt Lancaster (or was it Charlton Heston, or both?)

zoo.station- 01-07-2008

Yeah GG, I found one yesterday from 1956 with Burt Lancaster. Some love triangle one...

Gaffer'sGirl- 01-07-2008

 I decided to look it up. I don't know where I got Kirk Douglas from other than he was the same era. Greatest Show on Earth (1952)was Charlton Heston, Betty Hutton, Cornel Wilde and Jimmy Stewart. Trapeze (1956)had Burt Lancaster, Tony Curtis and Gina Lolabrigida. IMDB is good, it is! Sometimes.

It is for the general stuff, for looking up movies and actors it's fantastic; just so long as a certain link is ignored! I want to see them both, the Greatest Show on Earth especially, sounds better than Trapeze. Edited to add: I've been reading about the circus all day and it makes me sad that they are on their way out, the animal stuff going is definitely fair enough and I am for that, but the human performers in circuses are so talented and they do such a great job...it seems unfair to get rid of circuses when those people have been training all their lives to master these fantastic and amazing tricks, when these people live for the circus and love performing. Sure, get rid of the animal acts but there isn't any need to pass of all circuses as cruel to animals and to try and get them all closed, animals aren't an essential part to any circus so there isn't any need to turn people against them and not want to see them. Most circuses are over using animals any, I really don't want the circus idea to end. I love the performers and it seems like such a terrible thing to waste such talent.

I know this has nothing to do with movies but, I saw a Cirque Du Soleil Show last night on TV and it was SOOOO FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!! I couldn´t believe how talented this people are. About Ioan roles: I would like to see Ioan in something like Silence of the Lambs for example. I think it would be a good role for him, plus maybe get him some awards, hehehe!!

Most circuses are over using animals any, I really don't want the circus idea to end. I love the performers and it seems like such a terrible thing to waste such talent. I agree with you, Kaitlyn, that it's a pity that there are fewer and fewer circuses: it's such a waste of talent that they are closing down one after the other. However, I guess two points can be made. One is that I've met people who said that they lost interest in circuses when they started to get rid of animal acts, while they thought animals were as essential to any circus as the human performers. The other point is that I wonder why circuses are closing down: can it be because they don't attract the audiences that they used to attract? I also happened to see a show of the Cirque du Soleil: it was fantastic, but they brought circus to another, much higher level than traditional circuses.

zoo.station- 01-09-2008

Cirque du Soleil is incredible. I am completely in awe of all those performers, that kind of talent is inspiring. For me, running away to the circus isn't a joke, if I had half the talent I would. People like wire-walkers and trapeze artists are my heroes, I seriously adore them and find them so inspiring. I can't speak for other areas but I know that in regards to my area those two points you raise answer each other. The people I know personally are all against circuses for the fact that they have animal acts that are clearly cruelly taught. They choose to boycott circuses out of support for the animals. Circuses are going out of business in my opinion, for my area, because people have been fed this image of cruelty and pain to the animals involved and so the ones with animals are forced to close down because people are standing up for the animals; because the traditional ones live off money they earn in performances, if no one comes, they have no money. Therefore can't travel along, therefore are finished. The trouble here is, the human circuses we have with the fantastic wire-walkers, trapeze artists, acrobats and contortionists are very few. The others have animals, what happens to the talent when the animal ones are shut down? They don't have a huge range of circuses to fall back on without animals, there are one or two and those circuses can't take in a wave of new talent every time a traditional circus closes.
